Theo Walcott, “We’re just six points behind Chelsea. It’s looking good”

Submitted by Renzo on February 23, 2010 – 3:00 15 Comments

Arsenal midfielder Theo Walcott was speaking after the Sunderland game on the title hopes of the Gunners and also on a personal level. According to the youngster, six points from Chelsea are not much and puts Arsenal in a good position ahead of the final games of the season.

On a personal level, the 20-year old added how he is slowly getting back to normal fitness after suffering injuries, although he still needs to improve the final ball.

Walcott said:

People tend to write us off. We stay in the background and do our own thing. We’re just six points behind Chelsea. It’s looking good. It was frustrating in the early stages of the season with results not going our way, but it’s coming together now.

I’m starting to get there now, it’s just getting that final ball sorted. I’m not looking too far towards the World Cup at all to be honest – I’m just concentrating on Arsenal with all the big games ahead of us because I’ve not really featured much for my club this season.

I just need to stay fully fit and if I do hopefully I’ll have a chance of getting on the plane.

walcott concentrate in training, and let the real players do the interviews.

    • sixx pac says:

Geo shut up and let people with common sense make comments. Its a post match interview. He was asked a question. What should he do, not talk?

    • PAKMAN325 says:

Geo, Eboue had a sterling performance, but Walcott easily could have been man of the match.

      Think before posting.

      • Davi says:

He was nowhere near MoM, one of our worst players. He played like eboue used to a couple of years ago when he was still getting used to the forward positions.
It is frustrating when players who aren’t playing well constantly come out with comments to the media, and no they don’t have to keep talking. They can stay away from the press if they wish.
You know he was on even worse form before when he came out with the comment about how hes now faster than henry.
It’s like if fabianski had come out after the porto game and said, “it’s great to be getting some match-time”

  • Daniel says:

Theo good speaking and keep training

  • Deji says:

Geo, you are stupid, allow reasonable people to talk. Theo keep it up, you will get there.

  • pita says:

Wenger should now avoid Fabiaski and Silvester, to play other options. If you play too hard and a fellow just let the balls in then that’s rubbish. Let Fabiaski and Silvester stick to Carling cup, if they have lost, their chances are gone, don’t risk again with them.

  • Pat Rice says:

Theo’s positive attitude is good but he has to watch out from being too overly confident. I heard a rumour that Barca want to sell Thierry Henry, I think Le Boss should take this oppotunity and snap him up, it will only help us and our young up n coming talent like Theo, Bendtner, Vela etc.

  • The_gunner_4ever says:

He is such a fast player, he knws where to be at rite time. But he cant pass and cross or shoot.. BUT the bright side is he can learn these, you cant learn to run realy fast or be a natural reader of the game.. You have to be gifted with that, and i think THEO will come gud sooner or later, one day for sure..

  • Shaban in KIGALI..Rwanda says:

GEO is really stupid he doesn’t know what is talking about, if he doesn’t beleive in Walcot for u we do, we know one day he will be back to his best fom right???

  • aj says:

There’s nothing wrong with post much interviews. It’s just that in them some players tend to big themselves and the team up too much. It’s almost as if they are trying to convince themselves. When you’ve won something then you have the right to talk yourself up.Some players and the manager should listen to Cesc.He always talks sense, is honest and shows humility. He is a credit to the club.

  • Vijay says:

It’ll only be “looking good” if and when we apply hindsight at some unknown point in the future. Not now. Not six points (plus goal difference) behind at a time when Theo is playing like a gibbon (albeit a pacy one).

Equally, we are not “looking good” unless we do something extraordinary. The extraordinary being winning most, if not all, of our remaining eleven matches.

So please Theo, quieten down and contribute … and less of the hubris and bravado that normally ends in tears.

  • Gunner says:

Afraid I have to back Geo all the way on this one! Why? because he is 100% right, stop talking and crank up the work effort! You do not hear too much talking coming from Old Trafford round about now! Why? Because Ferguson has them focusing on the ‘job’ at hand.
These Arsenal players need to learn that you ‘do’ first, ‘talk’ second! Yes he answered a question and that’s okay but qualify it please by saying that extra work and team effort is the only way to make it happen.
I agree with him! Given the spate of defensive disasters we witnessed recently, and at the end of all that to be only 6 back with 11 to play is pretty damn good!!! Unbelievable actually!!! In prior years MU would have taken full advantage and be 20 points clear of Arsenal by now!!!
The Divine creator is offering a helping hand that quite honestly Arsenal do not deserve!!!! Given the shocking defending that went on over that run.
Don’t get me wrong, I am a Gunner through and through and the more breaks Arsenal get, the better as far as I am concerned!!!
However I am realistic enough to recognize that they got ‘lucky’

  • Geo says:

Well sorry for sharing my opinion i am just tired of players talking the talk, but not walking the walk.

  • Gunner says:

You do not owe anyone an apology for sharing your opinion it’s your fundamental right, whether I agree or disagree is irrelevant!
I can’t second that one enough guy! I too am absolutely fed up of Arsenal players talking it up! What makes any of them an authority on the future? If they had stood up to the MU then I would feel differently! But they didn’t do so. In fact they were a ‘no show’ they ran and hid! What’s up with that?
Time to ‘DOOOOOOO’ something! and the first opportunity is at the Britannia Stadium? We will see!!!!!!
