Theo Walcott’s reaction to World Cup axe as Carlos Vela and ten other Gunners are named for Finals

Theo Walcott

For some it came as a surprise, others were expecting it. Arsenal midfielder Theo Walcott will not be part of the English World Cup squad although the player was very calm in describing the axe.

Speaking after Fabio Capello announced the squad, the 21-year old explained that he is “very disappointed” but also added how he respects the decision of the Italian. Walcott wished the team the best of luck as he will now shift his focus back to Arsenal ahead of the 2010/2011 campaign.

Meanwhile, a total of eleven Arsenal players were called by their respective National sides to represent their countries in South Africa. Alex Song for Cameroon, Nicklas Bendtner for Denmark, Gael Clichy, Abou Diaby, William Gallas and Bacary Sagna for France, Emmanuel Eboue for the Ivory Coast, Carlos Vela for Mexico, Robin Van Persie for the Netherlands, Cesc Fabregas for Spain and Philippe Senderos for Switzerland.

In friendly Internationals, the Dutch striker has already showed he is at the top of his form despite only recently making his comeback from injury for the Gunners. Nicklas Bendtner is recovering from an injury but should feature for the Danes whilst it will be interesting to see how Cesc Fabregas reacts to all the speculation about his future.

Walcott shows the right mentality in the face of what must have been a devastating setback to his ambitions. Credit to his strength of character. The young man deserves all support and encouragement.

    • Davi says:

Well he certainly showed a bit of class. He should take this as a sign that his form needs to improve though. I actually think his missing the WC could be very good for him. This is the first time his quality has truly been questioned by someone who matters (its about time really imo) and he will see it as a real setback. Hopefully this will drive him to improve.

      • Alric says:

Cheers to Walcott for missing the World Cup. Now he can play his best season with Arsenal without any interruptions of the internationals and thus no more excuses. One more season to prove, or the jury will be out on him.

Im excited beyond comprehension to await the excuses from england when they get dumped out of the world cup, saying Walcott should have been there……hahhaahah now tat would be a lovely joke because they will NEVER win it in the 1st place :)

        • Davi says:

True, but if they do make that excuse (and many arsenal fans certainly will) it might just feed walcott’s ego rather than prove to him he just hasn’t been good enough.
It’s sort of inevitable as it would (as usual) take an absolute miracle for england to win the world cup, so they will at least question why theo was excluded later in the summer. It all just depends how strong the reaction in favour of him is and how he reacts to the whole issue.
I hope he sees it as a sign he needs to improve and works hard to do that.

    • VUVUZELA says:

walcott needs to work on his finishing – final ball & if he can learn to cross the ball {he’ll be lethal with the pace he’s got}. still very young so he can look forward to EURO 2012 & BRAZIL 2014.

In all honesty i think Walcott needs a loan deal in Holland to work on these abilities – talent isn’t always gonna work – he’ll need to step up to the plate in the next two seasons.

      that said:
this World Cup is what Vela needs – there’ll be no stopping him after this as he’ll have experience on the world stage.

you talked about arsenal players in world cup how about djouruo
am not seeing his name in your list

    • Gongo Man says:

      Osuna

Djourou is not going to SA. He is recovered from his injuries (only played last match of the season) and thus was considered not fit by Otmar Hitzfield; the Swis Coach. Gooners can look forward to a big preseason!

  • zeldaprimed says:

I am so sad that he was kicked out of the squad…(I am pretty sure I am not the only one that thinks this, I mean it’s WALCOTT)…but I am equally proud of how he has taken this…you guys should have seen all the mess Giovani Dos Santos’ Dad created when he found out Jonathan wasn’t going…and Walcott has done and proved more than any of the other wingers I believe…

    oh well…

  • Raila says:

How did silvestre miss france call up? Any1?

  • Kooksy says:

Was a wee but gutted Theo missed out, but to be far he will get another chance and I think Shaun is a better player at the moment.

Welll excited about the World Cup now, have a gander at this England World Cup possible Route Schedule thingy i’ve found, you can print it, its perfect.
