By watching yesterday’s goal you would never say such a thing but according to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, Russian striker Andrey Arshavin did not use his right foot – the one with which he found the net – for a whole week, because of an injury.
Speaking after the Gunners win over Liverpool at Anfield, Wenger said:
He surprises the goalkeepers and defenders every time. His foot was injured and he couldn’t hit the ball properly on his right foot and didn’t practice the whole week nearly. But when he had the chance he still took it. Later I had to take him off because of that. At that moment [of the goal] he didn’t feel the pain.
On Saturday’s results, which saw Chelsea, the two Manchester clubs and Spurs dropping points, Wenger added;
I always said that Chelsea would drop points after our game and I believe they have and they will. Everybody will drop points because there are so many good teams in this league. Now Liverpool have Gerrard back, Torres back, Aquilani back, I tell you many will drop points here. They played at a level in the first half that was impressive.
