Theo Walcott, “Maybe if I keep performing like I have it will shut people up”

Arsenal midfielder Theo Walcott is finally making his comeback into Arsene Wenger’s side after a number of injuries but as one can imagine, it’s not easy to make an impact after so many injuries. Quite frustrated, the 20-year explained it is not fair for people to expect miracles from him immediately after making a comeback, adding how this only puts pressure on himself, which is no good.
The Englishman of course knows that with David Beckham ruled out of the World Cup finals, his chances of flying to South Africa will increase but as he explained, his job is to keep on improving, to help his club and also to silence his critics, just like Saturday. Against Hull, coming as a substitute, Walcott helped his team in penetrating the Hull defense, playing an important role in the final minutes of the game.
Speaking of his injuries and future, Walcott said:
I have had so many injuries this season, people don’t realise how hard it is to come back from setback after setback after setback. You can’t be at your best straight away and if you think you can, then you put more pressure on yourself. That’s what I had been doing this season.
The best thing is I do know what’s going on on the outside, but I don’t listen to it, I only listen to people around me. It’s doesn’t bother me whatsoever. Maybe if I keep performing like I have it will shut people up.
