Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas can now consider himself as a World Cup champions after Spain’s narrow win over Holland in Johannesburg.
The 23-year came on as a substitute but his impact on the game was immediate after timing a number of runs to perfection and of course providing the assist to Andres Iniesta’ winning goal. Speaking on the win, the midfielder said how it is a historic moment for the country adding how he dedicates the win to his whole family.
Fabregas, who is still heavily linked to a return to Spain with Barcelona, also said how not playing was not easy to digest but having played an important role in Sunday’s win, it was worth the wait.
The Arsenal man concluded by showing his gratitude to all the fans who supported the Spanish national side, saying how their next objective is to win the European Championships for a second consecutive time, tournament which will be held in Poland and Ukraine in the year 2012.
After the World Cup win, Fabregas is quoted as saying by AS:
It is an historic moment which we do not know if it will ever be repeated.
I dedicate the win to my whole family. I was a bit down because I had not played much and did not want it to be like that, but in the end it was worth it.
Thank you to the fans, they are the best. We have not noticed all of our supporters that much, but we know from family and friends. I hope that in two years we have another joy.
