One of the major problems of Arsenal this season has been the lack of confidence goalkeepers have brought to the side. Both Manuel Almunia and Lukasz Fabianski committed mistakes during this campaign and it seems Russian midfielder Andrey Arshavin has the answer to the Gunners’ problems in goal.
Speaking on his Russian colleague Igor Akinfeev, the 28-year old declared he is one of the best goalkeepers in the world and will be the best the day Juventus’ Gianluigi Buffon retires from the game. Whether Arsene Wenger agrees with the player is all to be seen of course.
Arshavin said:
From all of the modern-day goalkeepers I’ve seen, I liked the Dutchman Hans van Breukelen – the 1988 European Championship winner.
When (Juventus keeper Gigi) Buffon retires, the best goalkeeper will be Igor Akinfeev.
