“HAND OF HENRY”…LOL! Am not a fan of the Irish but I feel their pain.

  • ASNLthruNthru says:

Would rather seeTH14 at leading out his team than Keane any day, whatever the circumstances. No need for a replay,we had to accept Maradona’s handball, that’s football without video refs.

  • Fresh says:

Combine this with the disallowed goal that Ireland suffered in the first game………..! I wonder if there isn’t some match fixing. There’s no point me watching thses games from now on. Will France, Italy and Brazil all get dubious decisions go their way in next years World Cup? Watch this space

  • Billy says:

Northern Ireland is one of the member of the IFAB, the governing body that decides on the rules of football. Maybe, now they can help make the rules to be in sync with the 21st century.

  • Steve D. says:

I almost guarantee the media will describe this as a cheating ARSENAL goal, despite TH not having played for us for two years!!!! They’ll use any means to demean our club – you just see.

    • Adam Smith says:

      Steve d,

the tabloids have already slated Arsenal and wenger will be next for buying one of the best players we have ever witnessed play for us.The tabloids hate us,the french connection and it will be interesting to see Platini’s point of view.I guess he may be suspicous by his absence.it was france v ireland in case some forget.

      • Steve D. says:

I ran away down under 5 years ago to escape the bloody London traffic/weather/ etc, etc, so I haven’t seen the papers yet, but it’s just typical that they’d blame us. Oh and Chris, you’re right, only an idiot would accuse us, but isn’t that the usual standard of red-top editors?!?!?

  • His blessed wit crucial goals,we’ve seen him does that 4 arsenal, atleast the french players in our team can boost of world cup.hand of henry

  • Chris says:

He’s no longer an Arsenal player Steve, only a fool would accuse “us” for this.

Having said that, this is one of the most disgusting pictures in football I’ve ever seen. Not only he blocked the ball with his hand, but he celebrated as if he did some heroic action for France. Something very important was being decided yesterday so I may, just may, understand the action. But the celebration?

I hope they suspend him for the first games of the World Cup.

    If not all of them.

    • beatup says:

I disagree with suspension for something like this (and diving).
It is open to too much ambiguity.
There is also the issue that if this hand ball took place in a final, France would have won the game and any suspension to Henry would have been no justice at all.

      Video refs please FIFA.

Cricket and Rugby League caught onto this technology years ago. Why is Sepp so stubborn? Oh wait, thats right, he’s Sepp…

Personally I think the action itself is not so bad. The ball was going to hit his hand anyway and it was literaly a split second decision to direct the ball towards his foot moreso. Its a once off and these things happen in football.

      The celebration however, was distasteful.

  • Cameron says:

So much for luck of the Irish =P
I do suspect some sort of punishment will be put fourth. For such a crucial game I wouldn’t even object to a replay it is just so unfair. Oh well atleast it gives us something contrversial to discuss. I realy do feel for Ireland though so close again and they fought so hard only to be beaten by a tremendous breach of the rules.

I can understand if Henry got caught up in the heat of the moment, it was more a celebration of going to the world cup and not the goal but it is still disgusting. I say he just gave all the pundits rooting for video replay a huge boost. Things like this realy strengthen thier case.

  • messi says:

you know what all this slating henry is way out of order when steven gerarrd dived at athletico madrid to win them the game and getting through no one mentioned his name the english are the first to argue but when its them they don’t mention nothing about it you got people like gerarrd ronaldo all hypocrites saying they dont dive when they’re probably the most diving players in the premier league. As for yesterday was it handball yes but the ball touched henry, was it deliberate though NO WAY! it all happened within 3seconds high pressure, adrenaline, how do you people not know that henrys body movement wasnt an accident, this is a world cup qualifier so of course there will be crucial things happening but dont blame henry, blame the FA UEFA FIFFA all of them ediots why not bring in video technologoy because more refs in the pitch still cant do the job as it was proved in the uefa league a month ago. Im backing henry all the way not because im an arsenal fan but because there was no intention same with eduardos dive no intention and clear contact for henry which was accidental! SAY NO MORE!!!

  • hey!!…wat’s d hullabaloo about d golden goal?..afterall, he’s not d 1st person 2 score a goal wit d hand. is d hand not a Sister 2d Leg??…so wat d leg cannot do, d hand must help d brother out….it’s Igwe’s hand of God. Thierry Henry is a divine project in d football world. i love him more than my galfriend! Kudos!!! Henry, u’ve done it again 4 France!!!

  • Gooner says:

Few things I would like to clarify

    1) Henry’s first touch with his hand was instinctual and not intentional – however having touched it the first time he then proceeded to palm it into his path and that was intentional.
    2) Anelka should have had a penalty and Given sent off – Irish fans need to stop complaining about the ‘fairness’ of the result
    3) How is handling the ball any different from a defender who gets away with dragging a striker down as he is on goal. They are both forms of cheating, why is it that handling the ball is viewed so poorly?
