David Seaman: I don’t think Cesc Fabregas will leave if Arsenal don’t win a trophy this season

Submitted by Jeffrey on February 13, 2010 – 4:00 11 Comments

Former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman believes the future of Cesc Fabregas doesn’t depend on what Arsenal will win this season as a captain should be loyal to the club regardless of silverware.

The now 46-year old added how the Spaniard will have a similar career to Patrick Vieira and stay with the Gunners for a long time.

Seaman said:

I don’t think he will leave if Arsenal don’t win a trophy this season – you don’t get that sort of thing from your captain.

I think Cesc will be there for quite a while, as Patrick did, coming towards the end of your career, and then moving on.

[The Liverpool win] puts them right back in the title race. I would put some money on Arsenal – if they play the way we know they can do they will beat anybody, no matter who it is. If they can get that going consistently, they’ve got a great chance.

  • David says:

If Arsenal can put on from here on in – a good run of results- we could really pressure Chelsea and Manu

Not saying Arsenal would win the EPL but if the top two slips, Arsenal could be there to take advantage

    cesc fabregas is going nowhere!
n especially his reason of leaving arsenal being their failure to win silverware- that’s NEVER going to happen!!
he’s committed to the club n when he leaves,(if he leaves) he’llmake sure it’ll e in a resectable manner

Having read Seaman’s remarks, the words that stick in my mind are “if they can get that going consistently”.
Since WW2 the Club has never held on to a Championship and has been noted for losing against teams they were certain to beat. Conversely, they would rise to the occasion and win magnificently against all odds.
I would like to think that the remaining games this season will result in a surge of wins but the record book worries me.

  • Zoe says:

Cesc wont leave us because of not winng trophies
when we win the premier league he’ll get to lift the cup, its not like he’s ever going to get to do that at barca if they win la liga, hes not even garaunteed to get starting every game at barcelona

  • Herbert says:

Win or not win, Fabregas will leave because it is for his own interest and because he wants to win titles.
He will leave unless he has total insurance and guaranty that Wenger and the board will make significant recruitment in the summer.
If he was English I would not be surprised if he thought about staying at Arsenal… but the boy is Spanish and most significantly Catalan and Barcelona as you know, is everything. Let’s wait and see but I won’t blame him if he leaves.

  • Awaash says:

I hope cesc will stay if we don’t win trophy dis season forget Barca our captain

  • Adebowale says:

Cesc wil wait until he lifts at least 1 trophy as capn b4 he can dcide 2 move on. At least he cant get 2 do dat in barca, not even in d nxt 10 yrs.

  • Awaash says:

Arsene don’t sel cesc & sign 2 spanish players so dat u keep him forever as captain let silvestra, sanga, almunia & fabiaski go 4 free & sign Awale who is in kenya.
