Arsene Wenger’s second injury update on William Gallas and Andrey Arshavin

Submitted by Jeffrey on November 28, 2009 – 4:00 10 Comments

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger provided a second injury bulletin on his players ahead of the crucial game at home against Chelsea.

Speaking of William Gallas, Wenger said the former captain’s eye is very swollen and may prevent him from facing his old club but fortunately, Russian Andrey Arshavin is sure to start.

The Frenchman said:

There is a big question mark about him at the moment. I cannot say that William Gallas will play, unfortunately. The ankle should be alright but the eye is still very, very, very swollen.

He wears contact lenses and at the moment he would not get them in. We hope on Sunday it will be better. He is not comfortable but I am optimistic because we still have three days.

Arshavin was shocked but he is okay.

On the long-term injured ones, the Frenchman added:

Apart from Gibbs no-one is out or in from Tuesday. Everybody else should be normally available.

Diaby and Bendtner will be the first to come back. They will be out for the same time now. I think it will take another two weeks for both of them to be back in full training.

I wanted Gallas to play against his former team mates as how ashley cole is going to do it.Let God him gallas for quick recovery because his important for this game and he can read it properly for arsenal to win. However still arsenal has potential to win it 90%.

I dont know what you people are worrying about,Gallas will be fit for that game,My only concern is Arshavin’s form.If it were up to me i would start with Nasri and Rosicky out wide and still mantain Vela as the centre forward.I think we should be okay now that both Song and Denilson are back.I hope people can now appreciate the value of Denilson after Diaby’s poor showings. One more person i am happy to see playing is Traore.Like i have always mantained i rate him higher than gibbs.Starting line up Almunia,Sagna,Gallas,Vermaelen,Traore,Denilson,Song,Fabregas,Nasri,Rosicky,Vela.

Gallas not being unavailable is a major handicap. But we have to cope with these things.. for gods sake we are a big club and am sure in a big game like tomorrows whoever partners verminator will step it up.. Song will play a pivotal role in our way to victory tomorrow.. he will be the one countering the ominous tip of the diamond.. with joe cole stifled we will be able to control from the midfield as usual.. Arshavin will fire tomorrow despite his world cup disappointment.. He is our team’s “big game” player.. I intend to see a coupla goals from the pint sized nuke.. I just hope Essien has an off day tommorow.. It’ll be shrewd to play Rosicky in the midfield alongside Cesc and song.. In case Essien manages to stifle Cesc we will still have another creator in Rosicky.. eduardo will lead the line tomorrow.. there is no doubt about that.. He has a fabulous rep against JT and we’ll need his able marksmanship.. We need Traore and not Silvestre in the Lb position if we are to fully exploit their weakness in the RB position.. A few explosive runs from him and you never know.. Nasri will play on the right alongside Eduardo.. His credentials as a finisher is highly encouraging.. Just hope the Drog doesnt test our makeshift defence too much.. Possesion in the midfield will be the key.. The forwards have to linkup with cescand Tomas if we are to keep the ball.. If Arsenal turns on the style then not even the snobbish Chavs can hold a candle to them.. Predicted scoreline 2-1..

Would rather see Eboue at RB and Sagna at LB since both are capable in these positions.Gallas will play with strapped eye if necessary
Vela to start,Eddy to outwit Terriballs with 2 in last ten minutes.

  • jimmyboy says:

Gallas is fine, was with him last night shooting pool. Just want chelsea to have a taste of their deceitful medicineI(drogba, cole, lampard not playing). Think i’ll go for Eboue at left back over Traore, defensively i believe they are at par but Eboue contributes more offensively.

  • Sammy Gee says:

OH God, HELP the GUNNERS! I strongly believe in our team and know that whoever FW decides to use will still do very well and come out wit our 3 points. I will love arsenal FOREVER!
    TODAY IS MY BIRTHDAY!

  • mutabazi eric says:

What ca we do if William is not on the squad!God protect the Gunners like you have done on the first leg of PL last season when Nasri saved the club!
A message to Professor is to by Chamack in January transfer market, please bring him to Emirates to take over RVP absence.

  • Vikithegooner says:

GoonerB i dont think wenger will play vela ros7 and nasri up front because we will lack strength to smash against the Chelsea defence so edu..will play up front instead of any one of the three

  • Mike LA says:

I hope we score quick with 2 or 3 goals. Cause it feels like everytime we score first, Chelsea comes back around the 70th minute and either gets a draw or wins it.
    Team:
Almunia, sagna, vman, gallas, traore, song, denilson, cesc, nasri, arshavin, eduardo
bench: mannone, rosicky, vela, eboue, silvestre, diaby
