Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was delighted to see his team ease past a determined Bolton side as the Gunners get ready to start their Champions League campaign.
Speaking after the 4-1 win over Owen Coyle’s side, the Frenchman explained how stability in the defensive department is crucial if the Gunners are to aim for the English Premier League title. Last summer Wenger declared how it is almost impossible to win the title if you concede 40 or more goals so one of this season’s challenges is to concede as few goals as possible.
The Gunners impressed in their first four games of the season, especially in their last two games in which they produced two very good wins against very tricky opponents.
Wenger is happy with the defensive department so far although fully aware how Bolton’s goal could have been easily avoided. Arsenal will play Braga in tomorrow’s Champions League game with midfielder Samir Nasri fully recovered after knee surgery.
After Bolton, Wenger said:
The only thing you can say is to win the League we need to be stable at the back. That’s of course the challenge we have.
I’m confident because we have come out of two games against Blackburn and Bolton with six points.
You see Blackburn drew at Manchester City, they are a good side and today we won again against a good side.
Defensively we did well, even though we made a mistake on the goal. The team is improving at the moment.
