It should have been Aston V…ela

Written by Chris on November 17, 2008 – 22:51

Many believe that when you fall off, you gotta get back up. For us, that’s really the only thing we can do. We can’t keep on crying on what happened last Saturday, we have to look forward, and hopefully, so will Arsene Wenger who has to take important decisions to save something from a season which is looking miserable.

No matter how much I try to understand what is the main reason why we lost last Saturday’s match, the conclusion is always the same: the exclusion of Carlos Vela from the starting eleven. The Mexican has been in amazing form this season whenever he was called into action and it was clear that against a solid and strong defense like Aston Villa’s, it wasn’t Bendtner strength that was needed up there, but the speed and creativity of Vela. There are many other changes which I feel Wenger is to make, but I’ll leave that for another post as right now, Carlitos’ help is urgent for the team.

I feel for him in the same way I would feel for a little boy who is being bullied and have candies taken away from him. Not only he scores and impresses in the League Cup but gets no first-team call, but when he does, he is sent out there during the final nightmare minutes as it was the case against Stoke and last Saturday against Villa.

Many praise Arsene Wenger for his intelligence and his genious, and the win over Wigan clearly shows that the genious is still there, but unfortunately we have to understand that he is as stubborn as a mule when it’s time to make changes. His motto is clearly that a winning side should not be changed, hence the reason why he started with the same eleven who defeated Manchester United. And I bet my right arm that if Vela plays against City and scores a hat-trick, he will be relegated back to the bench to make space for Van Persie for the away match against Chelsea.

As it is, I rate Vela as our best player at the moment, the one who can really show us the way out of this pathetic start to the season. But he’s not being taken in consideration and never will be this season, I’m afraid.

Unless he decides to leave.
