Arsene Wenger’s injury update ahead of tonight’s game: Eduardo out, Bendtner on the bench

Submitted by Jeffrey on February 10, 2010 – 4:30 30 Comments

Arsenal will face Liverpool at the Emirates with “no big” injury worries although Croatian striker Eduardo will miss his third game in a row after failing to recover in time for the game.

The 26-year old will be available for the Champions League game against Porto whilst Nicklas Bendtner is still not 100% fit and will again start from the bench.

Wenger said:

We will check that before training this morning but normally we have no big injuries.

Eduardo will not be back for Liverpool, but he should be available for Porto. He is not completely fit at the moment. That is one of our problems.

He still plays a little bit handicapped, you can see he does not run free and he is not completely fit yet.

The Gunners desperately need a win to make up for back-to-back defeats against Manchester United and Chelsea and make sure to consolidate their third place in the table.

Wenger pulling an Aquilani with Bendtner

Relying on a 5′6″ player to get crosses

Fan have told wenger more than enough. since his knows his players better than us let us see how the season will end

Fans have told wenger more than enough. since wenger knows his players better than us let us see how the season will end.othwise arsenal still has a crisis for trophies.

  • Kanye14 says:

I know arshavin is to liverpool wat drogba is to arsenal but for goodness sake he should not lead the line alone. Arsene keeps telling us that theo is a striker and yet he doesnt give him a chance upfront. Theo is clueless on the flanks. Why not put him upfront flanked by arsh and rosicky/nasri with a mid of cesc song n abou. Back four the usual bar sagna n put eboue in and also clichy, who seems to have forgoten that he is a defender, and have vermaelen at LB and partner gallas with sol. Put fabianski in goal he cant be worse than almunia, nobody can!! or give eboue a chance in goal.

  • oz gooner says:

Personally I am going to be patient till 2016/17 then our average age will be the same as Chelsea and we will see how this team has matured. Also Arshavin will have grown to 6 foot 2

  • Aussie Jack says:

Eboue in goal…..I like it….after all I did suggest Almunia at centre forward. If you can`t convince `em confuse `em and `scouser`s get easily confused, I should know I `ve been married to one for the best part of fifty years. We`ll both be up early to watch the match, I`ve hidden all the kitchen knives and we`ll be drinking from paper cups…Go the Gunners or my life won`t be worth living.

  • Hunter says:

So Bendtner is still not fit but we refused to buy a striker in the transfer window? This gets more annoying every day. I’m about 1 more loss away from jumping on the “We need to rethink Arsene’s position” bandwagon. He has decimated our team and gives us nothing but excuses. When we played Chelsea last week we averaged 3 inches less in height and a full stone lighter. We are too light weight and too small. His comments about being third in the league is better than winning a cup just shows what type of losing mentality we have running throughout the squad. The invincibles had power, pace, flair and a mean streak when it was needed. Why did he destroy or great squad and turn it into a schoolboy team?

For all of you on Arshavin’s back for saying we are lucky to be in third you need to relax. He is right. He seems to be the only one questioning why we don’t make moves for players and why we have this losing mentality instead of going for the prize when it’s right there in front of us. 40 million in the bank and we spend nothing. That pretty much sums it all up. We are going to lose Cesc and RVP because good players want to win things and are not satisfied to finish third or fourth every year.

  • Hash says:

Agree with Oz Gooner. Wenger lost his plot. If himself doesn’t change, things wouldn’t change at Arsenal and here we are for 5 years. Wait, still wait and will wait…

Maybe we have to wait another 10 years until Wenger is 70 yr and announces his retirement, Denilson’s role at Arsenal is player-staff and Almunia becomes a part time journalist!

We need a change, huge change of Arsenal. But i just think if the changes should include Arsene himself if things didn’t work at all..

  • oz_gooner says:

If Bentdner isnt 100 % why play him?

Give Walcott and Vela free rain at the front with a 4-4-2 formation.. Surely it couldnt hurt to try it for 45 minutes.. They both need to find form, they are quick and might just work..

  • Adeyemi Ralph says:

Oz Gooner, you are right. Let us wait and see the end of wenger.

  • jamie m says:

With city winning and still with a game in hand we are right back in a fight to stay in the top 4.If we lose tonight and lets face it its very likely we are up the creek.Everybody is harping on about our easy run in but every team in the league will fancy playing us now we are so predictable its scary.Wenger could not care less what the fans say he is so detached from the supporters and reality its unbelievable.

  • soccersurf says:

Wenger deserves what he is getting. Slight tweaks are all that were needed

He got his strategy dead wrong 3 games in a row at the most crucial part of the season and now we arent in the title hunt anymore. That is a reality

I will always love Arsenal and that is why I have to criticize Wenger. He is the one deciding to continuously play Almunia even though he cant clear a ball. To play Denilson who jogs leisurely back on defense… the list goes on

PLEASE PLAY MANONE AND EBOUE TOMORROW. Both deserve a start

  • Darfy says:

I agree wit u perfectly.we don’t av d strength, height, stamina, name dem and all we get 4rm wenger is “we tried 2 sign players, recession, giving money 2 other teams wil strengthen dem” and all sort of rubbish excuses.now his mew 1st is now 3rd.for hw long r we going 2 remain trophyless?after sellin henry, hleb, flamini,& scatering d invincibles & giving us players who cn pocess 4 90mins witout scorin goals.soon we will lose fab&rvp.wake up arsenal, get us anoda coach

  • albanian gooner says:

we will win tonight dont worry gooners. These days watching Almunia how “well”is doing his job, i asked my self, where the f..ck is Manone?! What is Wenger going to do with him? When we needed him he did the job well, one mistace he did and now we dont see his face anymore! Almunia did apsolutely everything wrong and still is playing. Ohhhh Arsen Wenger, u are doing a “great” job there, i just dont know why i am still a normal man considering what u are doing to me!

  • old timer says:

Its obvious to me that Almunia wont get dropped no matter how poorly he plays because every time Cesc is injured Almunia is made captain.Has anyone else noticed that he never seems to look his defenders in the eye,he just gets a sulky expression on his face.
Where is Mannone? Why not give Fabianski another chance. My God he could’nt be any worse than the Spaniard who wants to play for England.
With Bendtner on the bench(again) I fear a repeat of our last two games because Mr Wenger is not going to be proved wrong no matter the cost to Arsenals reputation

  • Papaa Slim says:

Please wenger, play Eboue or even TV5 upfront because we must conceive goals, so its better we play to score more. A match is won by he who scores more.

  • Olawale says:

keep the faith guys,we will come good at the end of the day.i believe if we win today we are not going to stop and i know the boys want to win badly.

somehow i think this is going to be our day cos evry team now see us as under-dogs. all i’m asking is the team should fight and concentrate for 90mins and don’t concede a goal at all. we need to score first and i mean early.

    TONIGHT IS THE NIGHT!!!!.

  • Pat Rice says:

Most of your comments are true, I really don’t understand some gooner fans when they say Arsenal can’t complete with other big clubs when it comes to signing players…… I mean what the HELLL!!!!!, Arsenal is one of THE ELITE footballclubs in THE WORLD, we’ve qualified to the UEFA Champions League Knock out for ten years in a row and only Real Madrid can match that, and then fans say we don’t have any money yet we pay Theo 60 grand(don’t get me wrong he’s talented but it has yet to show). Wenger is a great manager but he should have brought Edin Dzeko(proved that he can score against Manu) and Chamakh is no better than Dudu, hell Eden Hazard would be twice a better buy than him plus he’d make a nice Cesc replacement.

  • aj says:

If Nic is only half fit he should play the first half when the physical contest is greater.I fear Denilson will play as Wenger is unlikely to play Diaby twice in three days.I think the game may be a low scoring draw but let’s hope we can win it.Come on Arsenal.

  • Z KWT Gunner says:

8 / 10 Arsenal fans piss me off at this point in the season….

  • segun says:

we don’t need anymore complains about injury from wenger because when the transfer window was open he refused signing new strikers all we were hearing was that there money…..please wenger should try and save us from this trophy less embarrassment.

  • Damien says:

    @ Hunter:

It gets annoying everyday, because youre expecting Arsenal to sign a player everyday. And then when the day ends youre frustrated that they havent bought that striker you expected.

The transfer window has been closed for nearly 2 weeks now. The annoyance should of lasted 24 hours from the deadline. Surely anything more is silly. Theres nothing that can be done. Not now, nor everyday from now on.

LOL @ “it gets annoying everyday.”

Tell me, if we dont win the Premier League, will you 5 months later say “we didnt win the Premier League, this just gets annoying everyday” ??

    lol

    • Hunter says:

The more we play and look to have no solutions the more annoying the situation is. Mate, if he knew Nic was not fit that meant we had 1 fit striker. What we are uncovering as time has passed is that Arsene was more short sighted than we thought. I was under the impression Nic was fit but obviously he is not. Therefore the situation is MORE annoying than it was when I thought Nic was fully fit or would be very shortly. We are stuck with no strikers and a midget playing up front who is visibly very annoyed at being shoved into a role where he is not familiar. We are also stuck with one of the worst goalkeepers to ever pull on the shirt. Why should we be in this position? If we are going to not go into the market for a keeper then let’s at least let Wojciech Szczesny have a go instead of going out on loan to a lower division side. This kid is the best shot stopper in the squad but he gets no chance because of some inexplicable loyalty to someone who just isn’t good enough. If you don’t know who Wojciech Szczesny is you can see him here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mOY63kPwFYo&feature=player_embedded

  • Davi says:

I dont look forward to watching us play again with arshavin up front in the middle.
We should really take a chance on bendtner. If he gets another knock, arshavin has shown he can shoulder the burden against the lesser teams and eduardo cant be a million miles away from fitness.
If this game goes wrong then there really is nothing to look forward to in the league.
At least if we win we can still put in some kind of challenge.

  • brian says:

first almunia will be watchin world cup lyk me while his country will be at the workd cup.we cannot afford to stay with a goalkeeper with no international cap.

  • timmy the gunner says:

    Guys..

I am as dissapointed as you all are, but let’s try to stay positive.

We need to win today so please send out some positive vibes and let’s get the W. I can also sit here and bash the team and bash the coach, but it leads to nothing. We have 2 of the top 4 teams in europe in front of us in the league and Arsenal fans are complainng little school girls. maybe no trophy this year, you know what? Tough $hit!! there can only be one winnner and a bunch of sore losers. We are not light-years away from winning it all boys. Our main striker has been injured for most of the season, i would love to see Chelsea without Drogba and Man UTD without Rooney..

Players are getting better and some are getting worse during the course of the season. it looks like our midfield trio (Cesc, Diaby, Song) finally is starting to click. A new keeper and Chamakh to join in the summer, it is not that bad after all.

I also want us to win titles, but for god’s sake guys just because we won a few trophys years back that does not mean that we should win it every year. let’s get behind our team and focus on the 3 points today instead of bashing players and the coaching staff.

    COME ON YOU GUNNERS!!

    • Hunter says:

The problem is that we have gone yet another year without addressing glaring weaknesses. We have no guarantee that Chamakh will join and based on track record Arsene is just blowing smoke up us. Based on past patterns we will likely not address anything and then Arsene will act surprised yet again when we fall apart. I like to stay positive but we have also got to be honest with ourselves. Today he has come out and talked about how we can’t afford to buy big names etc. Well with 40 million in the coffers we could afford to buy anyone we want almost. He is making excuses again and as a supporter I do not appreciate being lied to.
