Arsenal vs Blackburn, 6-2: Full time thoughts, analysis and player ratings

Written by Chris on October 4, 2009 – 22:30

The Game

How to describe a game which was so close to perfection and indeed confirming last Tuesday’s performance just as I asked yesterday? I am the first to ask you people not to get carried away after a scintillating display and that’s why I wanted to wait for today to see whether Fabregas and co. really meant business after the Champions League game.

And boy, they do. I will expand in tomorrow’s day-after thoughts as always, for now, enjoy all six goals in video and the high ratings, available below.

Player Ratings

Mannone: 6,5 – At fault in Blackburn’s first goal but from then onwards, he was as solid as ever, catching or blocking everything Blackburn threw at him.

Gallas: 6,5 – There was some shaky moments at the back but I believe it’s normal when you’re in front and defending the lead. He’s enjoying a good season William, glad to see.

Vermaelen: 7,5 – Surprised by Robinson’s long kick in Blackburn’s first goal but recovered from that and hit another wonderful strike, coming at such a crucial moment of the game, denying Blackburn from parking the bus.

Clichy: 6,5 – Some worrying signs in the second half but all in all, a good performance from Gael, who is slowly gaining his confidence back.

Sagna: 6,5 – Provided that extra something needed up front when twice we were trailing and also solid at the back.

Diaby: 6 – I think this is the best we can get from the Frenchman. A lot of balls given away cheaply again I’m afraid. Having said that, when he missed that chance in the second half which in all honesty he should have buried, he showed what he can give to the side and that’s goals. He demonstrated it in the past that he can be an excellent finisher but seriously, he needs to improve his passing.

Song: 8,5 – A monster. Everywhere, in midfield, helping the back four, sometimes also surging forward. Top class.

Fabregas: 10 – This is why I said in this summer’s season review that he’s irreplaceable. There is no-one, no-one, who can replace him, he’s one of the best in the world.

Rosicky: 7 – Very involved in the first half and went close in a number of occasions.

Arshavin: 7,5 – Like Tomas, also very much involved and did amazingly well to keep his cool and give us the lead, meaning Blackburn had to come forward and leave gaps at the back.

Van Persie: 7,5 – Made no mistake in producing a fine finish to level the game in the first half, the third consecutive goal for the Dutch maestro.

(Subs)
Bendtner: 7 – Who said he was no good to score? Did incredibly well to cut from the left into the middle and unleash a wonderful strike.

Walcott: 7,5 – Couldn’t have asked for a better comeback and luckily for us, he was NOT called for International duty.

Ramsey: 6,5 – Made his presence felt in the dying minutes of the game.
