[Rate The Rumour] Arsenal Transfer Rumours, 28/07 – Sebastian Giovinco and Miguel Veloso

Submitted by James on July 29, 2010 – 4:00 19 Comments
Starting the last week of April and going through the summer, The Gunning Hawk will bring you one article of the most creative and sensational of Arsenal transfer rumours. Of course, please understand that most of them – if not all of them – are “wrong”, to use the same word used by Arsene Wenger. But, it will interesting to discuss what it would be if one or more transfers do indeed go through.

July 28

To change a little from the defensive department, we have two midfielders linked with a possible move to Arsenal today, with one of them showing interest in the move.

According to Goal.com, the agent of Juventus midfielder Sebastian Giovinco revealed how his client would not say no if the Gunners are to make an offer. The Italian has been linked with Arsenal for more than a year now and according to his agent, clubs in Italy and Spain are also showing interest in the 23-year old.

Elsewhere, Genoa-based website Pianeta Genoa believes the club is facing competition from Arsenal to sign Sporting Lisbon’s Miguel Veloso. The article also says how the Gunners are ready to offer €13m for the 24-year old defensive midfielder.

And finally, yesterday’s result. Less than 1,000 on a quiet day which saw Mamadou Sakho getting 374 positive votes and young striker Cedric Bakambu getting 131.

I honestly think we should be looking at Defenders and Goal-keepers, we have an amazing attacking line up. there’s no point wasting money……. unless its a gorcuff, ozil-esqe person.

i think (i’m not the manager), as a fan and by my personal knolege (which isn’t much :D ) is we should get….. swatzer (sorry forgot how to spell name) subtioc/ tasci/ hangeland, Eden Hazard (defently)

i know im contradicting myself about not getting attacking players, and this player is an attacker, i know everyone wants experience, but the golie and defender could have it but hazard WILL (not might) become a star its better to get him now. he said he likes Arsenal and Real madrid….. Madrid don’t need anymore mids (namely inexperienced) but arsenal love seeing potential……

We are very much in need of a defensive midfielder cover for Alex Song. If you think about it, who will play for him when he gets a hammy and is out for 2 weeks. I don’t know very much about Veloso but it wouldn’t be the worse thing getting another CDM.

I most likely think the Gionvinco stuff will only intensify when Arshavin goes which is probably within 2 years.

As for Gourcuff, I think he’s overrated. He’s not very fast, he’s not the MOST skilled player ever, he’s a great catalyst but we have Fabregas and Nasri whom I think both are better and certaintly more acquainted with Arsenal school of thought.

Obviously Ozil would help us this year but its not going to happen. Our best chance of getting him would be on free next year if Fab jumps ship to Spain. In which I believe he would play outside midfielder and we’d slot Nasri in Fabregas’ position.

Schwarzer seems like a decent fix if Mannone and Shezzy aren’t ready. However, I wouldn’t be suprised if our “goalkeeper crisis” can easily be fixed by going with our 2 promising young guns. Put in an extablished role model who can really help them both out and we can spend the money on some CBs.

Out of Subotic/Tasci/Hangeland, I definitly like Tasci the best. Hangeland is not leaving Fulham so those talks should no longer exist. Subotic is goofy looking and I don’t see how he will knock Wayne Rooney off the ball. Tasci would be a great addition but it doesnt seem he’s extrememly willing to make a transfer request. I think it’s widely accepted that Eden Hazard will one day play for Arsenal, “its in his DNA” obviously. I don’t think that will happen for awhile though, he’s only 18 years old. Even if we do buy him, he’ll most likely go straight back on loan to Lille, as he should.

I personally think Arsenal’s solution is to trust their young stars. An attacking midfield corps of Fabregas, Nasri, and Wilshere would seem to be very hard to defend. In my oppinion, Wilshere is an English version of Iniesta (less ballskills, more strength) and would work great with our English version of Xavi in Fabregas (again, less twinkle-toed and more grit). Nasri can be played almost anywhere across the midfield and forward line except maybe in CF (RVPs got that on lockdown) and should get a ton of starts. Our midfield should be set for the next 10 years with Aaron Ramsey ready to fill into CM right now (assuming full recovery). I’m not sold on Frimpong yet, lets watch the Emirates cup and I will see if he is still looking like speedy gonzales out there.

We need a defender. We can get away without a goalie I think if these kids are really ready to go.

I’ll be satisfied with Mertersacker even though their are question marks about his ability to play in the EPL. Tasci would be great. Jagielka would be a good body to put in but I believe if we get Jagielka then Koschielny must be the guy. I like the Koschielny signing already, I think he’ll settle down very nicely next to Vermaelen. We still need a pure defensive CB which Kos and Verm are not. In my oppinion, it’s Mertersacker and thats probably where all the recent talks are coming from.

      • yeh, i just feel hazard should be bought right now, and loaned back to lille

        • C says:

I agree. Hazard will b on of the best players in the world and he has said he wants to move to either arsenal or real Madrid. Giovinco is going to b a star and let’s face it he is or will b a better player than players like denilso Walcott eboue and vela. The only midfielders we have that will b better than him over their careers is cesc and nasri. Mayb wilshere and Ramsey. Nasri will b one of, if not the best midfielders in the epl within the nxt 2 years..we should wait till man city and real Madrid have a clearance and sign given or hart, de Jong or gago and Micah richards who cam b bak up for sagna and centre back

  • George says:

Giovinco is a bloody midget !

  • Ruelando says:

All i am saying defender and keeper. Frimpong will be good, Nordveit will be a good cover at right back or in DM. but we need a monster at the back and a keeper which will put confidence in the defense line. I think of all the teams we have the most dangerous attacking force. Only rivaled
by Barca and Madrid. I now we will do well once we sort out the keeper and defender issue.

  • sheady says:

I doubt these rumours will happpen, Nuff said.

We dont need any more midfileders, what we neeed is a 1 of 2 defenders and a goalkeeper.
With all these people saying that we need to have a defensve midfileder cover for Alex song, we dont need one, we have the young Frimpong who is a tank. and If song is out injured he normally changes his formations and tactics.

  • zed says:

We dont need Giovinco we have enough players who can play in that position (Fab, Nasri, Ramsey, Wilshere, Rosicky). But Veloso would be interesting, He provides cover for Song and hes got one hell of a left foot and allows for denilson to be sold (actually any DM signing would mean that denilson will leave). Add Mertesacker/Tasci and a reliable goalkeeper, Im hoping for Shay Given, and were set to be title contenders for 6-8 years.

  • Jason says:

Get someone who can give us strong figure at the back. Mertesacker has shown some physical quality. Since we are still short at the back, so why not?

Veloso is strong but he is not yet a regular starter in World Cup Squad. Let see how we can work on it. He has been linked to Arsenal since a few seasons before this. But doubt that he will join as Song seems to have secure his position as the regular CDM.

  • NASRI says:

hi WINGER bring Sebastian he can play as stoker 2 AND HE WILL FIT YOUNG GUNNERS.

  • Fab says:

The rumours only can be true if and only if giovinco doubles his size and become a defender(or Arsene wants to trade Thomas).

  • GETA says:

now, miguel veloso is perfect in games that song is out and his strong figure will give stability to the midfield and per mertesacker would really be the best investment of this coming season given that his posture(tony adams) will be vital against big and physical teams. my thoughts are,

    per mertesacker
    miguel veloso
    stekelenburg.

we get those guys, we win the treble.

  • naeem says:

i m tired of these rumour, looks like we gona buy a new player daily.will not surprise if dnot buy any1.its arsene afterall!!!

  • DemzDimmyDemz says:

I like both of them! tru say giovinco reminds me of ashavin but rosicky is going to lack fitness and might be on the treatment table. this kid is wonderful i saw him and he held juventus on his back.

and everyone wants veloso.. i can see him being a partner with song or frimpong or even diaby he just has that special touch reminds me of petit. lets hope we get our goal keeper and defenders and defensive mid and another playmaker/goal scorer and we will be up fighting for the title!

  • Fair Zim says:

We need a good golie, one more central defender and one central midfielder as cover for song. In attack we are the best. Go Gunners! Our time to shine is now

  • jake says:

eden hazard, micah richards or per mertasacker, joe hart or akinfeev IN

injury prone rosicky OUT (love him as a playe but 64 appearances since he joined is pretty shocking)

ps. eden hazard is a must best talent around

  • paris86 says:

akinfeev and mertesacker/richards would salve our problem! maybe CDM would be good too but it’s not needed that much because we have frimpong and eastmond!
