At the age of 32 and 35 respectively, Arsenal defenders William Gallas and Sol Campbell fall under Arsene Wenger’s policy to be offered only one-year extension to their contract.
Campbell, who joined the Gunners during the January transfer window has been superb at the back, but only last week managed to play two games in a row and questions are still being asked on his fitness level.
Gallas, on the other hand, has been suffering with injuries for the last two months, ending his season after the Barcelona game after prematurely making his comeback to football, decision which left France coach Raymond Domenech furious ahead of this summer’s World Cup Finals.
When asked about the contracts of the two veterans on Friday, manager Arsene Wenger preferred not to reveal anything on what the future holds for them, explaining how he is yet to take a decision.
He said:
There is no news [on Campbell’s future. I have to sit down with him at some stage when the season is over. We will sit down together and have a good chat
[Gallas?] No, we have no new news yet. At the moment we are still talking. We have not reached any agreement yet.
