[Vote] What was the REAL reason why we were hammered by Chelsea?
Losing was on my cards. Losing by a three-goal margin, no.
Arsenal’s first home defeat of the season couldn’t have been any worse, yet it’s not easy to understand what really went wrong out there. The possible reasons, in my opinion, are:
1. Missing key players
No way we could win with Robin van Persie, Nicklas Bendtner and Gael Clichy out injured.
2. The referee
Andrey Arshavin’s goal should have stood, Carlos Vela should have been given a penalty and Chelsea players were allowed to foul without getting any yellows.
3. Wenger
He picked the wrong formation and made the wrong substitutions.
4. We were unlucky
What are the odds that we concede two goals where the ball ends in exactly the same position, top right corner?
5. Chelsea are better
Even with all players fit, we would have still lost the game as Carlo Ancelotti’s side have more depth and better players.
Vote below and do leave a comment to explain your decision.

This team reminds me of the “Brazillian team of the 1980’s” no genuine striker
great midfield options such as zico socrates falcao naive at back we have all the attributes of that side and no signs that we will win something this year .We have lost to Manchester United Manchester City and Chelsea playing similiarly . We may again drop points against Liverpool.
We need a Rooney A Torres A Drogba
at front efficient strikers who bully defenders i doubt if we have anyone like including Rvp
we were at our best when we had ADEBAYOR(i hate him though) EDUARDO and flamster in the middle yesterday there was no one in the middle to conect to our crosses.
SIGN CARLTON COLE or make it 6 7 8 9 years without a trophy
Excellent observation. We should sign Carlton Cole immediately. We must replace out bullsheet goalkeeper. Denilson, Walcott, Vela, Traore can never ever become effective footballers. We are having bunch of injury prone footballers. We need rough and tough footballers like Essien, Viera, Yaya Toure. AW can not read the writing on the wall. He is extremely obstinate person and should be told categorically that Arsenal is a big club having fan following throughout the world; so he has to buy 3-4 world class footballers otherwise let him be the manager of Junior Team. We want trophy. We can not wait anymore.
bring back viera…simple is that…yestday it was boys vs men…and we got pushed around like a bunch of kids….no leader on the pitch…the defence has been the same old shit for the past 4 years….and yet wenger persists with gallas and sagna…sagna for me is goin down hill…he cant bloody cross…i would always prefer eboue cos he quicker, more attack minded and is a damn good crosser….accordin to me gallas just switches off sumtimes and thats why i suppose djorou or senderos would do a better job…cant blame eduardo hes got no support upfront…its high time wenger changes the formation and goes back to 4-4-2…at least we wer scorin goals wid that formation…if wengers tryin to ape barca then hes nuts cos barca have a bunch of exprienced top draw footballers and not kids…its like makin a kid do a mans job…nwayz if wenger brings viera back then theres a leader on that pitch….for christ sake wenger foget ur stubborn policies and bring viera back…we need him now more than ever and change the damn formation for christ sakes wenger…wer goin nowhere wid dat formation…up the gunners
.i agree with u on the fact clearly we shud play 442 i dont see how nobody realises this?we played 2 experiment formations that clearly have failed. 451 ,433.he ruined last season with 451 ,i just hope he changes the 433 before he ruins this season too . im sick of watching these formation fail so miserably. but also i think if any one can do it in those bad formations arsenal can
According to yestardays game, chelsea was compiting for the leguae with serious stricks aiming to score, while arsenal was in training. Arsenal players can only enterain not aiming to win the game. See how drogba is always serious looking for goals which is not acase at arsenal. I hope wenger should now a void to say this is carling cup for the young. Let him now wake up and make sure agame is agame and chose ateam which bring trophy this season otherwise the new shareholder will not stand in for that.
Why on earth did he replace song!Rem the mancity game!
YES! I was in shock when Song went of, the best player on the field!!! Denilson should have left, he didnt do anything right. Song was the leader and whenever he had the ball, I felt confidence. Terrible substitution!!!
And for the subject of this article, RvP would have made alot of difference in this game, but we didnt miss Bendtner nor Clichy. Traore did a remarkable job defensivly!
As the transfer window is coming up, I would like to see RvPs dutch compadre Babel joining us. That would be a very good signing. And realistic as he is clearly leaving Liverpool. Perfect for Arsenal!
Anyone agree?
Hi ARSENE. You are a wonderful coach! You however need to do something special if you are to retain your goodwill of transforming ARSENAL. Get serious and spend on attcaking players who can make a difference when it realy matters. YOU NEED THOSE WHO ARE REALLY MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY STRONG. You cant have a winning side without such kind of players who can make a claear difference.
2-0 down at half-time, there really is no need to keep a defensive midfielder on, especially when Chelsea were not a threat through the middle or in the midfield. My only assumption is that either song had an injury or replacing a defensive midfielder with a pacy attacker was one of the only options left.
Arsenal lacked penetration and Walcott could provide that. Again, 2-0 down and no threat in the middle of the park, there is no need for a defensive midfielder. It is true that Song’s strength would of been a benefit, but if you watch the game again, Arsenal werent getting out-muscled in the midfield. The problem was penetrating Chelsea’s solid defence.
Perhaps it was a gamble. But taking Song off at half time didnt weaken us, as Chelsea did absolutely nothing in the second half.
going to have to disagree with that, song was the only person on the the red and white side with presence other than the verminator. having diaby would have definitely been the best option on the day.
Chelsea`s game plan worked and they were generously lucky with the result and i agree they overpowered Arsenal.
Perhaps,Arsenal should procure Yaya Toure`s services, after all he can play as a defensive midfielder and play at the Central back too(Saw him play 90minutes there very well against Chelsea) And still get Chamack who is gonna be for free newayz. He is very fast, tall, poaches well (even in the air)and can threaten any team`s defense. He is a great value Arsenal should not miss even though he cannot play this season`s Champions league with us.Patience!.Keep your head up gunners.
agree wif u
The only Arsenal player that could hypothetically make the Chelsea squad at the moment, would be Cesc Fabregas.
I believe that in every other position on the pitch, they have far better, stronger, classier players.
we need finsher, clinical striker or physically tough striker.whats wrong with eduardo?tell me people!
I just cant recall the last time an Arsenal defeat felt that painful. Not even the 1-4 last season because our season was already in the bins.
Losing such an important game with such a margin especially when we’re struggling to prove our title winning credentials was the last thing we needed. We need a consistent striker, some1 who can kill a game in the blink of an eye. I dont think we should blame the ref for this one, it was all down to us and our teams inability to find a way past Chelsea’s back 4
men that was painful to watch wenger needs to relise that he aint no effin miricle worker that he can make players with little power and or quality into superstars that can dominate chelsea bottom line WE NEED A STRONG FAST GOOD IN THE AIR STRIKER IN JANUARY.
we need a Vieira play. Some one who will go out and hurt the other team. someone not afraid of anyone and can take and give hard hit. we need a bad ass even a Parlour.
Song is good, but he is too nice, and will not go out to cause a world of pain for the other team. All of Wengers teams have had player like this when Arsenal won leagues and cups.
This team is 2 nice
Phillydawg here with some post mortem and morbidity comments:
The Chelsea game in the rain washed away Arsenal’s slick veneer and left the team’s warts glaring in the light of day.
1) As a team Arsenal simply are too small. The successful, ‘big’ European clubs, every one of them, have at least one mountain of a man in defensive. During Arsenal’s glory days, Wenger had tall, physical players, indeed they were crucial to Wenger’s early success. Good as Gallas and Vermaelen are, they’re slight build betrays them against bigger, physical opponents. It was sad to see Arsenal players, Fabregas included, literally bouncing off of Chelsea players. A tall man himself, clearly Wenger must know his team is the size of race horse jockeys. It seems strange he hasn’t by now addressed the team’s and positions’ size deficiency and absence of brawn. Ideally the back five should be no shorter the Alex Song at 6ft1in.
2) The Midfield is overcrowded at the expense of the defense. There simply are too many talented and, at the risk of repeating myself, undersized midfielders/wingers. The result is not enough playing time for too many midfielders as opposed to too much playing time for too few and again too small players. Team cover is too thin and team balance thus out of kilter. Nothing was more revealing than Arsenal’s puny response to Chelsea’s team muscle. With Diaby and Song and Denilson certainly Arsenal’s midfield becomes taller and more muscular.
3) Obviously Fabregas and Arshavin are untouchable. But the Nasri-Rosisky-Eduardo-Vela -Walcott congestion at the wingerstriker position is more of the undersized same. Clearly Eduardo nor Rosisky are not yet fully recovered and seem to lack a second gear of speed. In particular Eduardo look like he was running in sand. Walcott is beginning to appear injury prone and brittle-boned. Perhaps, with all his blazing speed, he may be better suited racing Usain Bolt than playing football. RvP and Bendtner, or not, Arsenal need an power striker. To use a basketball term, a ‘power forward.’ Henry was such a player. Rooney, Drogba, Anelka. Players with an irrepressible force field and drive forward, the ability to take charge and to force defenses back on their heels, keep them there and intimidate defenses. Tall, physical, target men like the Bundesliga’s Dzeko and Grafitte or Kiessling.
4) None of this can be had on the cheap now that their needs are known. Arsenal, if they want to keep on running with the big dogs will have no hope of advancing in Europe when they will again have to play Chelsea, at the latest in the CL finals, and will now have to pay for not having paid earlier. Arsenal don’t need an American or Uzbeki sugardaddy to fund player purchases. They have plenty left over from the Adebayor and Toure sales plus money never spent in previous years. Moreover, there is no sum unreasonable to board would deny Wenger if he insisted.
No, the Chelsea game was Judgment Day. The day football found Arsenal still lacking. The day Wenger’s judgment was revealed as flawed, and the day Wenger must now decide on how to make things right.
Good luck, Arsene.
A bit dramatic.
Wat arsenal realy needs nw is a replacement for sagna, maybe eboue.the likes of chalton cole or reo coker upfron and possibly a better goal keeper.
IM STILL SAYING THIS GUY DIDN’T REPLACE THIERRY & VIERA – WENGER SHOULD BUY André-Pierre Gignac & M.DIARRA {MADRID}. WE COULDN’T MATCH CHELSEA AT THE EMIRATES. ARSENAL ARE MAJOR UNDER-ACHEIVERS!!!!!!!!
The lack of a class striker is hurting Arsenal. Their midfield is great and functioning well, in fact there are too many attacking midfielders. Arsene is simply covering his butt with the silly comments about Drogba “not getting involved enough”.I would take a 2 goal a game bludger any day!
The truth is Eduardo, Bendtner and co. do not lack experience…. they lack the skill. Drogba, Torres and co get goals regularly because they have ability. If Vela has the skill…for goodness sake play him!
Arsenal need a couple of special players (maybe 3). These players have to possess the following qualities: speed, technical ability, have won silverware and used to it, power/physical presence.
Denilson was a rubber band and Chelsea were a brick wall – he was just overpowered in the midfield, likewise Traore.
Arsenal is without a doubt technically superior but when you get shoved off the ball easily and lose possession you cannot build a rhythm. We need more Vieiras and Ray Parlours. Both of these men bossed a game and both could shoot, pass, dribble and fight. I’m sure the team is giving 110% most of the time but the game is a contact sport and when you’re opponent has a good 30 pounds on you then you’re fighting a losing battle.
We need winners, mentally tough players who know how to win on bad days, this is what Chelsea and Man Utd have – players who are used to winning. Who on the current Arsenal squad has played a pivotal role in any winning team and had a leadership role in it? No one.
Gallas was never a leader a Chelsea and Cesc may have won a Euro but he was not Spanish captain, nor was he Spain’s best player for the tournament. We have alot of young players who just don’t know how to be pragmatic when it comes to crunch time. Wenger needs to go spend some money and find those special players who can rally the troops when they’re down.
I believe we were unlucky for that goal not to count and the penalty not awarded but sincerely our strickers were not a treat to their defence we truly need a bully sticker i doubt if rvp would have turn the score line if he was available though he might score but not up to 3goals.Also i don’t want to agree that some challenges were as bad as people think because it was a physical game.Arsene needs to buy a dangerous stricker.
Their penalty claim was more valid than ours, generally the ref did well. DD was correct, we’ve built ourselves a dilemma. A Kroenke takeover would encumber the club with so much debt we’d likely be worse off with a new manager, nice job board.
Florent Malouda looked particularly pleased during his short spell on the pitch, he well knows why, we are pretenders. The weaknesses of the current side have long been documented but why no changes.
We have lost of second strikers but no leader up front.
We largely won the battle in the middle of the park.
Chelsea gutted us through the wings.
It’s been the story all season and often occurs when our forwards show lapses in their defensive duties.
We need to stop feeling sorry for ourselves and bounce back out there.
Fake short term supporters !! Interesting how everyone and their dog has the nerve to suggest that Arsene doesn’t know what he’s doing. We lost to superior team – get over it. We have our own long term plans and strategy – the Chelsea team are of course ‘classier’ but they cost how much more than the Arsenal squad ? We are in a rebuilding phase that could take a while – but we will achieve our objectives. It’s a bit silly to go bankrupt, win the Premiership this season and end up like Liverpool or worse still, like Leeds (financially bust) !
Arsene knows the type of players he wants but he won’t spend like an idiot – Chamakh is a good example, exactly the type of player we need but it would have been silly to spend so much when he will be available on a free transfer soon.
As a true Arsenal fan I’m frustrated but it would be silly and quite thick headed to suggest that Arsenal are ‘useless’ !!
As to the suggestion that on Fabregas could make the Chelsea first team – do you really think Arshavin, Song and Vermaelen wouldn’t be gladly snatched up by Chelsea !?!
That is very harsh Zoo.
You say we are in a rebuilding phase that could take a while – but we will achieve our objectives. Then why no-one was saying these words before the game? I’m sure had someone said we would lose 3-0, at home, he would have been crucified by all those who keep on supporting our average players despite being shocking in almost every game they play.
What you say is correct zoo we will be victorious, and the victory will be all the sweeter because we did it the wenger way. keep the heads up lads its not even Christmas yet all we have to do is start again to get some points on the board and see what position we are in on the 31 of january, The next three games after this date will decide our season.
Chris, I tend to agree with your view, except I don’t believe any Arsenal player could make the chelsea first eleven, not based on yesterday’s performance. Had the ref done a proper job it could well have been 4 nil. Edu kicking the ball out of Cech’s arms, it was a gimmick, on the other hand Sagna pulling down Anelka who had a real goal scoring opportunity…unlike vela with his back to the goal and going nowhere slowly. Perspective is in order, tactically, athletically and clinically they were the superior side. The silver lining I think is that the title pressure(though not decided) is now removed.
mate the only people who were were average were traore, denilson, gallas, eduardo, sagna and arshavin, you people are getting angry because we lost to a team that have been picked from all around the world with a squad total price of more than £100 million, so please of course they will have incredible quality then. But zoo has a point and i agree with him apart from the arsene ediot part. Also I agree with him saying rebuilding phase because every year we sell quality experienced players for big money, invest in most of it then sometimes buy a replacement. The 07-08 season was a very good year we had everything there experience, strength, pace, skills, everything we still have most of it but could do with experience and may be 1 or 2 more players because of our injury record,
Once again we have been proved wrong by our opponents that good football does not win anything but experience is the key to success.A.W. should now do what is expected of him otherwise we are going to lose Cesc and Arshavin to Barca and the likes and be left with a hopeless group of young immature players who cannot rise to the occassion when need arises.A.W.’s experimenting with this young players in our firstteam is hurting our bid to win trophies and he should be man enough to recognise and admit this fact and get quality experienced players who know how to win matches otherwise they will find themselves playing in the middle of the pack alongside Fulham/Blackburn and the likes.Yesterday wasa real shame to lose to Chelsea like that and once again we were leaderless with our captain suffering so much coz he gave his all only to be let down by his co-players and a bit of poor substitutions which did not add value to our quest for three valuable points from a big game like yesterday’s.Tactics and experience won yesterday’s game- period.
Play Carlos, Buy Guillermo Ochoa, and a bullish forward to drag all those defenders.
i was thinking the same thing about the keeper! Bring Ochoa he’ll handle the goal!
I really don’t think you can lose 3-0 and say we were unlucky and it was the referee.Without Van Persie we look very french – all foreplay and no penetration.
Agree
Is there anything new fellow gunners? In my own point of view no. Arsene believes he knows everything, but there is a lot he doesn’t know, one of which is that, the team is still the team of last season, nothing has changed there is no improvement. Another trophyless season beckons all because Wenger doesn’t know the game is about effectives combined with finess and not just kicking the ball around aimlessly. We lost to chelsea same way, same venue last season, we ve lost to man u, liverpool in two weeks time there is little hope. RVP for a centre forward for a whole season I always knew it was a pending disaster, not replacing Adebayor cos Vela another big Wenger joke. Thinking Arshavin, Gallas, Veramlen would maintain same form throughout the season, another big mistake, they are humans and would lose form at some point, not buying another central defender another mistake, but Arsene knows, does he really know? time will tell, for me nothing is new, is the same story, excuses that would follow after the end of the season as has been the case for the past 4 to 5 years. Nothing is new fellow gunners.
hey you guy , i think ur right at some point in ur
criticism of wenger but you should always know that even our fellow players disappointed us
players like theo, almunia is too poor, eduado cannot be the arsenal front man, even carlos vela, arshavin cannot be either
theya re too short fist of all, too weak, eduado is slow
so all problems were with the striking line, the defence did enough
we need serios strikers am telling you
players like carlton cole, gignac, eden zeko, yea players who are phsically strong and mentally strong and tough and quick
typical arsenal players
thanks
brian
I didn’t even bother reading what anyone had to say cuz i just want to express my opinion about the game and about the Arsenal, yes we lost, yes it might not seem fair because we did have a lot of the possession and we did play well but that’s all we did just played well, we did not have the edge that Chelsea had and still posses, I’ve seen it over and over again we are going back to an old routine of playing a good game and not seeing it through, you might say no but we started the season in brilliant fashion and we have a game in hand, yes and that game is against Bolton and even if we “manage” to beat them we close the gap to 8 points with god knows how many points we might drop till then.
Conclusion do not play Eduardo in a forward position and in January PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE buy a player or else ARSENAL is only going to be remembered for its Wengerball and for nothing else, and as good as it is to be known for one of the most beautiful style of plays in the world call me old fashioned but I would still prefer to win some damn titles!!
Good to be a GOONER
Chelsea has a far better squad. We need to spend big
agree 999999…….9999%
Mr Wenger must change his, b’cos we cannot have hypertension just b’cos we are supportin d team. We must spend big tym, we must sign at least a good, tall striker and a midfielder.
no finisher at all that is why we lost , look if drogba was no there i dont think that chelsea could win the derby ,and that show us the differece , arsenal at this time has two big problems , first for me in the midfield area they were the better side but when they build the ball no full striker who can find the net accept eduardo who is wasting the time and diving , second lack of physical also is our problem , if you looked very well last night is it shows that arsenal was the better side (possesion) they cant defend sp’s , so arsene and his kids i said to them go to hell.
The games played against tougher opponents like chelsea and Man united are goods performance indicator of Arsenal’s weaknesses and strenghts. The result of the chelsea game should be seen as an opportunity to better the team. It is very obvious that Arsenal is not as lethal as Man United, Liverpool and Chelsea up front. There need to be a stricker with both, the physical presence on the field and the skills required to cause havoc in the oponent’s defence and make the difference at any opportune time. These are strickers in the calibre of Drogba, Villa, Torres, Roney and even Adebayor possesses some of these abilities (I hate to say it).
Mr. Wagner should see and undestand that for Arsenal to win against these big teams, it is essential to bring in new players. As a Gunner die hard, i dont believe the team is as far back as some critics makes it seem. All the team needs is 2 to 3 new players, to fill the gaps unpfront and in the midfield and Arsenal will be once again be able to lift trophies.
Not to sure that i understand all the wailing and hand wringing going on at the moment, the only thing that Chelski had over us was Drogpa apart from that we were the better team, we played the better football but missed that big presence up front, it was always going to be tough without both RVP and Bentner as Eduardo is not and never will be a main striker.
We lost the game through poor defending from the right side of the back four (Sanga)and the piss poor defending from Gallas, Silvestre would have been a better choice defender given that Drogpa all ways has a good game against Gallas.
Managers strange moment, taking off our best player Song and replacing him with Walcott, wierd or what???, lastly we realy do need another big pure striker as we cannot take the chance that Bentner will not be injured again this season
get torres
I feel sad when I was watching this match… However, I believe that Chelsea deserves the win! Honestly, Chelsea is the better team in this match. They were defending well. To play with Arsenal, firstly you have to defend them well. Then, only think about to score against them. Yes, Arsenal had some chances and did score an uncounted goal, but let’… See Mores look at Chelsea. Did they get many chance before scoring the 1st goal? No, they didn’t even care about the possession! But, what they did for the win? Drogba, the man who slammed Arsenal twice in his only two chances. Arsenal lost to a efficient striker.
However, Arsenal should not give up. They should stand up again and fight again! Fighter never give up. Revenge is always more scarying than owning. “When Arsenal rises, Chelsea Falls!”
As an Arsenal supporter, I fully support my team all the time. Besides, I encourage that the other fans should not be blaming/cursing/criticizing on any other factor that caused the defeat. As an Arsenal support, we should always support our team no matter what happen; when they winl, when they draw, or even when they lose!
Even if chelsea are the better side, ceteris paribus we are still good enough to take points off them on occasion.
The way these games keep going is influenced by the refs. We never get 50-50s because it’s easier for the ref to not give us a decision. Nobody talks about it afterwards so the pressure is minimal. On the other hand if chelsea or utd feel like theyv been screwed, everybody hears about it. That’s why I think arsenal fans should start acknowledging the performance of the ref as poor.
That said we definitely are not good enough in defence. This match, for me, proved that the vermaelen signing was a poor one. Of course he’s an excellent footballer, but he hasn’t solved any of our problems. We need someone who can clear high balls effectively. That means, without having to climb all over the opposition attacker just outside the box AND get up high enough to properly clear the ball, not just win it. Otherwise we are just going to keep getting bullied.
Imo we have a fine set of attackers. Not at their best yesterday, and perhaps wenger used them a little incorrectly, but in terms of challenging for the title, we have enough there. We also have enough in midfield imo, although perhaps another song-type player would be useful. What we certainly need however is a proper CB, not another short libero/sweeper-type.
I must say I am surprised, and “happy” to see almost 50% of the votes saying Chelsea were better, rather than trying to find excuses for the defeat, as it was the case when we lost to Manchester United.
other than arshavin we need sm1 to support fabregas and RVP.
i am sorry to say but if wenger doesn’t spend now, then he is out of his mind.
there are no other influential players.
hw long can cesc motivate them on his own.
i think wenger should think for club now more than career of our youngsters, though they are talented but i think they should become warrior and win their place.
1st of all liverpool is in a mess! get torres!!!!!!!!!!
i think he will ream up with RVP and cesc fabuously!
then get a good goalkeeper!!!!! pleaaaaaaaaasssssseeeeeeeee
and a world class central defender toooooooooooooooo
i midfield, i don’t think we need any1 at the moment cause above 3 are more important.
otherwise if wenger doesn’t bring sm1 or i shld say sm3, then he’ll loose cesc and arsenal will loose a fan like me.
i think i have had enough of loosing our key players ’cause we don’t like to spend and we sell our linchpins for money.
Why all the Doom and Gloom!! until the the 1st goal we were the better team, with a little luck we should have been ahead,i believe AW made his 1st mistake not playing Walcott from the start his pace stopped Cole from going forward in the 2nd half and would have nullified that threat in the 1st half, the reason we conceded 2 bad goals. We fans all see glory when we are winning and playing well but lets look at our situation with some logic,we have lost our main striker RVP who has been on fire not only scoring goals but so much more(if Chavs had lost Drogba how effective would they be),we also had Bentdner missing who also gives a lot to the the team, our 1st and 2nd choice left backs are also missing(would the chavs have missed Cole you tell me).I honestly believe we can compete with any team on the planet but i think we need a top class GOALKEEPER more than any other position, you need a goalie to command his area all 3 goals should have been avoided, the 1st goal could have been stopped if Walcott had played, the 2nd goal also highlighted the lack of confidence our defenders have in our goalie his positional sense is poor, the 3rd goal showed his lack of thought Carvalho was positioned on the right side of our wall so you would think that Drogba would aim for him and he would duck out of arms way, exactly what he did so what did Almunia do take a step to his RIGHT? and then shuffle and dive to his left,he is a decent keeper and the best at our club but we need a Seaman Schmiechel type, our defence is fine, how many goals have we conceded through poor judgement by our keepers this season i rest my case !!!! Keep the faith……..
Here we go again, i said this b4 and i will say it agian, Wenger is our problem in this club, he has turned arsenal to lightweight club. I want to ask Wenger one question, when he was winning trophies for arsenal who and whom was the players then? Kids like we’ve got now or what?, no, big guys.
So, Wenger doesn’t see beyond his nose, and the management. Yes, our boys are trying their best, it is the manager that is making things difficult for them, they’ve proved to us that they can not do it all alone, the manager sold Adebayor, though i don’t like him, what did the manger do with the money, nothing, alot of good players are out there that would not cost us 15, 25 or 32 millions to buy them, with 8, 10, 11millinons we can still get strong players, but Wenger is in another planet from us, he does’t see what we think is our problem, and until he realise this before is too late.
Even Arshavin said that he has to buy good players, this guy has a reason for saying what he said. Just three players, good strong players, and one keeper, our goal keeper is terrible, it is a shame as big as arsenal are, we have been qualifying for champions league for the past twelve years, still our team is not solid enough. It is a shame Wenger, you are a good manger, but you are denying your own success by your self, to start winning again, buy three players this january then you would win the leaque, striker, CH,and goal keeper, spend 60millions on them, trophies would follow Mr Wenger. We have this money, spend it, we are tired of listening excuses all the time, if your team is goog enough there is no need for this, they would have killed their oponent before anything, so change your policy, it’s doesn’t work.
Who is that arsenal player that been overtaken phisically ? Stop talking rubbish we were not beaten due to theyr phisique .We dont have defenders and goalkeeper understanding to say the list. The defence is rubbish always.Look how many goals leaked so far and that speak volume. To correct that problem we brought Vermalen says Wenger. So just bringing Vermalen as a replacement for Toure has done any good ?
To me it is all politics to accomodate Gallas otherwise looking at the fact i do not see any improvement.
The game is lost because of luck of leadership .Leadership in sense of strong personality someone fearless to shout even at referee let alone opposition player.Someone that contest refering decison fiercifully even at the cost of sending himself off.Simply has to be english t make it better because colour and nationality counts a lot.
They got JT and who we got ?
Eduardo tackle on peter chech it would been easily became in our favour if it was Rooney.Simple.
JT tackle on Vela would it have been today the topics on SKYNEWS surely if it had been Gerard.
Trophy they are not won by simple rules of football and money.Arsene Wenger no question is a good coatch on the pitch and on trasfers for the club .I am conviced more than ever that ther e is no way we can get any kind of silverware.
AW will not listen to many readers or fans. Many managers will not do so.
AW has a plan that worked in the past, but is not working now. I am sure he is aware that he needs a better keeper, a striker, and a better defensive center mid.
The depth is the problem for Arsenal. But Arsene does not do well with rotation. He can not handle a big squad.
Set peices: Arsenal need to defend better in set peices … also use set peices a bit more. We need to start scoring more from set peices.
Arsenal looked very casual.
WHATS ALL this talk about ‘arsenal being the better team’ bollocks??
Can’t remember their keeper doing much..
Arsenal had 70% posession 0 shots on at one stage.
Well said AJ, ‘ ALL FOREPLAY AND NO PENETRATION’.
Arsenal played ok, but it seems their forwards are afraid to shoot the ball…Eduardo is trash, and don’t understand why he starts…Vela needs more playing time, and will prove to be essential for Arsenal’s frontline….Mexican starting goalie Guillermo Ochoa would be a good, somewhat inexpensive buy for Arsenal…
well my friends, i am sure for one thing after watching this game v cheski, arsenal will not win anything with these players that i will put here. these players ared: denilson, vela, traore, eduardo. these players are players that should not play in the firts 11.denilson i would have not include even in the reserves team, he is not for arsenal belive me.vela is very talented player but talented players does not win u the tittle or any cup. u have to see barcelona if u want to understand that. barcelona does not win the CL or spanish league with boan kerkic boscuets or these kind of talented players, thwy win trophis with players like messi eto xavi iniesta yaya pyjoll and these players are not talented players they are great players and matured. even walcott has to to a lot more in his game or if he dont then i am sure he is not a better player than lennon and he will not give something special in our team something that all of us are looking for. traore is a good player but a good player only to play for a club such as sanderland stoke portsmuth spuds everton not for us for sure. so definitely wenger has to know that this team will not win anything if he continues to put these players in the first team.
clearly we shud play 442 i dont see how nobody realises this?we played 2 experiment formations that clearly have failed. 451 ,433.he ruined last season with 451 ,i just hope he changes the 433 before he ruins this season too . im sick of watching these formation fail so miserably. but also i think if any one can do it in those bad formations arsenal can
Quite simply we were not in the game…….
I think its very easy to say we need to buy and clearly we do. I like our team and our players but watching the game yesterday really hurt. After going 1 down I still thought we could get into them a bit, but eduardo did not look sharp at all, even when through he made the wrong decisions and i dont believe he will lead the line. I do think someone with pedigree is needed up front. Bendy boy will and I believe can lead the line, I think he is the other end of the spectrum of adebayor. Ade with skill but no heart. Bendy. all the heart but not anywhere near as skillful.
I remember a clear indication of intent from certain players during the match, the ball went out for a throw in and Traore just stood there waiting for a ball boy to fetch it, Fabregas ran 25 yards and ran off the pitch to chase it and threw it himself so commitment is required on some part by some of them.
Physically we are lacking in height, build and heart.
Honestly I believe we cannot challenge for the title until we have 2 or three players. Everyone says we need a top class Goalie, I dont really think so, If we have a tighter defence and a good defensive midfielder then that should mask Almunia’s deficiency.
Plenty of hype surrounding Blaise Matuidi and he is one for the future, but we need someone now……and someone who has won something so I would prefer Lyon’s Toulouan or to have Patrick Vieira back. You cant beat a winners mentality.
Up front people reckon that Dzezko or Chamack. I think we should go all balls out and be incredibly rude and make an offer for Torres. I know its impossible, but a big wad of money waved at liverpool plus either Eduardo or Walcott…
dont shoot me over Walcott, but i dont think he has developed as planned and is too lightweight. there is no chance he is going to get 20-30 league goals a season and that is what we need.
The team is very very creative and people have said that we can create goals for fun, but we need a big all aggresive centre forward to piss off a centreback partership and Torres is one possibility. If there is a huge wad of cash sitting in the bank then I would have him. (dreaming)
I like the fact we can find plenty of kids and realise that they are good for the future but we need something NOW.
P.S. after Denilsons abismal showing why was Aaron Ramsey not playing instead on form at the moment and in my opinion a far better player?
Even with a full squad and top form, we won’t be able to match the big teams.
This team is just not strong enough..
4 years depending on youngsters = 4 years without a trophy,, as simple as that
btw: I think Fabregas deserves a better team, we should let him go next summer..
Most of the blind comments above suggest we were not in the game,1st Eduardo is seriously out of form he should have 10 goals already, this season he seems to lack that clinical finish we have been use too,2nd we were the better team for the 1st half(we were undone by an-ex great full-back and poor goalkeeping),lets not kid ourselves Chelski are a great team with top class players but they were the team defending most of the 1st half, committing lots of fouls to break up our play, they are so good at defending, they have complete trust in their Goalie and that is why they soak up so much pressure and when they break they have pace and craft in Cole who was allowed the freedom to get forward, as he did not fear any pace to attack him until walcott was introduced, they also had the pace & guile of Anelka too pull us around & the probably the best striker in the world right now Drogba to finish everything off,he is on fire this season.I hate to see our team lose but we were missing our wonderful RVP who was also looking the real deal this season,Bendtner and Clichy so lets not beat up our team too much we will be back & challenging for honours just keep th faith and please AW get us a world class GOALIE ………..
kushagra, you took the words right out of my mouth…I dont believe chelsea had better players , well except for drogba. I just think they had more belief and purpose! we have a perfect mid field but our defense and attack seems to be disconnected, did you see how the chelsea defense was organised? superb! now I see why almunia should leave cos his positioning is bad and gosh, he makes decisions like a PC with a PII processor! WENGER should go for CARLTON COLE and YAYA TOURE, I dont think chamakh will be any good for now considering he has already played for bordeaux, we need someone who can score goals or we’ll be whooped silly in the champions league. Carlon Cole pleas, even if its 15million pounds.
we did miss RVP but not clichy as we werent troubled from the left.i dont think we missed bendtner at all as you miss some one who has done something to be missed he cant win us a game against a relegated team like west brom what he could’ve done against chelsea. yes we did miss diaby and his physical presence in the middle almost everybody’s fav team played and we lost not just once but twice which shows how bad our judgement and assumptions are. best of luck for the rest of the season.
what we need:
a top class kepper e.g akinfeev, ochoa, lloris or even just rob green.
another top class big centre back e.g. fazio, sakho, zapata, subotic
someone in the middle to help song e.g. L.diarra ,matuidi ,veloso, vieira,
carlton cole!!!!!
all of these could be done by spending only in the region of 40 million pounds
Ochoa would be a perfect for Arsenal, but I feel Wenger would rather give one of the youngsters in the team a chance to come in for Almunia.
Cole would be good upfront but I don’t think West Ham will let him go considering that they are fighting relegation. A good target man would be Luca Toni and I think he’s available since he’s had a falling out in Bayern. They could try to sign him on loan till the end of the season and then Arsenal won’t jump into a rushed long term decision.
Just thot id mention that on the vote for the score for the Chelsea game, i said it would be 0-3 and guess what I was right did any1 else get it right out there.
We wont get any1 in January, wenger hates the jan window unless something exceptional is there to be got, and I dont see any1 coming in at this time, tho we need 3, im not being greedy, but thats what it wil take to turn this into a half decent season, rather than a decline to the abyss of the 3rd tier of the premier league.
Maradona was a shorty….BUT… He was as fast as a bullet and strong… and above all he had BRAINS.
I do agree that tall/big players have advantages…. but they also have disadvantages. Same applies for small forwards.
Our strikers are too small yes…. too small for one thing though….
The way we play!!
Cross… cross… cross…. cross….. cross……
I can see a fed up look in Sagna’s eyes (especially when he has a good day crossing)… it is impotent.. and BORING.
You can’t do the same thing over and over and expect different results.
Keep the ball on the ground… do what you do best…. quick slick passing….
And for the love of GOD…. more shots from outside.. Fabs can shoot… Rosy can shoot…. Denilson can shoot,,, Nasri can Shoot… Arshavin can shoot…..
How many set plays do we have for shooting from outside?
Besides…. I STILL think Arshavin should play in the front…. Arshavin is the kind of player that does a lot even on his BAD DAYS. He really is a silent and intelligent player. his stealth is incredible and his finish killer…. and even out of form has the intelligence to offset any defense creating more space for his mates… in this case VELA and Walcott…. both players that need the space to play at the pace they are comfortable. I think even Dudu could benefit from Arshavin’s extra support up front. Arshavin shouldn’t play behind the strikers. that should be reserved for Nasri, Fabregas, Rosicky, and Song (and/or Ramsey).
Another idea I’ve been having is why doesn’t Wenger play Abou Diaby up front since the fella likes to score?? It might even just work..
As much as i do agree the squad needs a couple of additions, I don’t think the current problem lack of talent…. I feel it is more a matter of inability to adapt with the spins and turns of the EPL. Injuries of key players are not dealt with properly. Using the same trick over and over isn’t going to cut the cheese.
