Emmanuel Eboue, “Theo Walcott can become the best player in England”
Slowly making his return to football after injury, many are asking whether England’s Theo Walcott will fly to South Africa with the National team this summer. Team-mate Emmanuel Eboue believes the 20-year old can do it, adding how if he keeps on working hard, he can become the best player in England.
Eboue said:
If Walcott works hard, he can become the best player in England. He is very young but he is playing for his place in the England team so he must work hard. If he continues to play like he is now then he can go to the World Cup.
Meanwhile, manager Arsene Wenger was a little bit more cautious on the development of Walcott, saying how the player is constantly under heavy pressure by the media, who always speculate on his inclusion in the World Cup squad.
Speaking to the Gunners’ official website, Wenger said:
The World Cup is not today – it is in June. The problem is that everyone has the national team in their mind and… you want everybody to be on top today. It’s terrible pressure. But that’s the modern media.

Walcott is under no more media pressure than any other (potential) national team player! Outside Goonerland he is usually invisible… For me – 2 senarios: either Walcott will slowly develop into a great player (the 2011-12 season) or he will continue to fit the cruel ‘Forest Gump’ label (brilliant speed but no brain). I honestly can’t choose. I have always thought it a shame that he didn’t spend a loan period in the Championship to hone tackling and passing skills – and gain confidence to see opportunities to score.
He’s not?
I was on a website yesterday and the front page of the Arsenal news had:
1. Walcott to forget injury frustration
2. Theo left out of England U21 squad
3. AW: Theo under ‘terrible pressure’
4. Walcott: We’re looking good for title
5. Walcott waiting on England call-up
6. Walcott is getting there, says Wenger
7. Thomas not doubting Arsenal progress
It’s not a joke and no, it’s not Theo’s official website.
No pressure eh?
Don’t you think he brings it on himself sometimes as well?
Talking up how he’s faster than henry now for example.
Unfortunately if you want to be a great player you have to deal with pressure.
That said I’ve never agreed with the idea he’s all speed and not a footballer. He’s shown plenty of times he has excellent ball control and *can* finish chances extremely well.
The trouble is he’s young and most young players are inconsistent and make mistakes.
Shouldnt be making so many of them in our 1st team however imo.
Theo could be great if he worked on his strength, first touch and final ball/finishing more, his pace and runs are excellent and if he just gets the other stuff right than he really could become one of Englands best.
lanesra you are the only person with no brain so please leave walcott alone…. he does more 4 arsenal than u do
Shaban, lanesra was just stating an opinion. Correct or not, you cannot insult people on this website so please consider this a warning.
People want to compare walcott with lennon forgeting that walcott is just 20 and aron is 22. Aron 2 years ago is not as good as walcott of today. With determination and focus walcot will be england best player.
I get suprised when arsenal fans start a busing one another on the website because of the performance of the players. What if you are now the coach? I think you would chase all players and remain an Island. Try to keep discpline, otherwise soccer may lose sense.
Can’t see Theo making it to the world cup. If everyone is fit then Lennon, Wright Phillips, Beckham and even Adam Johnson are in my book all ahead of him.
Walcott, England, Wenger and whoever else shouldn’t think about WC2010 for Walcott. He should worry about playing as well as he can in the games he gets for the club.
He is 20 years old and other than an oft brought up hat trick v Croatia what seems ages ago, it isn’t like he’s been playing stellar football over the last year (or even playing much due to injury).
Realism points to him looking for 2014 and 2018 when he will be in his footballing prime. It would be great if he lights up the rest of the season and gets a pick (for both Arsenal and himself) but at this point, he should just worry about helping the club out as much as possible and if that gets him a nod, good on him.
I’m confident that THEO will make it to the 2010 WC.. And now he has just come back from injury… give hime 3 consecutive games and he’ll be back to his best.
Theo Walcott! I think the lad on current form is definately out of the world cup. What worries me though and what i think only AW can answer is why has his development stalled?!..I cant see an iota of change or maturity in his game!..potential or talent is definately there but there is no evidence his understanding the game at grand scale ..like say slow down…variation in attacking game….even his positional sense while other team mates have the ball is terrible…!yes!…and then the crosses are goal kicks!…Theo game is all still about impulsive running direct route …and inevitably sometimes getting mixed up and forgetting the ball….May be AW should tell him to try to enjoy the game as well…that may make him try out his natural side of invention and learning and coping play patterns from his team mates….an example …do you notice how Ramsey’s game has changed since he arrived and now closely similar to Fabregas ..and look how far he has gone up the pecking order in midfiled…ofcourse walcott can choose the style that suits him best..in my mind ..he appears closer to adopt Thierry Henry style…which mimics his (or vise versa)….Henry used his pace intelligently by mixing it up with other variations of the game approach…..dont forget Henry also had to drop the sprinter mentality which took him no where earlier on..when he had just arrived!….i hope we get to see this kid reach his full potential…and i hope he eventually makes it to the world cup..but its going to be a tall order….he cant just talk himself into the team…nor will AW or all those gooner fans who describe with superlatives every liitle run as a great performance..no it isnt..and it wasnt against Sunderland..at least not to me
NO way Walcott will become the best player in England, no way…
I don’t see more than a speedy player…
Now, if you are talking about Ramsey, I can see real potential for greatness…
Jack wilshere will be the best english player of all time…theo will be the equivalent of ‘tito’ jackson.
