Arsene Wenger: Andre-Pierre Gignac is too expensive to consider a move

Submitted by James on January 9, 2010 – 11:55 9 Comments

Another striker name who will definitely not join Arsenal was revealed by manager Arsene Wenger.

24-year old Andre-Pierre Gignac is too expensive for the North London Club to consider a move, even though the Arsenal manager already knows the player well and admitted he likes him.

Speaking ahead of his marketing campaign plans, Wenger said:

I like the player. I don’t need to send people to watch him because I know him well enough already because he plays for the French national team.

Lyon tried to buy him last year for nearly £20million, so the price was too high.

Three cheers, hip hip – I’ve seen him play often and could never understand what the fuss what about. Nowhere good enough for us.

  • Fresh says:

wow,as soon as I saw him I thought he looked great, weird isn’t it?
Strong, Fast, Mobile, good skills, and can put a hole through the back of the net!!!
and a true striker…which hwe don’t have as of yet!
??? I know its exy but we have so much money in the transfer kitty. Its not like he’ll lose value!! unless he’s saving the kitty for a massive spending spree in May (of which there is no chance) then it seems like a good buy. if we had a serious strike force to match our amazing midfield, we could seriously consider the champions league as a possibility. he will be worth well over 20million in 3 years time? So it’d be a good investment to to boot. I just don’t get it!!
We’re definitely using the sale of players to pay off the stadium

  • Fresh says:

I love AW, he has done so much for us but I can’t help but feel we’re supporting a stadium rather than a footy side! Why do we need to be a “Selling Club”?

    • Chris says:

      I wouldn’t say we’re a selling club.

We’re doing well without Robin and Nick so in a way, Emmanuel Adebayor was not needed, though I don’t agree with Wenger when he said Vela was the reason he didn’t replace him. In a way, I don’t think he meant literally, he meant Nick to replace Adebayor and Carlos Vela to be promoted as regular as compared to last season.

As for Kolo Toure, he was replaced by Thomas, a much better player from what he showed so far.

  • Barry says:

What about Maurio Zarate from Lazio ?

  • mr_potato72 says:

lets today match decide do we need a new world class striker or not. Without RVP, fabregas and song and only defender is complete.

  • gooner74 says:

this is getting a joke now, wenger is prepaired to sell players at a high price near on 40m for adebayor and toure and yet wont even buy a much needed striker for around the 20m mark and please dont tell me bendtner is gona be the one to hold that role, its gona be a couple of weeks before hes back then he has to get match fit then whos to say he dont have a relapse of the injury, and in all honesty i dont rate bendtner anyway hes just not good enough,
nope wenger is hopeing bendtners gona be ok and rely on him or its gona be another bargain basement because he cant get chamakh on the cheap as per normal cos the guy has said hes staying where he is till the end of the season.
its an absalute joke the highest ticket prices in the country if not europe sell players for millions yet not prepaired to buy quality that we really need.
this season will end the same way it has done for the past 5 years with nothing this has become a selling club, the directors of the club and wenger are only interested in one thing and thats making a huge profit from selling players and ticket prices and being in the CL.
prepair for another excuse at the end of the season from wenger cos thats all we’re gona get “well i felt we was strong enough with bendtner coming back but maybe looking back we should have got in 1 if not 2 more players in jan” same old same old

  • Herbert says:

AW and the Arsenal board that’s a stingy combo…
No one will be brought in january and we will be stranded, again, when the important games will be upon us… As usual… We are too predictable, our game and way of playing is too predictable, no variance, and AW is too predictable.

So we all know the end result, no trophies at the end of the season…
I red a quote from AW saying that ” in 5 years that team will dominate in Europe”… !!! I am sorry but what the “hell” is he talking about????

In 5 years players like Fabregas, Arshavin, Diaby, Gallas, Clichy, Van Persie and more will be all gone…!!! So what does it mean???
