Yaya Toure, “I never understood why Wenger did not want to close the deal”
Unsettled Barcelona midfielder Yaya Toure revealed he was bitterly disappointed not to sign for Arsenal a couple of seasons ago, a move which would have seen him join brother Kolo in the red and white jersey.
The Ivory Coast International has been linked with the Gunners more than once in the last couple of seasons, but manager Arsene Wenger preferred to work on the development of Abou Diaby, Denilson and Alex Song.
Speaking of a possible move to North London, the 26-year old is quoted by Spanish publication Marca as saying:
I was disappointed and never understood why Wenger did not want to close the deal.
But one day I would like to play in the Premier League.

oh whatever in the summer yaya you was saying you did not want to come to us like we are not some top club or something, now that your not being played that much AGAIN! you bring out this come get me plea, and to be honest im glad actually that we have song and diaby who are all still young and will be wayyy better than you by the time they hit your age, forget you yaya.
good play arsene
He never meant it that way, He could not have said he wants to come to Arsenal while still very much a Barcelona player and thats for obvious reasons:-
What happened to Adebayor when he said he wanted to join Barcelona – Yaya was wise, Adebayor wasn’t.
SCUM – THAT YAYA IS GAGA
Well messi, i do not agree with you that yaya is not a good player anymore. AW wanted him for cheaps. He neva believe in him to be a good player that is why he refused to get him then at de required amount.
alaska i didnt say that yaya is not quality read my post an you will see, i think his world class but from when your trying to act like arsenal are not a top world class then theres something wrong severely wrong mate, and nobody will disagree with what i said about song and diaby being way better than him by the time they get to 26, take note song is only 21 and his incredible, diaby is 23 so they still have more years ahead of them so ofcourse they will get better toure is in his prime now and doesn’t even get played continuously in the midfield 3 alongside iniesta an xavi, imagine when song diaby an cesc get even better or how good they will be by 2 or 3 years more, come on man be real, plus from now on we cant afford to be bringing more africans then only going to AfNC
AW should get Łukasz Podolski from Koln for cheap
dan, use your own name mate. Yaya is like a good number of players wenger failed to appreciate, it does happen a fair bit. Podolski? another small one, not.
Perhaps the gafa know how disruptive it could be to have two siblings in his team. Especially as it turns out the one already with us us none too loyal. Even in the mist of Kolo’s move, he was giving interviews about how loyal and committed to Arsenal his big brother was. Surely he must have known otherwise.
Kolo Toure was loyal to Arsenal- Pure, Plain & Simple.
I am still his great fan & I really hate the idea of hating players just because they changed clubs as if yourselves don’t change jobs.
FREDDY KOIGI: This appears to be a question of semantics. From a player’s point of view, loyaly to me means sticking with a club regardless of financial or any other considerations. That Kolo is now with Ch*ity for more financial gain is academic. How you can say that “Kolo Toure was loyal to Arsenal- Pure, Plain & Simple” is beyond me. Perhaps you can explain. Better still, can you tell me what you mean when you use the term loyal?
I do not necessarily hate the guy, but my energy is better used loving the players of the team I support and perhaps those that will join us in the future.
There is only one meaning of the word loyal and that’s what i meant.
Kolo was loyal to Arsenal and that is it.
Arsenal or rather Arsene Wenger was very unloyal to Kolo Toure and this is how:-
Kolo had played for Arsenal for a long time, he was undisputed leader on the pitch and had a good relationship with other players and never called them kids, he was definitely the better player then and still Arsene Wenger made William Gallas captain – That was a betrayal and the aftermath of the whole saga proves it all – and none of that was Toure’s fault so i see no reason why an Arsenal fan would hate him.
Maybe, you can tell me a single act of disroyalty that he ever did to Arsenal, I will appreciate.
So you are saying that because AW chose Gallas as captain, he was being disloyal? This is rather presumptious because a manager chooses his captain as he sees fit and if you are saying that this single act set the ball rolling for his eventual exit from the club, then you are wrong.
Firstly because Kolo himself has admitted that he deserved the big pay day in moving on as the primary motivating factor for leaving. Secondly, Gallas was stripped of the captaincy a while back. Surely this would seem to be a bigger cause for upset than not having had it at all? Gallas did not leave, instead he has knuckled down to produce some of his best form yet.
Besides, you keep talking about hating the man despite my ascertion that I dont. What’s up with that?
Could you imagine our midfield with Song and Yaya? For now we have Song and Diaby so who knows whats going to happen. I’m a Denilson supporter so I hope Denilson hits the weights and develops more into an all around player. He’s got what it takes, he just needs a bit more time and experience to come good. Just like Gilberto…
Gooner4lyf
Id rather have song and flamini than song and yaya to be honest.
Song and diaby could be insanely good by this time next year too.
Denilson can be very good too, I agree.
So we have 3 midfielders who are/could be incredible, without even mentioning ramsey, who might even be the best of the lot. He has attacking quality that reminds you a bit of cesc, but hes also got an engine and some strength.
We don’t need yaya. I don’t know that he’s that good anyway. Hes looked good at times when Ive seen him, but Id always heard he was inconsistent – and if he was really that good he’d be more of a regular at barca
Thats right… time to peel some more oranges while u warm that bench YAYA… lol
Yaya you are by no means on your own, who knows what goes on in Mr Wengers mind but it usually works out right in the end.
this guy made up that whole “I want to leave barca” crap a coupla years ago so that Barcelona would offer him a new deal and possibly a better wage.. I guess he shut up then.. Wenger never saw commitment at the other end so he let go.. Its not like wenger is jobless to sit and wait for one player.. The man has a network of scouts running all over the world for christ’s sake.. And yes!! Song can be compared to any top DMF in the world today.. So I guess it was good business by the boss….Yet again!!!!!!
thank you point proven calibre top man the pal up there (alaska) doesnt really understand what we both mean about song an toure himself, cheers
Why attack Yaya?Wenger is not immune to mistakes and/or miscalculations, At the time Arsene thought he has Flamini and Diarra. Yaya would have been right for Arsenal, strong fast technical, can deputize as CB , and v.good shot too. Unless Arsene had some reservations of having 2 brothers in the team (and why should he,) not signing Yaya was one of those moments , like missing out on Drogba, that Wenger erred,. Speaking of which, Yaya is one of the few I have seen who was able to overpower Drogba and win one on one battles against him when he deputized as a CB against Chelsea. I am sorry not to have someone like Toure , he is not as versatile as Keita (in Barca) or Diaby , but for the job he is an incredible DM no doubt
We already forget about you Yaya… case closed…
Yaya….more two-faced blabbing from this Adebayor clone. Go take a hike and join the greedy lads at Eastlands!
Somebody may think you will complain if Arsene Wenger decides to go for him. ha ha ha
Yaya and Flamini were once our players and so A.W. knows what to do if they are both available and are fit enough to mold into our current team play.I would welcome any of them without complaining at all if A.W.brought them back coz they have already be exposed to very competitive and at a very high levels of this game called football so let us appreciate these players that leave our club for other greener pastures too and make them always feel welcome to our fabulous club all the time.
arsen want play song an yaya in the same team its one or the other i think yaya is much better . That a player we need tall big and powerful , does any one no how much he will cost, becaust if it under 10million il bring to arsenal .
why does everyone think in terms of millions to buy players, what about the wages? 4 million a year for Yaya, 5 years, that’s a £30m buy for a player we don’t need. song will as good if not better under the tutelage of AW
I think AW already had issues with Kolo, adding his brother to the squad would have been inflating htose problems. i think AW wanted Yaya but he’s a very astute man, he sees the whole picture and to shift power in the team by adding Kolo’s brother to the mix wasn’t worth it. it was a shame Song and Diab’s were a little too young to step up a season earlier. but hey, they’re here now so lets forget Yaya.
I completely agree.
I think yaya is a great player. Wenger once said that he didn’t have a good attitude compared to his senior who was a very disciplined player. That’s why he wasn’t signed. Wenger shld bring him in n convert him to a center back.
Song and Denilson are still trainees not in the class of Yaya even I will take Flamini over them. Unless you want to twist the truth but I am not ready to go down that routh.Yaya is matured and seasoned midfielder period.Check the score line, the defeat to Chelsea goal margin when we played Flamini or Song. In Flamini time it was 2:1 at worst. Song time we lost 4:1, 3:0 and not mention 3:1 CL semi against Man U.
Song a trainee!!!!!!. That comment must be the 8th wonder of the World.
But i also would not mind Flamini or Yaya Toure much either, especially now that we are buying back players, maybe we should get Flamini back, the fellow was just amazing at how he can play defence, midfield & attack as if it was just the same position – AC Milan don’t know what a golden boy they have.
Do we hate him too?, I have noticed we are supposed to hate players when they leave – I never have.
Apparently he is an Arse and Arsene sussed him out.
AW never wanted to close the deal because he has no cash…!!
Arsene? no cash?, since when, he probably has more than Manchester City but our league position, strike rate, goal difference, beauty & grace of our team on the pitch, no of competitions we are still in and amazing stay near the summit of the league despite all the injuries proves one thing:- He doesn’t need to use that cash
We may need strikers, defenders midfielders and even more urgently a goalkeeper but statistics can clearly show us that – Arsene Wenger doesn’t have to use his cash.
Our need for transfer activity is fueled much by recent failures and media insistence because on reality of today and the way things are Arsenal doesn’t need new players to win this competitions.
How long have they survived without a striker and how many goals have been scored since then – there is probably only one other club which has scored more.
We have the best goal difference meaning our defence as porous as it can be sometimes- It is still working.
There is absolutely no team can beat Arsenal’s pattern of the beautiful game even Barcelona is not as good nowadays and for that to happen, you need exremely good midfielders – So what does that tell you about our midfield.
Yes we need players, for support only as the best players are already ours.
