Arsene Wenger, “I never had the impression that we could not win this game”
It just doesn’t happen that often to read Arsene Wenger admitting defeat and Chelsea’s 3-0 heavy loss is no exception as the Frenchman is convinced that a deeper analysis of the game would see many realise that Arsenal deserved more than Chelsea on Sunday.
In a long interview given after the game, the Frenchman stated that his side is already focused on what comes next.
He said:
I am used to definite conclusions from people who see the score and have great knowledge. But I believe, let people talk and let’s play tomorrow and go back to training and practice.
And that’s always what you get in an excessive world. I personally believe from what I’ve seen, that was not the case. I never had the impression that we could not win this game we were quite on top for a lot of the game.
If you come on Tuesday, I will give you an analysis of the game, physically, technically, and you will be surprised. But I cannot stop you from having your own conclusions. Because when Drogba pushes one away or Ivanovic makes three fouls and pushes people away against Villa, he looks much stronger.
But you would be surprised if you see the final analysis of the game, they have an advantage in the impact, but that didn’t make them win the game today. In the play today, you will see them 60 percent behind the ball, and that has nothing to do with physical impact.
On whether the Gunners were penalised by the referee, who disallowed what seemed to be a regular goal and waved play on when Carlos Vela went down in the penalty area, Wenger added:
I do not want to talk too much about the referee. I think we make mistakes, and I just think the referee got the turning point of a game wrong.
When you start a game in the second half and you are 2-1 instead of 2-0, it’s psychologically different. And he got that decision wrong. That does not mean that we don’t need to look at ourselves and ask why we conceded the goals.
Many believe Arsenal are already out of the title race, but the Frenchman thinks otherwise.
The 60-year old said:
I do not think the title race is over. I think we are fighters and we have to show that in the next game. The problem we have at the moment that we face is that people will not believe in us, so we have to make sure that lack of belief does not diminish our belief.
And that’s where we have to be mentally stronger than we were until now. Because until now, we had some credit that we earned at the start of the season from the specialists, and then we a lose a game. And now it will be harder.

Wenger, proving you can be at the game and actually not see any of it. Maybe if he paid for his match day tickets he would be a more interested observer. Of course the title race is not over, it’s not, but we have lost four games through November. It is true we are a scrappy side but when miniature poodles square up to bulldogs is it really ever going to be a contest? Hoping for additions, against all hope and experience.
Stan, I think you’re being incredibly unfair, Wenger was at the match and I’m sure he saw some of it, the problem is does he understand what he is watching? Also, you completely neglected to mention the undying belief of Sagna and Rosicky who now think the title is either gone or chelsea’s to lose. Keep you head mate, all is well.
Guys, get real, of course Wenger would not want to watch this match. Can you imagine if all your grand dreams of beautiful young men playing beautiful football was crashing down all around you. I mean honestly…at least give Wenger credit for staying til the final whistle.
I am not the stats. man on here,but it is interesting to note that our present squad compared to the 2004 invincibles is 4 inches shorter and 7lb. lighter on average.Is this part of the reason that we often get out muscled.Strange that Wengerball as it is commonly called is never going to be as effective with a lightweight squad,and why did the manager go against a proven record by replacing players one by one with a team that we have now, of which several players are really clones of others and therefore our style of play can never change dramatically

Players not tracking back
No power or speed up front (knowing that the Chelsea defence is pretty slow,except Cole)
Replacing the only committed Mid we have (Song)
A Fabregas over warmed by the occasion
Arshavin who is now a pathetic image to watch
Walcott who is way over rated (not Lennon standard )
And so on, and so on…
What do the chelsea players have to do to convince Wenger they deserved to win? send all our players to the hospital? Perhaps after the game their players should should just stick our players heads in the mud and kick them in the guts a few times just to make sure wenger gets the message.
