As he always does in his pre-match press conference, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger provided an update on the injured players ahead of this weekend’s game against Blackburn.
When asked about Nicklas Bendtner, the Frenchman declared the Dane is still a month away from making his return to full fitness, in a way confirming Morten Olsen’s worry who said the player could be out until October. Wenger also said how midfielder Samir Nasri is recovering well and will probably be back before the striker.
In the defensive department, the Gunners welcome back Laurent Koscielny who returns after sitting Blackpool’s win through suspension but will again be without Swiss International Johan Djourou who is fit to be in the squad but unlikely to feature at Ewood Park.
Wenger concluded by giving the positive news that Brasilian midfielder Denilson is finally back and available for Saturday’s game and he will be joined by World Cup Finalists Robin van Persie and Cesc Fabregas who are finally fit to start. New signing Sébastien Squillaci will not be in the squad.
Ahead of Blackburn, Wenger said:
[Bendtner is] three to four weeks. Nasri will have a battle [to be back first]. He could be in front of Bendtner even because he is recovering very quickly.
Djourou is fit to be in the squad but he is not completely there yet. Cesc and Van Persie are back and available normally [for Blackburn].
We have Denilson back in the squad.
Of course Nasri, Bendtner and Ramsey are still injured but everyone else is available.
Koscielny is back from suspension and he will be involved. The situation of the squad on the health front is quite good.
