“I just need to keep working until the manager decides that I merit a starting place”, Carlos Vela

Not just for our blog founder Chris, but for many, Carlos Vela is becoming more and more a favourite at the Emirates. After his brilliant Carling Cup displays, the Mexican is slowly starting to fit in Arsene Wenger’s first eleven, with the French coach full of praise for the 19-year old, who said:

Of course it’s very important that the manager says these things – it gives you confidence. But I’m still only 19, so I have to keep taking things on board. Hopefully, if I carry on learning, I’ll make it. The Premier League is teaching me a lot. Certainly, in my opinion, it is the best league in the world and definitely the quickest.

So to push on it’s simple – I just need to keep working, working, working until the manager decides that I merit a starting place.

Settling down in the side came natural for Carlos, but doing so in London was a little bit more … tricky! He confessed he was lost for three hours in London earlier this season but he’s doing fine now:

I’m alright now. I’ve got a GPS so there’s no chance of getting lost again! In the city as a whole I feel very much at ease – I have more friends now, I’ve seen a lot more things and I feel at home. My English is coming on nicely too. I can understand a lot but speaking is still more difficult!
