Arsenal vs Tottenham, post-match thoughts: Time for changes, here’s my line-up
Those of you who read my blog will wonder why I didn’t post the regular positive/negative post. Well believe me, I’d rather not. Also, the reason why I’m posting the post-match thoughts straight after the match is that I won’t be available tomorrow.
Yesterday’s 4-4 draw against Spurs sums up the season pretty much nicely and sees all Arsenal fans asking – yet again – if this team can lift any silverware at the end of the season. Well, the only way, for us, to win something is to have Wenger open his eyes and make the changes we’ve all been waiting for. My perfect line-up? Here it comes.
Almunia
Eboue – Toure – Gallas – Clichy
Song
Nasri – Fabregas – Walcott
Adebayor(or RVP)
Vela
One, Sagna has been poor all season, Maybe he’s tired, maybe he’s injured, fact is that he’s not been the top-class defender of last season. Eboue is exceptional in that role, no matter what many think, so give him a chance. It’s with him that we reached the Champions League final!
Two, Denilson has to sit on the bench and Song is to go out there and do the Flamini. Since when Denilson plays in a more advanced position than Fabregas? That is what he’s been doing this season, including the Spurs match – is Cesc no longer the brain of this team? No way.
Three, Walcott is not a striker. He simply runs out of ideas when close or inside the penalty area. He should play in a more midfield position, feeding the strikers, the PURE strikers, not Van Persie, not Adebayor, but Vela. Until Eduardo comes back, Carlos is the only pure striker of this team, Emmanuel and Robin are support strikers, secondary strikers. Did you see how Adebayor reacted in the 80th minute of the match against Spurs when he was feeded with a cross? Have you ever seen a striker react like that, not knowing what to do? Come on, let’s get real please. Marcelo Salas was a champion in those occassions, he would have chested that down and slotted it in like a true striker.
We have problems, a lot of, but they can be fixed. We have to learn to win ugly, you simply can’t let slip away a 4-2 lead or a 4-3 lead in stoppage time. Again, had I only watched Arsenal and only Arsenal, I would have thought that at this stage the title race would be over as we would be something like -8 from the top but as things stand, the table is the only reason to have a smile on our face after two months from the start of the season.
In the Premiership, that is. The cups have been another story, at least for now. Speaking of which, where is Ramsey? Didn’t he show guts and confidence against Ferenbahce? Where is Vela? Isn’t a hat-trick enough to get some regular play? Shouldn’t these youngsters be rewarded for their efforts?
Anyway, that’s my perfect line-up. If you read this, post yours.
