[By our readers] Yet Another “How Arsenal Can Become Champions” Post
Written by Jeffrey on April 14, 2010 3:00
We have seen various sorts this season: dropping points at last minute, snatching points at the dead, losing comfortably home and away, and, rarely, pummeling teams and instilling the fear of God in them. At this point, it does not matter what we or other teams have done; it is right down to the wire, and we have to bulldoze through the five remaining stops—Tottenham (A), Wigan (A), Man City (H), Blackburn (A), and Fulham (H) – of the high road to championship dream.
In this piece, I aim to predict the final standings, with bias, of course. Since this is more or less a three horse race with Chelsea gaining ascendancy, I will only predict the standings for the first three places: Arsenal, Man Utd, and Chelsea. Before you go further, I would like to resound the theme song that has played all season long, “Anything can happen”. My friend, anything can happen.
Fixtures and Predicted Results
Chelsea: 1 – Bolton: 0
Tottenham: 1 – Arsenal: 2
Man City: 3 – Man Utd: 1
Tottenham: 2 – Chelsea: 1
Wigan: 0 – Arsenal: 3
Man Utd: 2 – Tottenham: 1
Arsenal: 2 – Man City: 1
Chelsea: 2 – Stoke City: 2
Blackburn: 1 – Arsenal: 3
Liverpool: 2 – Chelsea: 1
Sunderland: 0 – Man Utd: 2
Arsenal: 2 – Fulham: 0
Chelsea: 4 – Wigan: 1
Man Utd: 3 – Stoke City: 1
Final Standings (My Forecast)
Arsenal: 86
Man Utd: 82
Chelsea: 81
But Wait! This is just my prediction. In order to get a sense of other people’s predictions of the final standings, I decided to input my forecast into a pool of other fans’ predictions. This was done on premierleague.com and this is the average predicted standing:
Arsenal: 86
Chelsea: 85
Man Utd: 83
The average predicted standings look way more realistic than mine, but either way, I’ll take the championship. Without much more rambling, it is time for the lads to step it up and grind out every win. They must play every game as if it’s a final in order for us to have any chance of nipping away the trophy and tucking it away in our Arsenal of armory of trophies, which has been dominated by Emirate Cups in the recent years.
Fellow Gooners, keep the faith!
