Arsene Wenger denies January signings, “Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey and Carlos Vela [are] ready”

Submitted by Jeffrey on October 7, 2009 – 4:00 17 Comments

Speculations about new signings in January’s transfer window were already published on Arsenal despite January being three months away. Manager Arsene Wenger, as always, had to rubbish such rumours by yet again declaring he believes in the youngsters who will play an important part during this season.

Speaking of “the Carling Cup kids”, the Frenchman told the News of the World:

We now have Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey and Carlos Vela ready. They are 17, 18 and 20 years old.

They should not have to switch clubs in order to be able to play. In that case, all the work we put into them would have been wasted.

Teenagers at Arsenal are given a sound training in football and an excellent social training.

They live with guest parents whom we have been monitoring and selecting for years.

Cesc Fabregas (now skipper) and Philippe Senderos lived with the same guest mother. She brought them to Champions League matches in her little Renault 5.

He is right, Ramsey, Wilshere and Vela are particularly interesting talents that we have. We all know wilshere is good from his emirates tournament heroics in bagging 2 motm awards. Ramsey has been impressive in almost in which he gets to play. Even though its only a few minutes, Ramsey still creates, and he is in the similar mold to Fabregas, natural successor to fabregas if fab decides to call time on his arsenal career.

Vela has been impressive at all. When he came on, he literally won the carling cup game against west brom.

Lets not forget about merida and traore.

Attacking wise, we are sufficient. Its the DM area as well as the CB area that we might still be lacking.

  • Chris says:

This is the same thing – more or less – he said last season when talking about the central midfield area and Song, Denilson and Diaby. It’s nice to hear but you have to wonder why he made an offer for Marouane Chamakh last summer then.

    • messi says:

becuse we need that aerial height which adebayor use to have and thats what were missing and to be honest van persie and eduardo may mor may not also get injured to so i think that will be good, but ive seen chamakh play against juventus in the champions league and to me he doesnt look like a hot striker but who am i to decide as arsene knows and always brings in the best for the team, after all he was voted best striker and top goal scorer of the french season last season. so thats a point

    • Herbert says:

      Chris,
Because we still need a strong target man…
Van Persie is not a natural centre forward…!
When he gets injured who is going to replace him? Bendtner?

  • arctic gunner says:

he was probably worried wether eduardo can overcome his injury issues or not and return to his best level. both physically and mentally. now that he has there is no need for another man warming the bench.

  • we are all no inpact of youth gunners but dont forget merinda he is talent player that score 2 against nigeria un 20 w.cup mean why
wenger should sing a worid class 2 players Pls dont disapoint us enter market on january tranfer windo to buy exprience player bcos injury we need striker.

  • Mike E says:

i would still like to see an experienced defensive midfielder bought in – especially as song will be strutting his stuff in the african nations cup and so will eboue.

    patrick? yes!

    • adam says:

      agree.

the club has a lot of options up front, but appears a wee dram thin at the back. a sharp, wise defensive-minded player who can unquestionably compete at the top level for another three years AND whose commitment is such that his imprint can be felt after he is gone strikes me as a prudent purchase.

dang, that sentence is a long one!

  • messi says:

i think someone like inler would’ve been incredible that guy is the man in italian league and since he is swiss he will fit nicely with djourou and senderos. but then again arsene knows also that matuidi is the man too as his been compared to pat. vieira, so anyone for a couple of weeks would do me fine, but ideally INLER IS THE MAN!

    • Comrade23 says:

I can’t see Inler coming in without his place in the side assured, and frankly it’d be foolish to choose him over Song. Agree that we could use someone for that role while Song is away at ANC, but I wouldn’t buy someone to take his place. No matter, since it’s unlikely that AW will buy much at all. The biggest thing is getting Rosicky signed up again, since he’s out of contract in January.

  • Yemi Babs says:

There will always be a nid for new signing in January window transfer although the squad is good but we should not 4get dat Arsenal still nid xperience & established D.M like P. Viera & also a very good striker. I think CHAMACK will be okay for that role.

  • Charlie says:

It is so refreshing to read a constructive blog. For too long it’s been nothing but complaints and fans haven’t been getting behind the team but i’ve bet on Arsenal since before the season started. I have full faith in this squad albeit one slight concern. There’s no natural replacement for Song as you all say. There’s an inbalance with too many attacking midfielders but none that you’d want to lose. It’s frustrating that the gap wasn’t filled before but maybe the squad is already strong enough. The new tactic seemed obvious well before it happened, gives Fabregas the freedom he needs. Thing is that changing tactics and finding the perfect player take time for a perfectionist like our main man.

  • Pal says:

Buy Viera back please – I think he still has something to offer!

  • Emperor Gooner says:

i have never doubted this team…i never even buy that fuss about the perfect DM thing..there’s only one thing i’ve always said and that is – we were very very unlucky to have the kind of injuries we were cursed with for such a long period..any and i mean any team without 2-3 key players can never win anything…now we have almost everyone back ..nasri almost there too….there’s no way we wont win a trophy this season..mark my words – we are supporting the best team in england at the moment
