Mohamed Zidan: My agent told me Arsenal are interested in signing me

Submitted by James on March 10, 2010 – 14:00 27 Comments

After impressing in last January’s Africans Nations Cup, Mohamed Zidan was again under the spotlight after scoring for Egypt in last week’s friendly game against England, at Wembley. With his father revealing that Arsenal, Manchester United and Barcelona are all interested in signing his son, it was the player himself who confirmed the rumours.

Speaking after the Wembley game, the 28 year old is quoted as saying by The Daily Star that his agent told him Arsenal are interested and that he could be the first Egyptian player to play for the North London club.

He said:

My agent spoke to me after the game and told me about Arsenal’s interest. He asked me to try to impress them, and become the first Egyptian to play for the Gunners.

He’s quality, i think he’d suit our game perfectly! Just dont know how much truth there is in this rumour…

  • heffy says:

yeah the dude’s no spring chicken

  • Johnny Gooner says:

He is a top quality player, a real individualist, but back when he played in Denmark, there was some stuff going around that he wasnt much of a teamplayer and abit isolated, fx. not training with the rest of the team. I’m not sure how great he would fit in to the squad.

  • GUNNERS4LIFE says:

Zidan seems a better player. Honestly Chamakh does not impress me. You tube can probably confirm my view.

    • Craig86 says:

Neither player is any better than the ones we have, and neither of them is young enough to where they will improve…I think arsene is looking at chamakh for some depth in the height department…I see him playing behind bendtner in the pecking order as I don’t think he has the physical presence needed to stand up to towering epl defenders. He’s a 6′4″ stick man.

  • gloucester says:

I see him every week in german Bundesliga and though I don’t really think that Arsene Wenger reads this blog ;-) I would always disadvise to buy him.
He’s a Diva, not a teamplayer, selfish on and off the pitch and in general a very difficult character.
One reason (of the many) why I love Arsenal is (that after Adebayor) is gone there is no asshole in the team anymore. So, please Mr. Wenger, don’t do that.

  • Z KWT Gunner says:

I\d like to see you go live in Egypt and not be isolated and seem like the sshole you speak of… he’s a very good player and inventive up front….

    • gloucester says:

sorry, I don’t know what you mean with this egypt thing, mate.
you mean the cultural differences, or what?
Maybe he is struggling with that, okay, but I don’t care.
All I care about is having players in the Arsenal side that suit the Arsenal side, and me,
I really don’t think he is suitable.

      • 2liget says:

dont u think ur going 2 far with hiding racist remarks… and even if u werent dont u know that A W is probably the best man for making anyone better teamplayer… ex: RVP, Diaby,Ramsy”speedy recovery i hope” and even i see a bit emprovement with Bendtner tho he is talented hard headed onebut A W is getting thro that… ive seen Zidan in clup and international playing and Egyptian coach is giving him play maker rule in almost of the games and that made Zidan almost the reason for the 2008 african cup winning all the way and specially at last match with cameron and that was an assist tho he co6uld have scorded easily with his talented moves and u should also be aware that his national team is african cup winner 3 times at the row and ofcourse he was participating… one of the main things making me sad is that the team i love is the most team recieving injuries in the world … dont u remember at the beginning of Feb when the 3 tough games where about to begin and there was no healthy CF or even SS ! and now u reject a talented player like Zidan even tho u know he aint gonna be costing much as someone of his class

        • Craig86 says:

That’s what gloucester is saying…he doesn’t have the class that arsenal needs…not because of his race or nationality. I think he’s simply not good enough. And a disruptive influence in the locker room is the last thing we need.

        • gloucester says:

          @2liget:

oh come on, don’t be foolish.
there are so many players in our squad from many countries of the world, many black guys, guys from africa, brazilians, from mexico.
You think I would be an Arsenal supporter if i were a racist?
          get real, man

          • Chris says:

I always wondered why racism is always associated with Arsenal. What it is that makes people so susceptible to this subject?

            • gloucester says:

              haha,
              you know what?
I don’t know about England, but here in Germany they have a strange twist on this topic. They say that Wenger is racist towards english players and this is why there aren’t so many of them in the squad.
I’ve once read an interview where they asked him (before a PL match) why there is not a single english player in the starting line-up?
And he answered something like “Oh, really, there isn’t? I didn’t even notice. I don’t look at their passports. I look what they are doing on the pitch and in training.”

  • summer breez says:

He should present us with strength as he is experienced he would be adequate cover providing the conditions are right such as budget and required cover elsewhere on the team where necessary
We have bought some new players was wondering if any could be added to the squad

  • Arshadin says:

I was hoping that AW will lure Lloris from Lyon…

  • Daniel says:

It is not racist at all.He may be a good player.but he doesnot fit or rather, he doesnot have the class u need to have to be an arsenal player.Wenger should not sign him.He deserves to go to Manutd.

  • 2liget says:

these days issues r always get changed when confrunted like and i quote in a way “he is an asshole amd a diva” amd then to be changed to not a racist and another with “neither of them r good refering to Zidan and Chamakh” to “disruptive influence in the locker room” how in the world did u know that this is correct as in the comment before u that if u read … he brought Egypt 3 following African cup of nation and he doesnt play alone he is with the team in the locker room and he wasnt scoring only he plays a playmaker rule with Egypt when confrunting well estableshed teams… and he doesnt score only he makes assists as well… u know ? i know a word that defines the mean to understand that ofcourse if u want to “IF U WANT TO BE UNDERSTOOD… LISTEN”

  • Choice says:

Zidane is a good player and not selfish,he plays with team…Wenger is not a racist to england,do u expect him to put someone who’s not playing up to expectation on the pitch? NO…So pls forget about the racist talk

  • Jason says:

No way, he can’t be racist.
Look at the reserves…. How many English players are there?
Theo Walcott, he is an English, aren’t he??
But starting place should be given according to how he performs and how the strategy goes.
Not nationality or wat so ever.

If Chamakh is coming and Zidan going to be sign, then how many strikers do we have?
RVP, Chamakh, Zidan, Eduardo, Bendtner, Vela… 6strikers?
    I don’t think its possible.

  • Alric says:

is Chamakh really comin to us or is it another media spoof….wats the proof besides the media circus saying it is but there is no word from Arsene confirming it….

  • RAZZ says:

Well Firstly I am an Egyptian Gunners Fan so I’ll be more of a pro Zidan :) ) … but that is not only why I do want Zidan in Arsenal. Arsenal at the moment has lots of Strikers however still lack the sense of competition between each other.

Moreover, the guy is equally adept to playing as an Attacking mid and he is well known for his impressive assists as much as he is known for his goals.. He has impressive dribbling, technique, speed, aggression, and shooting.

Regarding his personality, well I guess he well admired by his teammates. May be he wasn’t mature that much back in the days when he was in Denmark, but I think it is all quite different now in Germany.

I am pretty sure that Zidan would do wonders for the Gunners if he joined next season !

As for the racism issue … That is just funny ^^.

    Cheers all !
