[Vote] With Robin ruled out for months, who should now play up front for Arsenal?

Submitted by Steve on November 15, 2009 – 11:30 27 Comments

My last poll was a very optimistic one as it was the one where I asked how many titles we can go on and win. This one, is a little bit less optimistic as it concerns the horrible injury suffered by Robin van Persie.

We have to look forward unfortunately, as we can’t let an injury ruin our season just like a couple of years ago when Eduardo suffered his against Birmingham.

So today’s question is relatively simple: Nicklas Bendtner, Carlos Vela and Eduardo are our remaining fit strikers. Who of these three should start up front?

The options are “many” and here I’m listing some of them:

Eduardo-Vela
These two clicked incredibly well last season in the F.A. Cup but of course, that was the only time they played together.

Bendtner-Vela
These two also played together, in the Carling Cup last season and did pretty well.

Bendtner-Eduardo
Not sure how often these two played alongside each other but it would mean having a strong figure together with a top-class finisher.

The Midfielders
Andrey, but also Tomas Rosicky, Theo Walcott and Samir Nasri, could be “promoted” to strikers as they are very good in front of goal.

Vote below and do leave a comment to explain your decision.

  • Tazz says:

Bendtner too is out for now. Vela will provide the pace and Eduardo the finish. Not to forget, Vela too is a top notch finisher. With Arsha coming from the left, I guess we should be just about fine till January. Then, we need to buy. Chamakh for one, and DM obviously.
    Get well soon Robin..

  • Chris says:

Interesting, but tough to answer, and this is because we have solutions even now that Robin is out although of course, no-one can replace the Dutch maestro.

  • Tomak says:

Bendtner is injured so in my opinion, we should play Arshavin – Eduardo – Rosicky now. Vela as a substitution and Walcott for right after injury.

  • bogdan says:

I can’t believe what a heavy loss…we are cursed…we will never have a full fit squad this year also…like last year…
Our main striker! it will be very very tough without him…he was also the set pieces man… :( (

Chiellini is a disgrace….he should have played another sport…he’s a criminal

  • GUNNER 4 EVA( frm INDIA) says:

Whatever be the talk, one thing is for certain that a 4-4-2 is now much more likely then a 4-3-3 formation which makes me worry that we will not score as many goals as we have been scoring lately.

  • Adam Smith says:

this is the 64000 $ question. Two weeks ago we had an abundance of options,if we are talking strikers. Now Bedntner and RVP out for 2 to 3 months respectively.

Eduardo is the natural replacement, but maybe AW will surprise us all, and change the 4-1-4-1 at least for the time being.Eduardo is still being nursed back carefully and can he withstand a full game on a regular basis.

Rosicky could play through the middle as a striker,a bit like he did at barnet, and Walcott and vela are just coming back from injury.

Maybe Merida will be in the squad, and to end on a high,Ramsey looks so gifted yesterday that i expect him to feature.I would go as far as to say that at 18 he looks a more exciting prospect than Walcott.

  • St. Louis Gooner says:

Eduardo can play in the middle, with Arshavin on the left, Rosisky or Nari on the right. Then Fabergas and Rosisky or Nasri in the center midfield. That would mean Vela and Ramsey are first off the bench. Then players can fill in as they get healthy. I hope this year we are deep enough to get through this. Last year, we weren’t.

  • tom says:

there are 2 problems with this poll – first, we play 4-3-3 now, so it’s not really about a strike partnership. also, bendtner has just had surgery on his groin so he’ll be out for a bit.
obviously, we need arshavin to shine even more now van persie’s out. for the other 2 forward positions we’ve got nasri, rosicky, vela, eduardo and walcott, ALL of which are just coming back from long term injuries. as long as 3 or so of the above are fit for each game we should be ok. wouldn’t be surprised to see the likes of sanchez watt get some premiership experience in december tho – this mightn’t be a bad thing. get well soon rvp!

    • Chris says:

Let’s also not forget what Arsene said not long ago:

“We have van Persie, Bendtner, Eduardo and Vela as strikers, because we count Walcott more as a midfielder, as a right-winger.

Of course Vela is in my plans, he can play as a winger as well. He can play wide left, wide right, he can play central, he gives you plenty of options.”

  • jamaican_gunner says:

knock, knock…….. here comes vela chance, hope he takes it and show what he is capable offf……. get well soon RVP…… gonna miss u for the chavski game but its life ive gottn use to injuries but its sad

  • jack says:

Its a blow, a big one but we still have options, id like to see Rosicky in the middle with Fab, front 3 arshavin-eduardo-nasri, and with vela, ramsy, eboue, theo and wilshere (when their back witch is soon) and even sanchez watt, who looks like great, im still confident, get well soon RVP.

  • Nando says:

This is the opportunity Vela was waiting for. Hopefully, Wenger will give him some game time in the Prem to show what he can do. However, he will probably have Vela playing out wide with Arshavin playing up front with Eduardo.

  • goona91 says:

i fink we shud still play a 4-3-3 with SONG holding, NASRI and FABREGAS just in front with ARSHAVIN on the left, ROSICKY on the right and EDUARDO up front. We can bring on WALCOTT as sub for any of the front 3 as he addz pace in final 3rd

  • King Kolo says:

What are you talking about? We don’t play two upfont?? Confused by your vote options mate, little out of date. As it is, Eduardo is the obvious replacement. I still think we could be lethal and in many ways could score more goals once this box striker hits his groove. And with Walcott and Bendtner to come im ok with the nightmare injury…

  • [...] morning, Steve, our new team member, published a poll in which he asked who shall start up front for us during Robin’s absence and I was surprised to see many not believing Nicklas Bendtner is up [...]

  • Cornelius M says:

Arhavin is NOT strong enough up front. Eduardo HAS to step up. VELA also would b perfect but he is just getting fit.
    EDUARDO its your time.

  • Craig86 says:

if we are going to buy a striker this january i would love it to be Mario Balotelli. He is a superb player. I know his attitude gets the better of him, but with arsene as his coach i think he could be unbelievably great. He if far better that chamakh is every facet of the game, and is 7-8 years younger. I know arsene is an admirer of him. Super mario at the emirates sounds like the best plan…if we look to buy someone. He will be well worth the extra money.

If we don’t buy, i think we will see eduardo up front alone, with arshavin on the left and rosicky/nasri on the right, with vela being a sub for both eduardo and arshavin. Ramsey will get an extended run in the middle.

  • mr_potato72 says:

    N. bendtner is a good player but i dont think he can be together with Eduardo. anyway lets AW made the decision

  • DaxGooner says:

RvP just told on dutch tv that he is out for 4 to 6 weeks with a chance that he will recover quicker due to a special treatment…

  • eze says:

    leave eduardo up there alone!!!

  • Geo says:

Vela’s, and Eduardo’s time to shine mate.
