Arsene Wenger’s concerns ahead of the African Nations Cup

Submitted by Jeffrey on December 24, 2009 – 4:00 6 Comments

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is worried for what the outcome may be at the Africans Nations Cup. With Emmanuel Eboue and Alex Song involved with their respective National teams, the Frenchman believes that once back, they may be disappointed or tired or even both.

Wenger told the London Evening Standard:

I would rather plan without an African Nations Cup every two years. We plan to cover their absence with the players we have in the squad. Fortunately, this year we only have two who go to the tournament.

Sometimes we have had worst periods than that but we still lose two quality players.

On occasions, the players come back affected by a negative experience. Sometimes they come back very tired and that depends on the climate and the number of games they have played.

The effects are not necessarily seen during the period that they are out there but it can have consequences on their form for the rest of their season.

    song will be missed much!
i just hope he comes back good mentally !
though signing a backup, on a short term basis, wont be bad.
i’d really love to see Paddy back with us.
he’ll provide us with much needed cover, along with the invaluable experience that would be of immense help in our young team’s development.

I am sure we can kope with that …missing Song and Eboue, it is a loss to us but we still have Diaby and denilson then Ramsey….again it is good Traore is back..will be there to stop the speedy Aston villa player like ashley young…this guy causes troubles…..But i think Sagna,Gallas,Vermaelen nad traore will stop them all….comon Gooners

    Happy Christmas all
In wenger i trust but i hope he will find replacement for song as i like diaby on the attack he give us a different op with a defensive midfielder and an attacker we would have good enough strength i am hoping santa will arrive at arsenal
