Chelsea vs Arsenal: Half-time report – 1-0

That we are our own worst enemies is no flash news. What maybe is, is the fact that we keep on being so week after week.
In a first half where we created very little, Chelsea had most of the possession and goal opportunities, yet they only managed to score through a Johan Djourou own goal. The North London squad is building most of their chances from the Nasri-Clichy wing with Bosingwa having the time of his life as the two Frenchman are failing to close him down properly.
In the 10th minute, Song is outpaced by Kalou who is blocked by Clichy in the penalty area, the Frenchman fails to clear properly but Anelka fails to take advantage and his effort is blocked into a corner. A minute later, Arsenal’s best chance of the half – from an Adebayor delivery, Gallas heads the ball towards Samir Nasri who chests the ball down and has his effort blocked by Cech. Unfortunately, William Gallas fails to make an impact from the block.
For the next fifteen minutes, it was all defending for the Arsenal. In the 16th minute, Alex Song gives the ball away, Chelsea are quick to take advantage but Anelka’s ambitious effort is wide. A minute later, Bosingwa eases past Nasri and then Clichy, goes for goal, but luckily, his effort is high, wide and handsome. Finally, five minutes later, a quick Chelsea move ends with a Bosingwa cross headed towards goal by Frank Lampard with Almunia easily blocking.
The suicide move of the weekend came in the 28th minute. Almunia comes out and blocks a Chelsea corner, quickly throws it out in the path of Nasri with Chelsea taking possession, promptly moving it to Bosingwa whose cross is diverted into our own net by Johan Djourou. Poor stuff.
Arsenal’s reaction was all down to Van Persie who battles his way into the penalty area, heads the ball twice before hitting a weak right-footed striker to which Cech has to go down and save into safety.
The half was not nice to see. We give the ball away too cheaply in midfield and when that doesn’t lead to conceded goals, lack of concentration does. Almunia had to ease the pressure there, and not throw the ball straight away in the path of Nasri, who incidentally, had no-one alongside him to help him in the counter attack. All-in-all, I believe that we should be happy that the score is only 1-0 to Chelsea as yet again, we see Van Persie and Adebayor teaming up together up front and confirming that out of 10, they are 0 compatible with each other.
At half time, Arsene Wenger opted to make no changes.
