Arsenal’s win away at Blackburn will surely go down as one of the most important of the season, a pitch where the Gunners are usually expected not to get away with all three points.
Speaking to Arsenal TV Online, defender Laurent Koscielny revealed he was told this, that it was a game Arsenal could have lost and how leaving Ewood Park will all three points was a massive morale boost although according to the centre back the performance was not as brilliant as the first game against Liverpool where the Gunners produced very good football.
The 24-year was at fault for the goal Arsenal conceded as he explained how he could have indeed won the ball although the red card against Liverpool was maybe still on his mind, reason why he opted not to challenge El Hadji Diouf.
Arsenal’s next game is this weekend at home against Bolton Wanderers where manager Arsene Wenger will have a decision to make on who to start with at the back after new signing Sébastien Squillaci played for the reserves yesterday and is ready for the regular side.
On Blackburn, Koscielny said:
I did OK. It was a special game, a proper English game with a lot of aerial balls, free kicks, lots of corners as well as balls on the floor. It’s always hard to play against teams like that but we showed our quality, it was a decent performance.
I was indeed told that this was a game that Arsenal could have lost so it was good to win the game. It wasn’t a brilliant performance like we produced at Liverpool where we played lots of very good football, this was more a case of matching Blackburn, keeping it tight and compact, attacking and defending as a team.
I think I could have got the ball when they scored and I think maybe I still had the red card against Liverpool on my mind. I didn’t start the game too well but I learn from games like this and looking back, I don’t think the performance was too bad.
