Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger provided his first injury update ahead of this Sunday’s game against Liverpool, at Anfield.
Speaking to Arsenal TV Online on Thursday afternoon, the Frenchman confirmed that Alex Song will miss the game due to a calf problem as he hopes to have Brasilian midfielder Denilson available with the 22-year’s fitness to be assessed on Friday and again on Saturday. Also in midfield, Frenchman Abou Diaby is back in training after missing pre-season and could feature for the Gunners.
Wenger also spoke of key players like Andrey Arshavin, Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie. The Russian will be available to do some damage in his favourite stadium but late fitness tests will be carried out to determine whether the two World Cup Finalist will be able to feature in the game.
It is still unclear who will be Arsenal’s goalkeeper on Sunday, with reports suggesting that Lukasz Fabianski will get the nod despite failing to impress in pre-season.
On injuries, Wenger said:
Alex Song has a calf problem and will be short. Denilson will have a test on Friday or Saturday on an abdominal problem. Diaby has a calf problem but he is back in full training. He might be available and Andrey Arshavin is alright.
But I still have to make a decision about whether I will include Van Persie and Fabregas in the squad.
