Philippe Senderos, “Here in Switzerland they expect us to play like Spain or Barcelona”

After a more than satisfactory 1-1 draw against Italy in last Saturday’s friendly match, the Swiss National side is getting ready for this summer’s World Cup Finals although according to Arsenal defender Philippe Senderos, pressure could be costly.
Speaking ahead of the finals, the 25-year old Arsenal defender explained that people are expecting Ottmar Hitzfeld’s side to play beautiful football just like the Spanish National side or Liga Champions Barcelona which can sometimes be wrong as it could badly affect the players.
The centre back was honest in admitting that Switzerland cannot be compared to the giants of European football as although many players in the regular team play outside the country in big teams, they still cannot be considered as strong as those favourite to lift the World Cup.
After the competition, the defender will focus on taking a decision on his future ahead of next season’s Premiership.
Out of contract with Arsenal, Senderos was never considered by manager Arsene Wenger last season and was loaned out to Everton where however he failed to make an impact.
The player said:
Here in Switzerland they expect us to play like Spain or Barcelona. There’s a lot of pressure behind us.
The fans expect a lot of the Swiss team and sometimes it can be a bit wrong.
We have to know who we are – we are a small country. We have players who play abroad in big teams, but we have to realize we have to play to our qualities.

I just dont know why Arsene never used him against the so called ’smaller’ teams in the likes of hull or or bolton. Yes he was literally tormented by Drogba and possibly lost all confidence he had but come on, he has been with the club for as long as Fab has been in there. Surely he’s not lost everything he knows as a footballer. Plus I think we have sometimes been to harsh on him in terms of questioning his temperament because I cant seem to remember a single day he has overreacted, threw tantrums or whatnots. He has quietly gone about his game and I actually think he put in some good performances when he played (minus the big games that is). After all, wasnt this guy offered the legendary NO.6 of the once Mr Arsenal Tony Adams? Some may say he also might have crumbled upon the pressure of having such a legendary number but I for one actually believe that, he should have been given a few more chances (atleast he is someone I would actually prefered to have that that bungling Silvestre) when Billy and Verm were out. Ok, im not saing I know better than Arsene, because certainly he sees him week in week out in training, but come on, I personally believes he loves the team and will give everything for the shirt when he plays. I just feel sad for his part on how he was managed/treated by Arsene and the club.
will senderos be leaving the club too now that his contract has expired??
