Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is reported to have made an £8 million offer for sought-after Newcastle goalkeeper Shay Given. Given has attracted a lot of interest since his outstanding performance against Liverpool at the weekend which, despite the five goals that went past him, earned him the epithet of “world class” from Steven Gerrard.

In more than one occassion, Shay has confirmed he will be staying at Newcastle despite the number of rumours surrounding his future. Furthermore, I don’t think Wenger will replace Almunia, now also captain. Maybe he doesn’t offer the confidence a backline requires from a keeper but he’s Wenger’s #1 choice nonetheless and I don’t see that changing.
