Arsene Wenger ahead of Porto, “The minimum requirement is not to lose the game”

Making sure not to concede any goals. This is the message Arsene Wenger has sent to his players ahead of next week’s Champions League game away at Porto.

With the Gunners missing Andrey Arshavin for the game, the Frenchman highlighted the importance of making sure not to lose heavily and be out of the tie before the Emirates game.

The Arsenal boss said:

The minimum requirement is not to lose the game and be out of the tie.

A clean sheet will do, but we are team who will not hide – we want to play. However, we want to make sure defensively we are okay.

From the outside, sometimes you are seen as favourites, but that does not matter.

Porto have been consistently in the Champions League and you know you will get a tough game, so I will not be surprised.

A win is enough for arsenal to go through

Wouldn`t surprise me if Wenger chose a 4-4-2 formation with Rosicky, Song, Fabregas and Diaby forming the mid field and Eduardo and Bendtner up front.

  • Pebbles says:

Arsene won’t change the formation mid-season. But with Arshavin & Van Persie out and Eduardo recovering, Bendtner becomes the target man with 2 of Nasri/Rosicky/Walcott on the wings. Those players are much better at tracking back in their own half than the usual wingers and could give Cesc and Diaby more freedom to go forward. Cesc and Diaby are Arsenal’s most dangerous players at the moment, they could benefit from playing with wingers who have the mindset of midfielders and not forwards.
