Denilson: Hull City is a great opportunity to show what I can do

Submitted by Renzo on March 11, 2010 – 14:15 19 Comments

With Alex Song suspended, Aaron Ramsey injured and captain Cesc Fabregas to most likely miss the game, Hull City is the perfect opportunity for midfielder Denilson to show that he can still be considered as a regular in the Arsenal midfield. A very disappointing season saw the 22-year old become Arsene Wenger’s fourth choice in midfield but speaking to Goal.com UK, Denilson believes next Saturday’s game can change this.

The Brasilian also added how the Champions League is a possibility for the Gunners, especially after demolishing Porto by five goals to nil, a game which helped Arsenal find the beautiful football they so much like to play and enjoy.

Hull on Saturday will be a very difficult game. I think Cesc and Alex Song will not play so it’s very important for us to focus now. We have just nine games left to go in the Premier League so I have a great opportunity to show what I can do.

I think we can win the Champions League this year. The 5-0 win against Porto was an amazing game and we’re now in a position that we’re enjoying playing well. But we’re now focused on Saturday because it’s a very important game. We have a lot of games: we played last Saturday, against Porto and then again this weekend. We’re physically fine – a bit tired – but all we think about is this opportunity to enjoy playing.

It is good if you’re given that chance, but son please don’t mess it up.

  • venky says:

I don’t know what is that he is going to show that he had not shown us yet. He is skillful no doubt, otherwise Wenger wouldn’t have signed him in the first place, but he simply lacks the commitment others like TV has. Any ways hope he doesn’t screw up once again.

  • Chris says:

I have enormous respect for Denilson as a man, for his background and so on, but still consider him a weak player. Hopefully he can prove me wrong.

    • messi says:

Agree with the background situation, living hard, a common unfortunate thing in brazil, but i honestly think his a very good player he is vital in a way when diaby isn’t in the team, he breaks up play and simply passes, that is needed in this team. Just watched some videos of him earlier in the season against united away, liverpool away, celtic at home, he was incredible, and that was when he was playing very good, on form too, its just at the moment he has been getting injured alot, rushing back to the team, not alot of match fitness and the fans keep on criticizing him hard regardless of what happens. The same thing what they had been saying about sagna and clichy and now look at them two, the fact is denilson will be an excellent player in a few seasons time and the qualities between him and felipe melo are very similar if anything they will improve and mould in to melo, Dont get me wrong melo is planets away and better than denilson ofcourse but he will get there very very soon. I strongly believe that, and all you have to do is just watch melo and watch denilson on youtube very very similar and we all know when an arsenal player who we want to improve so bad does improve he becomes incredible and VITAL, this is denilson in the making…… the new Felipe Melo, you guys just watch.

  • fab says:

son, do your talking on the pitch. i remember last time he made similar comments he played terribly, without commitment. mistakes are forgivable – a lack of passion to play for your club is not.

    • Chris says:

The last time he spoke he said we are no longer boys and that was before the Chelsea game I think, a bit foolish.

But I see nothing wrong in today’s interview, he’s stating a fact which is in fact that he cannot fail against Hull, since Diaby-Song-Cesc are all ahead of him in the starting line-up.

    • Pat says:

Im actually quite shaken at the thought of him playing!!

  • Damn_Gallas says:

he is not fourth choice… he is fifth!!!
Fabregas, Song, Diaby, Ramsey and Denilson!!!!
But if you add in Nasri and then he is sixth..
And if he does not improve.. then Eastmond will be ahead of him and he will be seventh…
When Jay Thomas is back after his successful loan then denilson would be eighth…

  • ozed says:

    Wow Damn-Gallas,

I see you know how to count.
    Keep it up.

  • migaloo says:

    Pass it, side ways!!!!

  • Robespierre says:

‘I have a great opportunity to show what I can do…’
    unfortunately (very) true…

  • Pebbles says:

If I were Arsene I’d bring in more Brazilians: I love to hear players at the highest level say they enjoy playing the game.

  • Jason says:

Well, he may do the talking now.
But we would like to see it on the pitch…
He is not showing anything special yet, but with Bendtner performance against Porto.
It may help to motivate him abit…
How good can it be? We will see…. =)

  • dutchgooner says:

i don’t denilson has performed bad all the time for arsenal. ofcourse i didn’t like his performances against manu and chelsea. i think we forget how hard working he was. It’s a hype that people start to talk about he pass side ways and don’t got a good workrate. but i think he just lost his form. he used to be working harder. now it’s look like he lost pace and takes to many touches to controle the ball. I used to like him because of his skill to pass the ball without taking a touch. players like diaby and song take more touches. if you dont take that touch the tempo is higher. but now denilson doesn’t put his hearth in. i see no passion. very sad. But i think he will come back and perform good. diaby song bendtner eboue all done it. only denilson needs to proof himself.

look at this vid people ( i know videos don’t show you the bad things bad take a look)

  • Herbert says:

Well Denilson, there is your chance…
Enough of the talking and make sure you come through and perform…

We have about 10 games left…
I will throw myself and say 30 points which would make us champions whatever happened with the rest of the league…

We still have to meet Tottenham ( Wankers!!! Oooops , sorry) and Man City… so 6 points possible… but if we can get 3 or even 2 points from the confrontations, that would be swell… And I think that we would still be champions…

  • Arshadin says:

Any players that came into Arsenal has undergone a massive trial, medical and physical training. You will not be offered any contracts if you dont meet the standards and the qualities required by AW to suit the football of Arsenal.
So Denilson is a kind of player that AW knows best that can fits into his squad and never fails to keep that standards and the qualities. He did scores and played well when he is in good form.So does everybody else…But the injuries have put him to battle for his fitness.

  • Z KWT Gunner says:

his time will come. he’s good too but still a kid in his attitude…

  • Eric Ramirez says:

The little that i have seen Denilson play has not been much because of his injuries but when i do he stands out more than any other mid-filders. If he plays against Hull i hope he plays the way he has been playing. Let him loose and he will be unstoppable.
