Samir Nasri: We lack experience at the highest level but Chelsea and Manchester United don’t

Submitted by Renzo on February 19, 2010 – 4:00 24 Comments

Arsenal midfielder Samir Nasri has joined team mate Andrey Arshavin in questioning the experience of the Gunners. After the Russian declared that they lack class, Nasri is quoted as saying by The Sun that the squad lacks the experience needed to compete at the highest level.

Having lost twice against Chelsea and Manchester United, Arsenal are six points from the top of the table and have just suffered a 2-1 defeat away at Porto in the Champions League with the blame falling on the head of goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski.

Speaking on this season, the 22-year old Frenchman said:

This season we’ve had bad results in big games. We lack experience at the highest level.

Teams like United and Chelsea have more experience and can deal with these games.

The Gunners will face Sunderland this Saturday as they will try to keep their title hopes alive knowing that their rivals will both be in action in away tricky games, with Chelsea away at Wolves and Manchester United away against Everton.

nasri doesnt deserve to talk cos he’s so useless in games..he was the worst player yesterday apart from denilson and fabianski

  • Aussie Jack says:

Nasri is right of course but experience at the highest level costs money at the highest level and rightly or wrongly that`s not Arsenal`s game. Some money will be spent in the summer months, a goalkeeper will be one, if he`s available. Yes, the French striker will join us but I can`t see 20 million plus players ever wearing the Gunners shirt.
Waiting for Walcott, Ramsey, Wilshere, Merida and so many others to mature is a long way
off if ever, probably another three years on average. Should Cesc leave it will have to be for big bucks and only then will Wenger open his purse. Mind you, with the financial state of many clubs there could be some bargins around and Wenger will be in his element.

  • John Muhindo says:

Jack you are right; indeed to have experienced players needs a lot of money, secondly arsenal players rarely score from far. which is not in Manchester and chelsea. There are cases where you see that a player of arsenal would just strick directly in the goal but insteed a back-pass which has costed arsenal so many games to win. I think wenger should also train them to score from far when there is that opportunity. I know see Rosicky, Arshavin and Fabregas trying to do that when there is crisis at the last moment.

  • Ravenous says:

F#$% off Nasri. At least, show some decent game rather than talking. You are the one of the dull players in Arsenal at the moment.

  • Jason says:

In my opinion nasri is one of the better players, but when the midfield cant play neither can your forwards! Rosicky has been our best player the past few games! But we are really lacking some creativity and gile! Wenger needs to stop with this blind faith he has in certain players because that could be the decider of whether we win the title or not and if not whether we get into champions league

  • Aussie Jack says:

Manchester United and Chelsea have one single factor that Arsenal don`t have, an `animal` in the middle. Rooney and Drogba are beasts from the jungle, they have animal like instincts and take no prisoners. Unless Chamakh (?spelling) is of the same blood thirsty kind then he may just as well stay at Bordeux. Of course the `animal` is supported by the pack immediately around him and I`m quite sure we already have that in place at The Grove. Van Persie and Arshavin eiter side of the `animal` with Rosicky,Fabregas and Diaby in support and we`ll see a Arsenal reborn. Now, “where is the `animal`?

  • leah says:

How many seasons does Nasri (and other players) want to gain experience? If for sure they lack experience, they should not be in the Arsenal. AW should consign Nasri as his ilk to the bench or loan them out to acquire experience.

  • christian says:

I would sell Nasri in a heartbeat if a proper offer would come in. I would like to see a massive clear-out:

For example these geezers could just be sold: Almunia, Nasri, Fabianski, Denilson, Senderos, Eduardo, Campbell, Vela, Eboue, Emmanuel-Thomas, Mérida, Silvestre,

These guys I would loan out or just leave them into the reserves: Mannone, Wilshere, Szczesny, Djourou, Walcott, Eastmond, Traore, Coquelin

These guys our good and should keep their place in the team:Vermaelen, Ramsey, Song, Sagna, Arshavin, Gallas, Van Persie, Fàbregas, Clichy,

Back-up players (sold or not; who cares?): Gibbs, Bendtner, Rosicky, Diaby

I would like to see next season at least:1 goalie (Lloris) 2 defenders(Subotic and some good english lad), a defensive midfielder (the ultimate dream would be de rossi) 2 midfielders (Kroos, Gourcuff), 2-4 wideplayers (Krasic, etc.) 3 proper strikers (For example: Benzema, Babel, Lukaku).

Who do you think can’t make the cut? Who should be brought in? Maybe you have better, more realistic choises in mind than I do.

    • Davi says:

      Stop playing FM.
Its touching the support you show for the players btw. JET has barely played, eduardo has just come back from a shocking injury and done pretty well for the most part etc etc.
You cant demand instant success from the youngsters.

    • Chris says:

Or sell the whole team, quicker, no? :)

    • gooner says:

This is not championship manager mate. Arsenal football is dependent on their repetitive training and players knowing each other. a complete change would be detrimental to team chemistry. There is no guarantee new players would gel instantly. From your list only FOUR should really be dropped out: Fabianski, Denilson, Senderos and Silvestre with TWO or possibly THREE new players. An imposing striker and a confident keeper with a backup defender the outside bet.

  • mutiu jimoh says:

Nasri shld keep shut and play well 4 d team. He is one of our dull players at d moment. Inexperience players cant play 4 Arsenal, they ve beating teams like villa , liverpool even they defeated man u & chelsea last season so which experience is he talking about, if ARSENAl fail to win anything this season all d players & Arsene will be blame and 4 CESC if he wants to go and sit on d bench at barca like hleb fine arsenal av a lot of ball distributor which he know.

  • GD says:

    Hi,

First of all, is Nasri in his best level? No, he has to be criticized for the defeats on matches with MU, Cski and Porto.I don’t deny he is very creative but ,after his return from injury, he has now not been in good tempo and his final passes and or dribbles are being taken away by opponents.
He is very selfish and Arshavin too. Arshavin has again to be liable for MU defeat since he missed 3 or 4 great goal chances due to his selfishness.Nasri is always missing goals

So, lack of experience and no class seem covers for their poor performances of Nasri and Arshavin. Nasri should look up the improvement in Nani. By the way, Almunia is usually expressing self defensive mechanism for his costly eorrs.

In my end, I am very bored with their pretexts.

    Thanks,

    • supasam8 says:

how long did it take nani to come good. nasri is already a much better player than nani is, i personally think you’re an idiot.

second, nasri is a central player. so he’s being played out of position, that’s not the excuse though. he plays very well when he can come inside, interchange and get into the play.

who do we have that can be a target for his passes, surely very few of you can say rosicky has been alot more impressive than samir, granted he’s had a few better final balls and shots, he still hasn’t been showcasing scintillating wing play.

they both play very tight wingplay and really like to come inside, that’s why when we ideally have robin up there they can play beautiful one-two’s

i think it’s unfair and harsh of you to criticize the play of one player when it is so clearly the entire team that is struggling to find itself. when you play football you impose your own will on the opponent. arsenal don’t know exactly what to impose right now, i believe that is what they talk about experience for, not in age. but everyone in the team needs to be on the same page.

if any of you can sit here and say that his play has been dreadful and i deserves to be dropped i have to question your eyesight.

  • Muchai says:

It’s so hard as an Arsenal fan to see the players openly critising themselves and its them who shuld improve the team.guy like nasri n arshavin have been below par these season. They say they lack xperience when it comes to big games n only last season they pulled massive wins against bth chelsea n man u. They need to change their style of play..

  • Toski says:

I tink nasri is very stupid to say. Wat is he playing, noting

  • Kabiitov says:

Its a great pleasure its Nasri who has said that. But we need him to tell us when he will be experienced to start scoring goals in order to overcome the pressure. He should at least rate experience with commitment towards individual success

  • eddoen says:

Wenger lack experince with youngster, big arsenal problem

  • james says:

just sack wenger.and bring in someone who does ‘know’ like hiddink.

wengers excuse every year is the same, one more year. one more year to mature.

hes out of excuses and on borrowed time. stan will see to that.

  • aidanB says:

Christian- you sound like a bit of an idiot. For a start Emannuel-Thomas and Merida are 2 of our very top prospects. Secondly, you’re transfer targets hardly sound like Arsenal targets under Wenger do they?- Benzema and De Rossi – yeah right, dream on. Gibbs and Diaby are likely to go on to be huge players, and Rosicky and Bendtner are valuable members of the squad. We can’t have a full squad all in the class of Fabregas, Van Persie and Arshavin- that’s just not football. Agree with you Aussie Jack that an animal up front would be great, don’t know that there are many out there though- maybe by stumping up £30 mill plus, like Utd and Chelsea did for Rooney and Drogba – probably not that likely is it?

  • Gunner says:

Nasri thinks that Arsenal do not have enough experience to go up against Chelsea and MU!
To make sense out of that it would be great to ask him does he include himself in that lack of experienced group?
He started against MU, and against Chelsea too I think! The fact that he started against them suggests that the manager felt that Mr Nasri ‘did’ have the experience to warrant a start! My recollection of those games is that he was one of the guys who did not really perform!
Maybe its time for him to go and ‘get’ the kind of experience that a player needs to line up against quality teams like that. I have one or two suggestions for him.
How about improving your endurance level so you can get back on defense a bit faster, and then break forward faster when you win possession!
How about mixing it a bit physically with the opposing midfield! How about shutting down dangerous opponents by ‘whatever means necessary’ early in the game! He and the rest of Arsenal should know by now that MU always come out of the blocks at full throttle. There is a reason for that and it’s because they know that if they score early and first against Arsenal they are home and dry! Last year’s CL SEMI and this year at the Emirates are examples!
If you don’t have experience, learn it!
