Arsene Wenger’s update on Cesc Fabregas’ injury and the game

Submitted by Jeffrey on December 17, 2009 – 4:00 21 Comments

Arsenal left Turf Moor with plenty of regrets yesterday and with the bad news of Cesc Fabregas’ injury. The captain, according to manager Arsene Wenger, will surely miss Saturday’s game.

The Frenchman said:

He is injured but for how long I don’t know. It is a hamstring. He will not play on Saturday.

On the game, Wenger added how the Gunners lost concentration after taking an early lead. He said:

The most difficult part was to start well and be 1-0 up. After that we became a little bit easy. At 1-1 we understood it was a real cup game. That is what it was really. We were a bit jaded physically and in the final third, we lacked a little bit of sharpness. They played a committed cup game. The second half was us dominating without really being decisive. They only played with counter-attacks but they did it very well.

serves u right wenger. lets see what your ego can do. will it bring u to the top of the world? or perhaps smacks you back down to earth. soon the whole team will be injured. i got the feeling that wenger’s training regime is too hard, that’s why the injury keeps on coming. i really want to see sanchez watt, sunu, simpson or even afobe to be playing in the 1st team.

  • gunner says:

no story no nothing, poor startng line.walcot is not capable and we saw that in last CL game he was worse,in liverpool he was worst but still in startng.eboue, welshere are there even ramsey can play.now cesc is out i dnt knw who will cook n prepare the goals.another thing is when we score 1 we think its enough this idea should be kept aside we need goals atleast 3 before half time.well lets us see next game

  • chegzy says:

Mr Aw plz why are you still keeping that go for nothing goalkeeper, he will be the one to bring down arsenal just take a look at the silly ball that past thru him if not for the offside flag

  • John Muhindo says:

Mr wenger, people tell u to buy players you don`t want and yet your squad is small. After set back that is when you lament. Even your players when the play a big team their morale is high to perform, and a small team it is viceversa. Is this the way you train them? Look at the game of Burnley and Liverpool. Their morale is different. Think a bout it wenger.

    I second that big time
PLEASE check for your selves, I will not tire you with listing the names, but out of the 25 field players only 3 or 4 were Uninjured this season!
GKs : both Almunia and Fabianski,
Defenders:out of the 9 defenders 6 or 7 have (had) injuries, some long and serious. Only Vermaelen seems 100% ( maybe being fresh from ajax helps..). Gallas carries his niggles, which he plays thru, like a warrior .
the ENTIRE midfield of 11 players were injured with the exception of 1-Song
THE ENTIRE 5 men strike force was/is decimated .
THIS IS INCREDIBLE DATA , no doubt.
Some speak of bad luck, some say our players are ‘glass’, all of them? this is ridiculous idea.
WENGER says there is a reason but they have not found it yet. is this ironical remark or serious?. Arsenal is supposed to have the best physios, trainers, medics around. so what is going on? Is it the training regime? is it the style of play that exposes the players more?
Chelsea supposed to be old but you do not see that in such extremity. Sometime I look at Barca and wonder how with this short squad that they have and play more then us stay so fit over entire season. It would be great to hear someone’s explanation or theory about it.

I afraid that the very person who made us a formidable team in the epl is bringing the team down they drop so low they accept second best because of that same man’s arrogrance and pointless stubborness thats killing the team he made giants in the epl. Mr Wenger is our BEST EVER MANAGER PERIOD, a brilliant tatician, and a veteran at findin young talent, without a doubt one of THE BEST MANAGERS IN THE WORLD. As we all know that all great managers always have a grand plan to make their team champions, they go as far as protectin their players(which wenger does),believing in their players(wenger does),spend a lot of money to improve the team wenger might not do much of this, but whats killing our young TALENTED(without a doubt the most talentd arsenal team yet) is wat all great managers must succumb to,and thats realising when its goin wrong 4 his team and his mistakes and makes a change in the team’s plans. Im afraid our greatest manager is killing the teams chances of getting silverware himself with his arogance and stuborness. Managers like Fergie, mourinho, etc realise their mistakes and does anythng to make his team grab any trophy within their reach even if it takes him to change al his plans and spends money to make his team a formidable one. Wenger is refusing to give in the fact that he made a mistake not replacin ade wit another striker, and is also refusing to accept that our team needs a physical presence, a player wit wayne rooney’s character,a holding mid, a few no nonsense defenders,an old experiencd player,2 more strikin giants, and 4 God’s sake a world class keeper. Players he should get to bolster any chances for us winnin a cup wud be, Mertesacker,Mexes, Van Der Wiel, and sol campbel as our no nonsense defenders, gallas n vermaelen need back up. 4 holdin mid Filipe Melo,he has a temper like rooney and hates loosing, van der vaart wud be great as experience down da wings where nasri and walcot wud learn from hm, for strikers it wud be dzeko who can make great headers and a match winner, podolski for his physical strength, and even a gignac 4 depth as backup 4 bendtner or rvp, and as for a keeper, maybe a Lloris or Akineev, we shud sell, Randal,Eboue,Eduardo, and almunia or fabianski. But knowin wenger he wont do it,even if it wasnt da exact players i mentiond, arsenal is very very similar to barca wit its style in play arsenal jst lack wat iv jst mentiond, so wen we dont get any cups this season it wil be al his own doing.

REMEMBER WE WERE LUCKY TO BEAT LIVERFOOL LAST WEEK AND WE WILL ALWAYS BE VULNERABLE AGAINST TEAMS BELOW US, SO STOP COMPLAINING AND KEEP ON SUPPORTING A TEAM THAT WILL AGAIN SEE NO TROPHIES THIS SEASON…THANX TO YOUR PROF WENGER. PLAYERS THAT MUST GET A FREE TRANSFER: WILCOT- HE IS USELESS, SYLVESTE- PAST HIS SELBY DATE, EDUARDO- HE IS SO SCARED TO GET INVOLVE, NOT THE PLAYER HE USE TO BE, DIABY- AND OSTRICH WITHOUT A HEAD, ROSICKY TOO MANT INJURIES AND KEEPING OTHER PROVEN YOUNGSTERS OUT OF THE SQUAD. SO THE MORAL OF MY STORY, MR WENGER IS…GO AND DO SOME EARLY SHOPPING FOR NEXT SEASON

  • Chris says:

Steven and Jay, take it easy please, I had to delete your comments.

  • salman says:

damn this was a golden oportunity i am hoping chelsea and manu drop points this weekend

  • Mr wenger should be sacked his foolishness is catching up with him.we(arsenal fans in Nigeria) are tired of his noncess and non challant attitude.pls let the board help us by sacking wenger.

  • Arsh says:

This is a totally moronic crowd that comes here, people swearing, people not know what they are saying , total shambles, are you aware of this chris,??

    • Chris says:

I am fully aware of this but unfortunately I work in the morning and can’t moderate the website 24/7. I do my best to instruct the system to block rude comments and believe me, it does, but some still make it through.

      • Mark says:

Chris you do a great job with this site and is hands down the best Arsenal site out there, keep up the great work. What is great is that you are getting more and more comments to each post and many of us look forward to your ratings after each match and the chance to discuss them amongst other fans realizing that we have different opinions on things.

So many of these injuries we’ve been getting are muscular, particularly hamstring injuries. The American Football team I follow (Washington Redskins) a couple years ago had many of its players getting hamstring injuries. Eventually the team changed its weight/strength training regimen and those type of injuries have pretty much disappeared.

As poorly as the team has played of late in the opinion on many (myself included) when you look at our injury list compared to other teams it is massive. You look at Man City dropping points right and left with just a couple of injuries, Chelsea coming back to earth with Essien out and sneaking out a win last night, Liverpool’s struggles without Torres, etc.. We aren’t just missing one player, but many key ones (RVP, Clichy, Gibbs, Bendtner, Rosicky and now Fabregas not to mention many valuable reserves to give us depth with the schedule we face and others like Arshavin playing with injuries that limit them) and although we are not playing anywhere near the level we were early in the season it’s amazing that we haven’t dropped more points. The next couple of weeks will be key as to how we cope without Cesc and whether we can duplicate what we did last year without him.

        • Chris says:

That is very kind Mark, the kind of comments which make me run the site with the same enthusiasm and passion of day one. Of course all this wouldn’t have been possible without contributors like you and others, who always provide their in-depth analysis of the games.

  • I am so disappointed about this club whenever i remember the 96 97 98 to 2003 arsenal squad it makes me to loose hope on the current squad.why cant we challeng our challengers we have became so weak that even the the smaller clubs are no longer afriad of us.the players are small in size,i bet u we are sure of any trophy this season again

  • Who is will bet me arsenal is not going to win any trophy this season our performance is reducing every week its right time we stop playing with this children lets stop decieving ourself ever since we start using children squad which trophy have they won us.

  • mutabazi eric says:

It is really harting to take the first lead and loose the match at the end!
    But i percieved that our team is poorly managed by AW because,our players are too young such that they can not play 3 times a week which cause maby injuries due to muscle fatigue;
After 13 experience with Arsenal the coach should recognise this issue!
Look again i does’nt want to recrute player whom may bring power and energy into the team:so,the injuries will occur as long as he don’t remplace them
    Finally Aluminia is not No 1 found out another keeper other wise we will go no where!May be change the medical team bcz the doubt of their techics looks poor;
    Thx

  • ArsenalTerrorist says:

Keep on supporting your TEAM but Am 100% sure that Arsenal will never ever win any trophy under Wenger. And I know that the board is just ignoring our views en opinions we are not Spurs,or City we are Arsenal The great team that was supposed to be challenging for top honors. People pls stop calling Wenger A professor, he is not ,To be a professor u must find the way how to win things There is no plan B Now cesc is injured this will be a disaster . In opinions We should try to get one suicide bomber from Iraq who is an arsenal supporter to kill wenger. En for sure from there we will start wining things with a new coach en there is no other way the board will sack wenger

    • True gunner says:

i like the iraqi bomber plan!
although i had always bin a great arsene wenger fan but this season he’s simply lettin things slip out of his hands- we cant afford that

let’s bring pep guardiola to the club!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ben says:

A quick injury update: apparently the worst-case scenario for Fabregas’ hamstring is a 10 day layoff. He will definitely sit out the game against Hull, but it’s touch and go for the Villa game, and should definitely be back for Portsmouth if he doesn’t recover in time for Villa.
