Arsenal striker Robin van Persie has only scored one goal during the 2010 World Cup Finals and admitted how not scoring regularly is getting to him.
Speaking ahead of Friday’s game against Brasil, the 26-year old explained how not scoring is not easy for any striker as their objective is of course to go out there and find the back of the net as many times as possible. To be said is that the striker can still be happy with his tournament as he played for the team and turned provider in more than one occassion, helping the Orange to reach the Last 8.
van Persie also spoke about his reaction following the 81st minute substitution against Slovakia, saying how he just wanted to finish the game which saw the Slovakians pushing forward searching for the equaliser and hence leaving important gaps at the back for the Dutch strikers to exploit.
The Arsenal man will now focus on doing well against the South Americans, hoping to add more goals to his account and will also be glad to know that he was voted as the 4th best player for the Gunners by the fans despite missing half of the season.
Ahead of Brasil, van Persie said:
I am not scoring and that eats away at me – at every striker, I think. I’ve had a few small chances. I just want to score.
But one thing I learned in England is that you can miss chances or have a bad first touch, but as a striker there will always be another chance.
I wanted to finish the game. I thought they would take risks in the last 10 minutes and I wanted to exploit that. I could see spaces opening up and I wanted to use them, so I was a bit shocked when I had to go off.
