Gregory van der Wiel, “Of course it’s nice to read that Arsenal are interested”

Gregory van der Wiel

Ajax and Netherlands right back Gregory van der Wiel revealed he was happy to read about a possible interest from Arsenal although he will only think of his future after the World Cup Finals.

The 22-year old right back explained that he would be a good fit for the English Premiership and is hoping for Dutch colleague and friend Robin van Persie to speak with manager Arsene Wenger for an eventual move to North London.

The defender also explained how Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid are also interested but how he is at the moment full focused on Holland’s World Cup campaign which kicks off tomorrow afternoon against Denmark in what seems to be a very tricky group for the Orange as they are to also face Japan and Cameroon.

According to reports, the Gunners could lose French right-back Bacary Sagna who is linked with a possible move to Inter Milan so the Dutchman could be an option if such a scenario takes place.

Speaking on Sunday, Gregory van der Wiel said:

Of course it’s nice to read that Arsenal are interested. I consider myself a good fit for the Premier League.

Robin van Persie has told me many stories about the Premier League, Arsenal and Mr. [Arsene] Wenger. Maybe he can put in a good word for me.

I know that Barcelona and Real [Madrid] are interested, but now I am only thinking about doing well at the World Cup in South Africa.

I say sell sagna and scoop up van der wiel, Ajax is the other team I follow and hes a great player, and he is MUCH better going forward than sagna, his crossing from the right flank would be much better giving Chamakh LOTS to get his head onto.

  • Aminu Jos says:

Yes we need him and get us Metsu Oezil and Metersacka and Goucouf.

  • champion says:

well i agree with the two above. sell sagna now, as he will probably be a his most expensive. i think that sagna is pretty good going forward, so van der wiel must be amazing. we should buy him along with gourcuff, hazard, ozil, joe hart or igor akinfeev and a strong young cb and a 24-25 year old definate starter cb.

  • Davi says:

It will be interesting to see this guy play a bit.
Is everyone talking about ozil now because of the game today? He looked a lot more impressive than gourcuff did in his game.

  • selamu says:

I am no agreed with them. sagna is the best player in world.

  • Vic says:

Anyone notice arsenal-linked players are putting in crap shifts in the w.cup-gourcuff, green, schwarzer et al

  • madu says:

is gr8 2 read all ur opinions nw u want an establishd sagna oup 4 som 1 u r nt even sure wil do wel in england. Think abt it…

  • Jason says:

No way for us to spend too much on it…
    We need centrebacks…
Spending too much on players will eventually bring the club to bankruptcy…
We have the money, but doesn’t mean we should use it that way.
We just need to strengthen on positions that we need to…
Right back is fine… We should only consider this only after Centreback problems are solved.

Van Der Wiel is a good player…
He possess great crossing ability and he has great potential despite only 22year old…
But I still don’t see why we need him UNLESS Sagna is being offered to play in Inter…

And Sagna is a GOOD PLAYER…
Yes, he is… Hardworking and a player who commit to the game… =)
And too, the price tag must be reasonable!

  • Z KWT GUNNER says:

Sagna is one of the most sought after right backs in the world…. sell him???!!?!!?!

Some Arsenal fans are on crack!

  • theretardschampion says:

    @mr champion

yes u can all do that in ur football manager. Why not replace the whole team and put ur customized football manager team on the field and let u manage instead of wenger.
