It is not official yet but it would be very surprising if Sevilla’s defender Sebastien Squillaci does not become Arsene Wenger’s third signing of the summer transfer window.
The 30-year old defender – who was quoted as saying how turning down an offer from Arsenal is almost impossible – was described as a very strong defender who wins every duel by ex-team mate Didier Zokora. A former Tottenham Hotspur player, the Ivory Coast International was in fact full of praise for the Gunners’ new signing.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, the 29-year old added how the Frenchman will have no problem in getting used to Arsenal’s style of football as he is good on the ball.
Last week, Spanish club Sevilla published a statement on their official website in which they confirmed an offer from Arsenal was made for the player. The deal is expected to be officialised this week although the player will probably not be available for this Saturday’s game at Ewood Park against Blackburn.
On the Frenchman, Zokora said:
He is a very strong defender, he wins every duel. He is a very good defender because he plays for the French national side.
I think if he plays for Arsenal he will play easy because Arsenal play very easy football.
For him, I think it is a very good option.
He plays very simple but he wins every duel, he is a very strong defender.
