Arsenal reveal Robin van Persie will be out for four-five months
Arsenal will be without the services of striker Robin van Persie for four to five months. It was initially thought that the Dutchman, who suffered the injury when playing for the Dutch National side, was going to be ruled out for only a month but this morning, the club’s official website published the following club statement:
Robin Van Persie returned to Arsenal on November 22nd following an ankle injury sustained whilst on international duty with Holland. The injury was expected to keep him out of action for between four and six weeks.
Upon his return, the Arsenal medical team conducted a thorough review of his scans, his early injury management and the treatment he had received. Having scrutinised these in detail and assessed the response of his ankle, the Club’s medical team concluded that further investigation and opinion was required.
Advice was sought from the leading ankle specialist Mr Niek van Dijk, who confirmed that more extensive damage had been suffered than was first diagnosed. In order to repair his ankle, Robin will undergo surgery next week in Amsterdam to reconstruct the ligaments. The Club’s medical team anticipate that a full recovery will take between four and five months.
Eduardo and Carlos Vela were both used to replace the 26-year old by manager Arsene Wenger who needs to decide who to start tomorrow, against Chelsea.

Goodbye Rvp
What a sad way to start the day and the weekend leading to the Chelsea clash.
I confirm what I said last time, I am deeply sorry for the man, he didn’t deserve this.
Its very sad, but now I can very much see Wenger going for Chamakh in January
make that 5 years without a trophy damn it how unlucky can a team get
Nightmare. I wish him well but can’t help feel that with his injury goes the Gunners chances of silverware this season.
It is a pity rvp has injury .I wish him quick recovery,it is now time to buy chamakh
Oh my GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!five months!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.this is incredible.why do we suffer all seasons with unending injuries?last time it was eduardo when he was on top ov his form now its the dutchman who has been fighting for the golden boot.may our team survives the 4th place this season.good luck gooners but we need to play for our team otherwise………………………
shocking news…
( hope he will play in april and may and not miss the whole season…
BE STRONG ROBIN !
WELL HERE WE ARE AGAIN!!!
This makes me think at the season when Henry got injured an Wenger put is faith on the newly Van Persie(not ready at the time) and we end up with Pires up front…!!
The fact is we are (again) going to talk about the “famous” transfer period…
We do not have a world class striker (the closest we have is Van Persie); Edouardo is not good enough to support a team (and I have not seen is potential yet) and forget about Bendtner (he is totally rubbish despite a few improvements).
Van Persie is SO CRUCIAL.
So what are the options? Well, none really except finding the rare pearl in January…
WE NEED NOW a strong striker up front, forget about world class there is none out there cheap (the Arsenal way of doing business) and all of them are playing in their club.
There is no way and I stress,NO WAY,we will win any trophies with this squad (without one of their best element)… Let’s not forget that we are also loosing Song in january (the best player of the team with Fabregas) and I still don’t know how Wenger is going to cope with that…!!!
Even if we are optimistic, hard core Arsenal fans, die hard Arsenal fans, the reality is on the pitch and it won’t work, not even in heaven football planet…
January should be set for a Striker (I would say Chamakh, but unlikely… may be Kessling from Bayer leverkusen), a defensive mid (please don’t tell me Denilson can fill the gap,it is impossible and not probable)….
I would also add a goal Keeper because it is a shame that a massive club like Arsenal still does not have a world class keeper (if Alumnia was that good it would have challenged for a spot in the Spanish national squad!!!),but I guess we can wait for that (I would buy Lloris, the France goal keeper)…
Gallas is still uncertain,we have the same back 2 since the beginning of the season! Can you make a all season with the same 2 players? What about the rotation? we have so many games,it is impossible!!!
I did say that we will have troubles at Sunderland (we lost, figured!!!) and now we are facing Chelsea (on fire at the moment)! Unless we show more heart and work ethic we will loose the game…
And Wenger stop telling us or talking about how strong your squad is because it is not ,not enough.
once again it’s getting towards the period when injuries play a big part in the race for the premiership.i (and many others on this forum) have repeatedly warned of the shortage of quality players on the bench.call me pessimistic,i agree and it’s wth good reason.we all saw this coming except Wenger.
Chris,i have been away for some time now but as usual have beeen following the club keenly.what do you think about our chances now?i warned you before the season started about the cost of not having a good bench.i warned about injuries but if i remember correctly, you felt we had enough in reserve.please don’t go talking about bad luck.all good coaches prepare for that.we have a great coach who has just stubbornly refused to to see reason.let’s hope for the best.
hey dudes, come on let’s give a chance to vela, eduardo, bendtner and maybe walcott as strikers, they need some games to be world class, this is their chance to shine
I agree.
All this silly stuff about immediately saying that we need to sign someone has to stop.
Carlos Vela is good, Wenger confirmed Theo Walcott will play as striker and we also have Nicklas.
I agree, though Bendtner suck, and he is not worthy to play inte the Gunners uniform!
Phillydawg back barkin’ at ya’ll again for the second day in a row.
It strains the brain that, between the Dutch national team physios and Arsensal’s medical department, they’re only finding out now the full extent of RvP’s injury. That kind of quackery is inexcusable and constitutes malpractice on everyone’s part.
Bordeaux will now jack up the price for Chamakh, and Wenger’s parsimony is well known . He won’t give in to extortion. Instead, expect Wenger to manufacture goals from midfield through more off the ball man movement and tread water until Bendtner’s return in a few weeks time. Bendnter’s always fancied himself a central striker and now he’ll get a run to make his case.
RvP’s absense, though, will mean Arsenal can’t continue outscoring opponents and will increase pressure on the Arsenal defense. The defense is thin, and both Vermaelen and Gallas will now need cover, all the more since it’s increasingly likely Gallas will leave at the end of the season. With Almunia’s adventures in goal, Arsenal will need an iron man in defense or additional defensive midfielder, particularly during Song’s African Cup campaign. The defesne will need cover. Once Kroenke divests himself of his 40% ownership shares in the NFL’s St. Louis Rams, estimated at approx. $300-350 million USD, between this liquidity and Wenger’s shrewd eye for talent, expect 2 defensive purchases during the transfer window.
As for the Chelsea match, expect a monster game a la Liverpool from Arshavin. He’s angry about Russia being eliminated from WM 2010, he’ll be facing in national team mate, Zhirkov, with a point to prove, and he’s due for another big time game. Expect him to be a demon fully bust loose with a chip on his shoulder.
Over and out!!
This is really bad. ;-( I guess Arshavin was right, we need 2 expensive players. I still hope that we win the title this year. I feel like we have what we need. It is so sad about Robin, damn!
I red some of the articles and I can believe some people still think that Vela can play as a lone striker!!! That’s just silly…(sis Standard de Liege, we did not see him during the all game) and it will be unfair to the boy as he has so much quality… He is an offensive mid (that’s his position for Mexico and when he was at Osasuna on loan)…
Bendtner is not good enough and we all know that (let stop lying to ourselves)…!!
Let’s not forget that Song(basically our best player with Fabregas) will be gone in January! Who replaces him???
So what else?
Let me answer that,NOTHING!!
I am a bit upset with some of our fans who do not want to see the truth and keep saying that we will be fine… NO WE WILL NOT, a big club, if it wants to be or stay a big club sees the faults and try to fix them! Wenger always declared that his squad is strong enough and we all,and I mean ALL OF US,know that it is a fairy tale…
How can you compete with an average goal keeper, no world class target man, a back 2 who will eventually collapse because there is no back up(and I don’t see gallas and Vermy play 65 games, that is too much) and a bench where the average age is around 18-19 years !!!
WAKE UP PEOPLE !!!
Anyway tomorrow is a massive test and I don’t see us passing it…
My heart wants us to win (100%) but my logic is surpassing it…
If not now, when should Vela be given the chance to prove himself? He’s been patiently waiting for his chance to come, and now that he has it you want to take it away by signing another striker. In the champions league match, he was creating a lot of room for his teammates and many of them had their chances at goal. He was open on a number of occasion, but no one passed the ball to him, and when they did, they over missed him with inaccurate passes.
Besides, Arsenal don’t even play with a true lone striker because they are always moving and interchanging positions. With this type of movement, the goals don’t necessarily need to come from the striker position, but I’m sure that with a couple of games Eduardo or Vela will become sharper in front of goal. Lastly, people seem to be forgetting that players need time to adapt after changing to a different league so any signing that is made upfront will most likely not provide with the team with the impact some of you think it needs.
I agree about your comment needing a goal keeper though. Almunia is far from being world class.
Good oppurtunity to give Eduardo, Bendtner and Vela more game time. We are still very capable of winning the title. I do however believe we may need to change the system around a little bit. DO NOT forget the improvement Denilson & Song achieved with a long injury forced run in the side. That sort of improvment to Vela, Bendtner or even Eduardo would create a world class striker.
It is easy to be pesimistic but there is going to be a very determined, angry arsenal with something to prove going out onto that pitch tonight. If we can defeat Chelsea without RVP which we can, no one can stop us and that league tittle is ours.
If it goes horribly wrong we have the transfer window coming up soon anyway =P
