[Vote] Is next week’s game against Chelsea a must-win one for our title hopes?

Submitted by Steve on November 22, 2009 – 4:00 17 Comments

Arsenal’s unbeaten run came to an end with yet another away-from-the-Emirates defeat, this time at the hands of Sunderland. And next week, we face Chelsea, in a game which according to many we either win or we can wave goodbye to our title hopes since we would fall eleven points behind our rivals(eight if we win our game in hand).

Do you agree?

yes because then thats 11 points behind 1st place considering in january we play aston villa away, manchester united at home, chelsea away, liverpool at home and then plus if you combine that with injuries that will pop along again i know for a fact,

THEREFORE IN MY OWN OPINION NO IFS NO BUTS WIN OR WIN 3 POINTS OR 3 POINTS SIMPLE AS! COME ON YOU GUNNERS…KEEP THE FAITH!!!

  • Jack Staniforth says:

Arsenal is an incomplete unit at the moment and doesn`t have the consistent penitration required to generate confidence week after week. There is always a reason for under performing, Chelsea don`t seem to have this problem and even with injuries still get the results.
If the next generation of players are not yet ready to step up I`m afraid Wenger should be persuaded to strengthen the squad. We seem to have too many damned good players but no real super star to act as a catalyst. Maybe van Persie will become that star, I sincerely hope so. Forget the placenta stuff Robin and get back home, if it can be done in Serbia it can be done in England.Sadly, I can`t see us taking the points against Chelsea even at Emirates, hope I`m wrong.

Every home game is a must win. We just can’t afford to drop points at home this season.

chelsea is too strong….we will beat them ….but winning the title is a big ask…..sorry can’t be done…n i have stop believing that arsenal can win anything…simply bcoz other teams are way much better than us….miles ahead….not in talent but in professionalism….. sadly we will always be entertainers and not winners…

  • Andreas says:

No reason to ask that question !!!
The major thing is to win chelsea and win convisingly
I really believe 3-1 will be the score

  • Z KWT Gunner says:

God willing we will destroy them….. theyre a good team…. you have to beat them to be a good team…. to be champion. Arsenal is greater than Chelsea.

Mark my words…. Manchester is the team to watch out for. A team that can WIN when it plays BAD!

don’t understand why a fan would say certain things about the club he/she supports…we stick with the team in good times and bad times. positive criticism ain’t bad but common, lets not let the lads spirit down. I believe we’l do well against chelsea( may be a draw) because the boys know what’s at stake..and also there’s no guarantee that chelsea will win all the remaining games, especially when they loose essien and drogba considering the input of these two this season..win or loose, its a win..too early to bow our heads.we fight to the finish. TO THE ONLY CLUB IN LONDON! ONE CUP! ONE ARSENAL!!!

Z KWT Gunner, the system deleted two of your ALL-CAPS messages, please don’t do that in the future if you want your messages to stand.

  • MUINDE A K says:

We have all seen what can happen after wasting clearcut chances against your opponents and if the opponent is a small team where you are supposed to collect maximum points to remain in contention for the title league trophy. Now A.W. and his boys will have to up thier game as they know what is expected of them and they should be very ptofessional in their approach to their quest for trophies this season .As I have continually said we need another strong tall central defender like Hangeland and a backup DM to support Cesc and Song in our midfield and this is non other than Blaise Matuidi from St.Ettiene .Come on A.W. you have the resources at your disposal just do the most logical thing for your team and the trophies will be yours to lose.Yesterday-22-11-2009 we lost a game that we ought not to have lost and this is due to naivity in our approach to most of our away matches and as well our starting lineup was poor in quality coz if Vela,Arshavin and Walcott had started that match ,I believe that the result would have been different .This is not the time to gamble with our team by playing the likes of Ramsy from the beginning of the match ,we know that he is developing nicely but lets not forget that we very many things at stake this season and we need TROPHIES in our shelves.

  • Z KWT Gunner says:

    No ProblemO

  • Chris says:

We played Chelsea on November 30 last year, one day early this season. We were ten points from the top back then, with no games in hand.

    And we won.

I’m afraid Sunday’s game will indeed be make or break as Lee said as starting December with 11 points from the top is a lot.

  • Ian Lam says:

I luv the Gunners, eversince that 1971 team of Charlie George, Frank McLintock, George Graham, George Armstrong…but sadly, this present team just isn’t good enough compared to the likes of Chelsea & Man U…we can play great entertaining football but we can also play like schoolboys….we need a Tony Adams, Thierry Henry, Dennis Berkamp, Robert Pires and most definitely Vierra, otherwise another sad empty-handed season, and worst, the exodus of Fabregas, Van Persie at the end of it to rub salt onto the wound….

  • MC gunner says:

11 points would be way to far. Since Man u and Chelsea are unlikely to drop many points we must win to remain in contention plus a loss could see the tott climb above us which is unacceptable. Any ideas on who should lead the line on Tuesday day night and on Sunday ???

    • dada28 says:

for the moment I don’t think we need someone to lead the line, what I do think is that we need a strong line where it’s hard to hold on to one particular player. considering the kind of game chelsea are good at playing it’s hard to come at them with a leading striker more so now we have no physical presence…I’d suggest we do with quick feet and skill, in that way they’l be vulnerable to conceeding freekicks or spot kicks looking at their back 4 and essien. I’d go with eduardo, vela, arshavin, walcott, nasri(he ain’t at his best now) all cutting into the 18 yard box…my thoughts!

  • pdgarsenal says:

    baby…..we will do it…………………………………………..for sure

  • pdgarsenal says:

lets see if we can do what liverpool and manchester united have failed to do this season, that is beat chelsea
