Gael Clichy, “We cannot hide behind anything, the age or the experience”
Arsenal left-back Gael Clichy believes it’s time for Arsenal to stop hiding behind excuses and show what they are really capable of.
Speaking before yesterday’s 4-0 win against SC Neusiedl 1919, the Frenchman explained how the Gunners always end the season saying how they are not far behind but it’s still a season ended with nothing to show for. The 25-year old also said how it’s now time to show the Arsenal fans that the players believe they can go on and win something.
The Gunners had no trouble in winning their last pre-season friendly in Austria on Tuesday and according to Clichy, this year could be the one.
He concluded by echoing what the likes of Robin van Persie and Cesc Fabregas said before him and that’s how Arsenal can no longer hide behind the fact that they are young or inexperienced, they just need to step it up and win.
Clichy said:
It is always at the end of season that we are not that far [behind] and Arsenal had a good season but we didn’t win anything.
We have to ask ourselves the right questions: do we want to be a good team or to win trophies? To win trophies we have to be the best and that is what we are trying to do from now on. We want to show the fans that we believe in ourselves.
I remember a few years ago saying it was a time for Arsenal to win and still nothing happened.
I really hope this year can be a good one and now we cannot hide behind anything – the age or the experience. We have everything to do it – so let’s do it.

if we lose so many players for injuries there’s no chance for arsenal but if we look from the other side tottenham and liverpool don’t have so strong team to win EPL so there are 4 clubs (chelsea arsenal and both manchesters) who can wind 2010/11 EPL!
united have a team that isn’t so good anymore and vd saar is gettin older, ferdinand and vidić make many mistakes and if rooney is off form then they can’t win
city is buying good players but still they don’t have a star like RVP, drogba, rooney, lampard, fabregas…
chelsea have the best players in england but they are old and i don’t expect lampard drogba malouda and anelka to be as good as last season so that would be a PLUS for others
and finally there’s arsenal who’s team is getting better and better every year but injuries always stop them! and if there isn’t going to be so many injuries and if wenger buys another (and good) CB arsenal can win this season! we could be at least second last season but the information that fabregas and van persie(our best players) last time played together in november stopped us! the answer to a question why arsenal didn’t win any trophy for 5 years, is simple because of emirates stadium – wenger didn’t have money to buy big players so he sold them!

they’v'e beaten us twice in the league, knocked us out of the champions league and literally out smart us…
you say chelsea are getting older and older but they beat us the season 08-09 at the emirates 4-1 and we beat them at stamford bridge 2-1, last season we lost 3-0 and 2-0, knocked us out of the fa cup 2-1, thats TEN goals conceded and 2 SCORED! WTF!!
how can you seriously say theyre getting older and please dont let me start with man city, they battered us away twice 3-0 and 4-2, SEVEN goals conceded in 2 games and arsene comes out with we need to be stabled at the back WTF! blame him teach the bloody team to defend as a unit when we aint got the ball to track back and work for it then play our game!

In Arsene we trust by booty dude…Arsene doesnt care about you Paris..he just wants you to spend money on your beloved team..Look..at the begining of the summer he and the board said they had the funds to spend, then he said that before the worldcup ended he would sign 2-3 players, right now Arsenal look weaker than last year. I’ve loved Arsenal since 1998, in 12 years I’ve never felt so dissapointed in our manager and even though Im looking forward to this season, Im not so confident on this Arsenal team, 3 centerbacks for a 50+ game season oh 4 I guess with Nordveit…Almunia at goal….IDK I hope and pray Arsenal have a great year. i believe and know that wenger will buy a new CB and why didn’t he do that before? the main reason is that barcelona won’t leave him alone because of fabregas and we all know that wenger thinks 10 times before he makes a move for a player which always turns out to be one of the best buys of the season! he never makes a mistake in transfer market!
arsenal has very good squad but they should buy a CB (mertesacker is my favourite) and if wenger plans to have almunia in goal then he should buy a goalkeeper too (akinfeev, lloris, neuer, handanovič(because i’m from slovenia) are my favourite) almunia must not be the first choice it should be new goalkeeper or szczesny or mannone! and sell fabianski!

We are starting to sounds like the Liverfools. Lets just hope we dont up becoming one. I actually believe we will make atleast another 2 signings atleast, though I dont think its enough. What irritates me the most is why does he have to wait till the last hour to do so. Then he talks about ‘giving them time to adapt’. Bloody hell then wats the pre-season for if not for adaptation?

Scott, obviously you’re ignorant regarding the Arsenal standard, this team is not good enough to challenge for anything, meaning they’re not good enough. In order to be considered good enough you have to at least be a credible title challenger, which we are not.
