A thought on Tony Adams
As I was watching Portsmouth easing past A.C. Milan in a match in which they played some very, very nice football, I just couldn’t help thinking about something: there is only one man who would see Arsenal supporters keeping their cool if he replaces Arsene Wenger and that’s Tony Adams. Having played more than 650 matches for the Gunners and captained the side since the young age of 21, “Mr. Arsenal” would definitely help to keep the waters calm in case Wenger calls it a day.
Make no mistake, this is the first Portsmouth match under Tony which I saw, but A.C. Milan is no ride in the park and the way his side were getting rid of them before those fatal last minutes was pure class; the way they passed the ball and went from one side of the pitch to the other was so-much like the Arsenal we like. This post is not about Wenger’s staying or leaving today, far from that, but let’s face it, Wenger is not eternal, there will come the day when he will depart. Early days of course, for Tony, but one should definitely keep an eye on him.
On a different note, both Philippe Senderos and Mathieu Flamini started and finished the match for the Italian side. The Frenchman did show some improvements over past matches but Philippe looked out of position in both the goals conceded as he’s clearly yet to fit into the side.
