Birmingham’s day-after thoughts: It won’t be long before we go top of the Premiership
According to Arsene Wenger, we could have easily scored more yesterday if in some occasions players opted to be less selfish and worked “collectively” as he put it.
I would also add the lack of concentration which could have cost us dearly, but overall, it was still a good performance out of which we take all three points and full advantage of the slips from the other top teams who either lost or drew.
We’ll soon be up there, leading the Premiership
If I analyse our upcoming fixtures, I see plenty of easy games, even the Spurs one and I’ve been saying this for a long time, that our next real test will be away at Chelsea and luck wants that it won’t be before November 29.
Meaning what? Well with Chelsea facing Manchester United and Bolton away from home and Manchester United facing Liverpool and of course Chelsea, I believe it won’t be long before we top the table and I firmly believe that we will be leaders of the Premiership when we go at Stamford Bridge.
Having said that, it would also be nice to see some rotation before that, so as to make sure the regulars reach next month at the top of their form. I mean, when you consider that Samir Nasri, Carlos Vela, Aaron Ramsey and Eduardo are not currently being utilised, I lick my lips at the idea of having all of them fit!
Did Diaby finally wake up?
That Abou needs no second invitation to score is a well-known fact and I was not surprised to see him bury it like that when he was presented with an opportunity to score. I was, however, surprised to see him track back in more than one occasion and win the ball when doing so.
Of course, Birmingham in not a top team but it’s a start. And, I believe Abou can indeed be the perfect partner for Alex Song, with the Cameroon International enjoying an amazing season so far. That is because the two of them bring strength, height and goals to the midfield so let’s just hope they can keep it up.
Looking Forward
AZ, away from home are next to make it three out of three and have one foot into the next round already. Theo Walcott is out of the clash, so maybe we’ll see some of Carlos Vela, although the Mexican only landed in London last Friday.
A preview of that game will be published tomorrow.
Until then, as always, take care.

i think this is the time for arsenal to win the premeiership, cause now we are more composed and desperate,we have all our players back and i think thats some of the reasons we can win it
We can win the League because in one sentence, we do not have ADEBAYOR He is now gone and taken with him his loud mouth and troubles. Good riddance.
However I am still worried that a mediocre team like Birmingham was able to give us so much trouble even with them only having 3 shots at goal. We looked shaky before and after their goal which did not sit well with some fans who sat by me at the match yesterday and I could understand their worry. We have now West Ham away to close the gap even further if we get a reult there and I SINCERELY HOPE WE DO AS THEY ARE LACKING IN CONFIDENCE AT THE MINUTE!! Go on ye REDS!!
Yes, I agree, but what is of comfort is the fact that WE let them back in the game and that had we kept our concentration after taking an early two goal lead, we would have really scored much more.
So yeah, as long as it’s because we lose concentration and not because our opponents boss us in midfield as it was happening this time last year, I won’t complain.
I’m glad to see Diaby’s performance improving.Diaby was pretty good yesterday not only offensively but also helping Arsenal’s defense.Diaby deserves more opportunities to show his talent but I still believe that Nasri is a better option.
I believe we can win d league if u consider that we are doing well against d smaller teams and our rival are having it difficult with them
We seem to winning games we would have lost last season but we still have stoke away, bolton away, burnley away, spurs away, aston villa away, liverpool away, chelsea away, wigan away, sunderland away and they will be tough games that may decide our season or say more where we stand.
stan collymore put a 100 quid bet that arsenal wont win anything this season yesterday in talk sport, i would love to prove wrong and remind him to pay he said to charity
It would be great to see Vela playing a full match, not just off the becnh, against AZ. He is in terrific form for Mexico, so let’s see what he can do for us. Anyway, AZ aren’t in great touch at the moment, and might be distracted by financial worries etc.
As for Diaby, he might have woken up, but how long until he goes to sleep again? Ramsay, like Vela, deserves a full game. Remember against Twente last year he played well.
I’m not sure we will be top of the table by the Chelski match, but it would be nice! If we aren’t, we won’t be too far off. A win this week at West ham will be crucial, because they are in all sorts of strife.
Good luck gunners.
Nasri’s more of an attacking player than diaby and probably wont replace him. hope diaby can keep his head on his shoulders. right now i seem a bit confused cos we have such good players that i can hardly pick a team. would love to see wenger use some of our players who havent played much for the AZ match.
What is so encouraging about this season is that all of the top teams seem to be dropping points or close to dropping them week after week while we really have had just the one close win (1-0 vs Fulham, but it as on the road) over a team lower than us. Our two losses came on the road to two top 4 teams (though in each case with a little more luck we would have had points). In our six wins we have a +19 goal differential with our closest wins being 1-0 and 3-1. That is what killed us the last two years, not taking maximum points in a higher percentage of games that we were the better squad. Yesterday’s win wasn’t spectacular like some this year, but still 3-1 is better than what Man U did vs Bolton at home. Man U has home wins of 1-0 over Birmingham, 2-1 over Bolton, tied Sunderland 2-2, 4-3 over Man City and 2-1 over us. They will continue to drop points on the road and at home. Liverpool appears to be falling quickly and really are just an injury away to their one of their two key players from really falling. Chelsea has had a number of close games and their inability to defend set pieces is going to come back to haunt them (like it has for us in the past). I continue to think Man City will implode at some point with Robinho looking to leave and Adebayor eventually pulling some crap.
I am not by any means saying we will win the league running away, but if you look at current form and what is ahead I feel we are in the best position as the first quarter of the season is nearing an end.
Spot on mate.
So far, we had to “big” games and we lost them both, yet we’re still virtually 2nd in the table. As ugly as it might be, there is indeed a possibility of going on and win the title despite not getting positive results against the other three of the top four, though from what we’ve seen against United, we’re good enough to beat the top ones as well.
u dont have 2 beat the top 4 to win the title luk at united and livpul last season. livpul had an excelent record against top 4 side but still didnt win the title cuz of the draws against hull fulham west ham everton and also a defeat against midlsbrogh etc united beat these smaller teams n won the title. so far we have shown the true spirit of champs against these teams particularly fulham away. luking at the fixtures we will defntly be at the top of the table sice pul chlsi utd n city have drpd points
