Arsene Wenger, “We tried to sign players but it didn’t work and we have to accept that”

Submitted by James on February 10, 2010 – 4:00 9 Comments

For maybe the last time this month, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger archived the January transfer window by explaining that he wanted to sign players but for a reason which he didn’t explain, it simply “didn’t work”.

Speaking ahead of the Liverpool game, the Frenchman again declared his side will fight for the Premiership until the end, although having three strikers out at the same time was of course, not helpful at all.

The Frenchman said:

We tried to sign players but it didn’t work and we have to accept that. We lost strikers. At the moment unfortunately we have got three strikers out basically with Bendtner just coming back, Eduardo out and Van Persie out.

The coincidence of the fixtures happens that when you lose one player he misses three big games. You have to accept that as well. But we have promised ourselves to fight until the last game of the season.

On signing players on loan, Wenger added:

First of all you must find the players who are better than the players you have. And I believe that our basic problem was not offensive in the two games we lost just now. It was more defensive.

  • please Arsene you must be take your comente you are the reason for the lose of these all points of Arsenal the gunners play with out striker.are you expect to win todays game.

  • Renan says:

First of all we don’t need top class players on this stage of the season,, we just need players with the same quality than what we have for back ups because we lack of that ! I don’t care if it was Campbell or anyone else,, I just want too see new players who is effective on the field.

You have to say that the only reason we seem to be interested in Chamakh is that he’s availlable for free.Wenger trades players like he’s dealing in shares. We don’t like him for 10 mill. but we like him for nothing.Surely the most significant thing is that he’s scored only one in four in the French league, which isn’t stunning.

  • Sid Khan says:

Thing is when he says we’v got plenty of strikers but when there not world class you could have 10 strikers who won’t make a difference. Wots the point.

  • karis says:

There is no point in listening to Wenger talk. Football is about performance and results and not explanations and finances. Wenger is liar and his interests are in what returns the shareholders get and nothing for the supporters. I dont understand how he can play two consecutive games without a striker and expect to win. It is time for him to pack and go.

    • george says:

the shareholders dont take money out of Arsenal .so it seems you are the lier.muppet

      • aj says:

But they have made a fortune, none more so than Fizsman, by a massive increase in the share price which has more than doubled since the move to the new stadium. Which, if you remember was meant to allow us to compete with the other top teams. No-one said at the time it was meant to boost the assets of the existing shareholders. Please don’t get sucked in by the Arsenal PR machine hype.

      • Paul says:

When the club offers a player for 15 million, wenger bids 4 million, even west ham can outbid us now, it’s a joke, and you fell for it.

  • Lijoodi says:

Arsenal has only one striker. Van persey , who is not available. The rest are strikers by number, and not by scoring. If wenger bought any two strikers, we would be far far much better. The worst is yet to come i bet.
