Mark Hughes: Schwarzer made it clear he wants Arsenal move

Arsenal’s start to the season has been a very good one yet many are still asking whether a new goalkeeper will sign or not.
With Manuel Almunia defending the Gunners goal for the first three games of the season, rumours keep on reporting how a move for Fulham’s Mark Schwarzer or Manchester City’s Shay Given is still on. And, according to Fulham manager Mark Hughes, the 37-year old Australian has made it clear that he indeed wants to leave the club to join Arsenal.
The Cottagers eased past Port Vale in the Carling Cup and could only manage a draw against Blackpool on Saturday and in both games it was David Adam Stockdale the number one in Mark Hughes squad, who explained how Shay Given will probably be the club’s new goalkeeper if Schwarzer leaves the club.
Hughes did however conclude by again saying that if they fail to land the Irishman or any other quality goalkeeper, then the Australian will have to accept that his future will be at Fulham for at least one more season.
The manager said:
Mark Schwarzer has made it clear that he would like to go to Arsenal so we are trying to look at other options.
I’m always interested in quality players and Shay Given is a quality player. Make of that what you will.
But I have said that if we can’t get anyone else in, Schwarzer will have to stay.
