Arsene Wenger’s explanation to yesterday’s shock defeat at the Emirates

It is not easy to understand what went wrong yesterday afternoon at the Emirates but for sure is that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will be under heavy pressure after a very poor performance from his squad.

Speaking after the match, the Frenchman tried to explain the reason behind such a shocking performance starting by saying how both offensively and defensively his players simply were not good enough. Wenger added how they failed even in the most basic tasks such as passing the ball or trying to win it back as at the end of the day they took what they deserved: zero points.

Even after such a negative performance, Wenger still managed to find some positive as he believes his squad fought until the very end to recover from a three-goal deficit but was not enough.

The Frenchman admitted how he will now meet with his players to discuss the game and understand what went wrong hoping for a quick recovery ahead of away games against Partizan in the Champions League and Chelsea in the English Premier League.

After West Brom, Wenger said:

We made it more difficult because we were not at our usual level. Not defensively, not offensively.

Overall everything was difficult for us today – passing the ball, winning the ball back, winning the one against ones – and we got what we deserved which was zero points. We didn’t deserve more.

The positive is that we did fight until the last minute but it was just not good enough at that level to get three points

Overall it was a poor team performance and we have to analyse why and make sure we respond well because we have had good performances since the start of the season. It is the first real bad performance and it is unexplainable how bad the whole thing looked for the whole game.
