John Terry, “I think the title race is now down to three clubs: ourselves, United and Arsenal”

Submitted by Jeffrey on November 11, 2009 – 18:00 9 Comments

Chelsea captain John Terry believes Liverpool are not title contenders, as it’s now down to Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal to battle the Premiership out.

Speaking after his side’s narrow win over Manchester United at Stamford Bridge, the 28-year old said:

We’re not going to settle for just maintaining the five-point gap. We want to increase that lead. Being honest, I think the title race is now down to three clubs – ourselves, United and Arsenal.

Liverpool have slipped away a bit and it’s going to be difficult for them to get back in the frame the way the top three are playing. But Arsenal are definitely contenders.

They are looking good, playing free-flowing football and scoring lots of goals. It will be interesting to see how they cope if they pick up injuries and lose key players.

Terry is wrong on two counts ,one title fight is down to only two clubs Arsenal and Chelsea and two he expects us to fall down if our key players get injured, this term that wont be the case, rather we ‘ll have trouble giving all the quality players the playing time they desperately crave for. Whatever team we put up this season will never be devoid of quality. On the other hand it ‘ll be interesting to see what Chelsea ‘ll do if their key players get injured and during ACN

I agree. But chelsea dont have very difficult games during the acn period! But our season changing period will be end of jan beginning of feb where we play utd chavski and liverpool! I honestly think arsenal are going to win the title! People speak about experience but we have a team who has played together for a good few years now and agree with the fact that we have great quality in depth. Chelsea is an OLD team… Go gunners!

i think terry is more or less right. but it seems he hasn’t noticed that many of our key players already were or currently are injured!

chelsea are great, albeit aging, team at full strength. but it would be interesting to see how they perform if they had half the number of first teamers sidelined that arsenal has had during this campaign.

liverpool seems to have shown they don’t have that type of depth at all.

”It will be interesting to see how they cope if they pick up injuries and lose key players.” It seems almost as if he wishes that our key players get injured. As already commented, we have important players injured, but we also have quality players to make it up.

i thought this chap said at the beginning of the season that arsenal were not in contention?

Before the start of the season it was the media and football pundits forecasting our immediate downfall and not even making the top 4. Even Fergie was misguided enough to repeat the pundits (check here) http://www.thelondonpaper.com/thelondonpaper/sport/football/sir-alex-ferguson-believes-arsenal-have-no-money views.
It’s quite comical to now see the pundits backtracking faster than British troops from Dunkirk and, rival players beginning to talk about us as a threat. Even negative talk from rival teams and pundits is, in my opinion, proof that we are worrying them. I’ll begin to worry about Arsenal when these people stop mentioning us. Long may it continue.
