Wenger on the Wembley pitch and why he didn`t start with Song, Nasri and Arshavin

Written by Jeffrey on April 19, 2009 – 7:30

Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger was definitely not happy with the state of the pitch of the Wembley stadium, describing it as “laughable”. The Frenchman said:

You spend all that money on the stadium and still have no pitch. It is laughable. It’s not football. The quality of the pitch is a disaster.

I believe that when you do not play well some days you always regret (your decisions), I’m not sure if he (Song) could have stopped the ball in the air on the second goal. We are a team who has eight games in 24 days, and you cannot play the same players in every game.

On not using Nasri and Arshavin from the first minute he added:

We know they are dangerous on set-pieces and we are a bit short. Plus they have some tall boys who make it physical in midfield, and we needed a player like (Abou) Diaby to be capable of fighting against them.
